    Say if you took the carry handle off and did a lpvo or scope would that work with the front sight? Or is that preference?

  • @404tactical7

    @The_Great_White thanks for the question. You can add an LPVO just need to use the correct mount height for that optic. There is no interference. I purchased a Viper PST Gen ll 1-6 for the AR15A4 as the replacement for the carry handle. Then I did a clone mod for this rifle for an M16A4 and changed it out for an ACOG.

    No worries, brother, we Boomers carried musket length bullet-launchers and appreciate them. Extra short barrels remind me of the klowns that roll their windows down at red lights and vape out clouds of smoke. What a waste of expensive powder/power! 😝

    I really enjoy my M-16A4 clone on the target range and it performs great. But when I go hunting my M-16E1 clone is a lot more practical and comfortable. I've been Deer hunting with the AR-15 since 1990 and it always performs great with M193 screaming out of a 20" barrel. This fall I will be deer hunting with my GAU-5/A/A version of the XM-177E2 with 11½" barrel with pinned and welded 4½" flash hider and M193 or 50gr Ballistic Tips. We will see how it goes.

    It moved into the 308 category with weight increase. The pencil barrel was much maligned at the time of going from 308 to 233. Soldiers would lay them on the jeep seats and sit across them in later contempt. But could not overcome mountains of 556. Thus the 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, 6mm, and Valkyrie are options especially in semi automatic. The 3D printers a younger option. The AR-10 in Creed or every popular now.

    @DutchK75-that is interesting. I did some research on the M16A5 concept guns this Spring. According to what was published in Military Defense magazine, they never entered service with the Marines, and they went to the M4 carbine instead at the last minute. There are tons of photos and some possible BS on reddit about that rifle, but from what I have seen published, these are just a 20" barrel uppers with an M4 type collapsible stock. I was thinking I saw one on guns.com or Sportsman warehouse a while back advertised as an M16A5 but stating semi-automatic. Appreciate the feedback and comments. Thanks

    Let me clear this up. There are no M16A5s in service, and I say that not because there aren't collapsing stock M16A4s. I say that because M16A5 was a real program before 2012, and it had several companies create guns for it. It did not go far, but the H6 buffer kit was developed (carbine buffer for an M16A4 upper). These buffer kits entered service in 2012, about 1,200 for the entire military. Around 2020, USMC started using these specifically in boot camp due to female recruits and the ability to adjust stock length for different heights and eye relief. This is particularly important for training new shooters with good fundamentals. I went to boot in January 2021. For drill, I was issued a regular FN M16A4. Then, right before Grass Week, we swapped rifles and I got FN M16A4 10617695, which had an ACOG, black vickers sling, H6 buffer, carbine buffer tube, and carbine stock. I kept this rifle for the rest of boot and learned to shoot with it. I absolutely love collapsing stock M16A4s. To be clear, these rifles are all normal M16A4s that had the rifle tube taken off and a regular carbine tube put on, and then an H6 buffer (6 tungsten weights) used. Around 8,000 of these kits are currently in service, the majority in USMC. Roughly 7,000 were purchased 2021-present, with the previous decade only seeing 1,200 purchased all in 2012. I got this data by looking up the NSN and seeing charts for its demand and contracts for it. There are ZERO VLTOR A5 tubes on USMC M16A4s. Every collapsing stock A4 you see has a regular M4 tube and an H6 buffer. Sometimes H6 buffers show up on gunbroker. I purchased two for $90.

    Furthermore, before they became the standard boot camp rifle of USMC in 2021-present, they were used in significant numbers by USMC tankers before the Abrams were given to the Army.

    The mag pouches on our rifles ensured that no matter what we were doing, we always had extra ammo with our rifle if something happened. Remember, when we were deploying to little COPs or patrol bases out in the middle of nowhere, you had to do all the daily life things there on these tiny bases, like workout, go take a poop, go shower, do laundry, etc and still be faced with the possibility of taking contact at any moment. If you're going to take a poop in a slit trench on the edge of your COP all you're gonna take from your hooch is the shower shoes on your feet, a roll of shit tickets, and your weapon. If shit pops off while you're pinching one off, you wanna be able to fight with what you've got on your rifle without having to grab anything else. Same concept applies to keeping a tourniquet on your weapon. Yeah, you've got extra mags and a bleeder kit on your vest, but you aren't always wearing or within arms reach of your vest. But you damn well better always be within arms reach of your weapon.

    Here's the info I sent out to 110 sass in regards to the colt A4 I had with kac markings. Figured this story was fitting for this build type. when the A4s started getting the kAC rails colt was sending rifles to kac that didn't have any markings on them above the trigger pins that manufacturers put on them. KAC put Titusville fl on that area before final shipment. My m16a4 I was issued in 2003 had those markings. Fast forward 10 yrs I could never figure out why that was. I was in the hospital with a Marine and we always talked weapons. One time we were discussing Colt vs FN m16/ m4 rifles and he stated he had a KAC m16a4. I mentioned mine having a colt roll mark but stating Titusville, FL above the trigger pins. We stayed in touch for several years and would periodically get back on the subject of those rifles and we finally came across the information of how they got those markings and they were indeed Colt rifles with KAC markings. Supposedly colt was pushing out so many rifles for the GWOT at that time that some of the rifles weren't getting all or any markings other than serials. KAC would get those rifles for install of the handguards and a final inspection and would put their info where colt didn't.

  • @404tactical7
    @404tactical714 күн бұрын

    @southern842 That's good first-hand info on the subject. I have never heard of the markings on the rifles like that. Guess when they are pushing through rifles, there are a lot of hands contributing to keep up on quality and production. A side note I picked up a surplus Knight's Armament rail cover kit in a KA vinyl pouch a few months back at a military surplus store in Louisville for $14.95. All those rail covers just Knight's Armament and the foregrip has Titusville, FL, but I have seen some with Vero Beach, FL on them. Guess the markings on different components will identify the years for production and use. I appreciate your Service. Thanks-Doug

  • @404tactical7

    The forging marks will only tell you the forging house that produced it. Cerro Forge = Keyhole. Other widely produced receivers have the Square or A. There are many other forging houses with various letters or symbols. The serial number is the way to identify the year that receiver /rifle was produced. If full auto, it was later variation and an upgrade from 3 round burst variant.

    Good info and thanks for the feedback. I did use a Dremel on the bottom of the front tab and the rear lug. Been working fine since that was done. Thanks-Doug
