  Just flip the blade around so the unused side engages. When it's dull, you can sharpen both sides at the same time you take 'em off. I didn't see any jackstands under that mower you were UNDER!

  I think because the actual angle is not very narrow ? so it's not sharp like a knife with a very tapered blade, it's a-bit-less-than-flat but with a well-defined edge. That would make the resulting edge a lot stronger than a fine taper, and given what flail mowers go through, strength is very important !

  I wouldnt rejet it from the Honda factory unless you modify intake or exhaust. Older carbs id run through a ultrasonic cleaner to bring it back to oem. vs jetting it.

  Having owned dozens of modified dirt bikes and quads, the minor change from a #38 to 40 is a small change, not worthy of any other mods. The #38 jet was clean. The#40 made all the difference in the world. Unfortunately, to meet emmisions, the factory had to set up the quad super lean.

  Excuse the late reply. Good question! The high temp, 1300 degrees f., basically vaporizes the wax and must be done in a ventilated setting, as in a open shop.

  Yes, but with pipe of the same diameter, templates and be commonly bought for smaller diameter pipe, if so desired... The above process is excellent for pipe coneections of different sizes! Dave

  OK, love the video and the technique, and obviously it works. But it looks to me, for the layout of the 16 segments on the long line, at 4:26, you measured not arcs, but chords which would define an inscribed polygon, which would have a shorter circumference than the circle you are working with. And yet the cut out template fits the pipe, and I can’t see why. I don’t think the 1/32 inch gap in the conclusion explains anything. Dave? Anyone?

  Pressure pot will compress the gas bubble down enough to do the same thing as a vacuum chamber. I have done the lost wax process for bronze sculptures. This might be fun to do as i now enough lapidary arts.

  Sir, i see this is five years ago, i have a question . I have to do a similar 2 foot high stem wall for an addition. This is the only stem wall footer combo ive seen .so, you guys formed slightly below grade and let the bottom partially fill trench. You poured bottom to base of forms first . Did you have a cold joint or did you come behind and make it into one?????

  Sorry for the late reply- As soon as the footing is poured to the bottom of the formed stem wall, you can generally go back to the starting point of the pour and top off the stem, as the concrete has had several minutes to stiffen up enough to support the wet mud in the stem forms. Dave

  Great advice on the flail mower but even better advice to our young Americans about becoming a certified welder!!! Comment on your PTO drive shaft - never seen the slip clutch end of the drive shaft mounted at the tractor side, but rather always at the implement side?? Is this how you've always done it? As you know "Y" blades are reversible and they wear in a manner that shouldn't really require much sharpening if you reverse them. Sharpening them to too fine and edge will only result in faster wear. You might also want to consider going to Double "Y" blades when you need a new set. Was the tilt function included with the hydraulic slide function or was it a separate option as well? Thanks for your video and would love to get an update now that it's been a year since you posted this video as I am considering purchasing the Woodmaxx FM96H model once they are back in stock. Thank you Dave.

  Used it 2 seasons now- still going strong. Use a hydralic cylinder on the 3 point hitch for nearly all the implements run back there. I installed the PTO backwards originally and haven't bothered changing it- actually is easy to get to the zerks for lubing... I was dissapointed in the Y blades, dulled quickly and more time consuming to sharpen, as required unbolting, sharpening and reinstalling. The hammer blades kick butt! Thanks! Dave

  Hi, I just bought an old house built in 1977 in downtown Albuquerque NM. It has a solid stem wall (not block) and there is a crack all the way around the perimeter where the slab meets the stem wall. The crack varies from about 1/4” to maybe 1/2” at most in some areas. I want to fill this because the house had a cockroach infestation and I noticed that they get in in some spots under the base wall 2x4s (because there is no glue or sealant on the stem wall which is aggregate concrete and then they come in and can live / nest and breed in the crack between the slab and stem wall. I could use some rubber like compound like Sikaflex or self-leveling cement to fill the entire void. The cement being very fluid would also likely help fill in gaps under the 2x4 wall base. I just don’t know if one option is more appropriate than the other. Any help is appreciated.

  Sounds like the slab was poured after the stemwall and probably lacked the rebar to tie the 2 together... However you seal/bond the slab and stemwall together now, you may have to use a power washer or something like that to clean the surfaces for bonding. I like the 2 part epoxy in tubes (like Simpson) for bonding in situations like that. Sikaflex will seal, but won't bond the 2 together and keep them from moving as they've done. Let us know what you do and how it worked! Dave

  @@daveosland3199 I need to do the entire perimeter of the house, which currently is 1400sf and basically a 25ft x 60ft rectangle, I assumed that filling the crack with self leveling cement will be cheaper than epoxy but after thinking about it further, I think epoxy or a polyurethane caulk would be adequate. The house was built in 1977 so I don’t think it will move or settle any more than it has. It has one minor slab crack about 1/3 the length of the house, across the 25ft length with no major unleveling on either side. I mainly want to seal the crack to prevent bug infestations as we have roaches here. So after sealing, I’m also using spray foam at the base of the walls as all drywall is set about 1/2” off the floor. The house is also in Albuquerque NM and is situated almost exactly east to west and we can get up to 105F in August and sometimes in the teens in winter so thermal expansion from one side to the other needs to be considered as the 60ft long north side of the house will always be cooler than the south side. So for example in winter, the north side could be 30F, while the sun heats the south side to 60F or higher. Maybe that’s why it’s not all tied together…to allow for some planned expansion and contraction.

  Dave - Awesome demonstration of how to form and pour. I am a DIYer currently building a "little house" 10'X12" for a backyard office. I am setting forms as you did in this video with a foundation in a trench and the stem wall formed over the trench. Seeing your details helps me understand that you can never reinforce and support the forms too much (I have done that on all of my previous concrete and steel projects because I am old school) and that I am going in the correct direction. Thank you. I understand that you pour the footer and then have to wait a while before pouring the stem wall. How long do you need to wait between pouring the footer and then pouring the stem? And when you pour the stem, do you vibrate the stem? You mentioned "wetting the concrete" before you pump the stem wall. Could you explain how the process of wetting the concrete is done? I imagine that water would be added to the concrete in the delivery truck. Is it a second delivery with a different slump? Or is the wetting done in the original truck? I am only pouring about 6 yards (foundation and stem wall) so will only have one delivery.

  Sorry for the late reply. You maybe already done. Usually the stem is poured about 30 minutes after the footings. Absolutely vibrate, tap the forms with a hammer or even plunge a 1x2" up and down into the stem wall to help the concrete settle and fill voids. The concrete is wet up just enough to help it flow into the stem wall, by the driver while on the truck. Dave
