EaganMatrix Overlays - Sneak Peek with Electra One MKII Controller

A short description of the upcoming EaganMatrix Overlay support (previously named Specialty Synths) that will be part of the next Major EaganMatrix firmware release. The content here is very similar to what Ed Eagan presented at the recent ContinuuCon 2024, but here implemented using an Electra One controller instead of a MAXMSP program. The idea is that the interface is a simple a Midi CC control scheme (that does not require bidirectional communication), the user interface for which can be implemented in numerous ways, now even as a plugin. Note this video is not intended to be an instructional presentation on exactly how to create the interface. More detailed videos will come once the new firmware is released.

Many thanks, This appears to make it much easier to design synthesis to us that generally just play the presets as programming is a long learning curve. Will you be making your presets available on the Electra One Forum? Many thanks

Yes. I'll be making them available there with the EaganMatrix presets that go with them placed on our EaganMatrix Patchstorage site.

This sounds fantastic and will open the EaganMatrix to a whole new audience and possibilities. Two questions, is it already possible to try out the new firmware on the EaganMatrix Eurorack module? And second is the Electra One MK2 worth purchasing especially in preparation for the new EaganMatrix firmware when it is release?

No. The new firmware is not out yet unless you have an 8x continuum that requires a version later than 10.09 but even in that case there are still things to work out so better to wait until this is formally released. But when released it will run on all EaganMatrix devices that are 2X DSP or more (that includes EMM and ContinuuMini). The Electra One can still be used with the current 10.09 to have all macros and other parameters available on one screen, but there are something perhaps a BeatStep does better right now (Electra does not have push button operation for example - that has to be programmed). So If you have a controller you are using now with EMM, you don't really need an Electra One.

Please make the save patch or save user preset user friendly. That is pain in the ahlala! You know, like save as or save button.

Sorry. I have nothing to do with deciding editor features. Please raise a Haken Audio ticket if you want to propose a new feature as a new editor is in the works (assuming you are talking about the Haken Editor).

The point is no one has to use that once the new apps are created that will have knobs and sliders, etc.

@@eaganmatrixprogramming that's great! Maybe show this more clearly 😀 I already own an Osmose - can I use my ElectraOne with Osmose then? Or do I need a computer running this stuff here?

@@microfx The new firmware necessary for this isn't generally available yet. When it comes out you will be able to use the Electra One (or another sufficiently flexible midi controller) to control an overlay preset loaded onto the Osmose. You still need a computer and the Haken Editor to create an Overlay. I don't know if it will ship with any overlays out of the box, but we'll see.

@@microfx You can certainly use it with the current 10.09 Midi interface. I just have to confirm the host option works with Osmose so you can connect without a USB Midi Host.
