M16 lower receiver. Harrington & Richardson M16A1 style retro lower from PSA. H&R M16A1.

Ойын-сауық

This is an overview and first impression of the H&R M16A1 - one offerings for the line of Retro rifle parts offered by Palmetto State Armory. This lower looks great in gray and has very nice laser engraved markings including Government Property markings and AUTO laser engraved on the side. If you are doing a Retro rifle build (Clone Correct) this would be a good start if you can find a matching gray upper. H&R manufactured the M16A1 in 1968, 1969 and 1970 as part of the government contract to provide rifles for the U.S. soldiers in Vietnam. H&R also is manufacturing many other lines of ARs in different calibers that look similar to those made by Colt Manufacturing in the 60s, 70s and 1980s.

Just ordered the H&R M16A1. Can't wait to get her in my hands. Will bring back a lot of memories from basic and infantry training when I was first handed a Colt M16A1 in 1983.

I bought one of their stripped 601 lowers today, I think I will go out of my way to build the lower 601 "correct" but go modern with the furniture. It's so easy to swap furniture to a clone later on as suitable ones pop up

Thanks for that tidbit. Most of the old pics I have seen are black-ish in color. Colt produced the Lion share of M16s for that war. Also-Thank you for your Service.👍👍

I'd like to pick up their copy of the Air Force's Model 604. No silly forward assist. As Stoner intended. 🤠

The A.F. 604 is the only Retro upper PSA has in stock currently. I think the slick-side looks pretty good. Appreciate your comments- Doug.

Great video. The Type E stock with the trap door was introduced in 1969. What type of stock either D or E would depend on inventory levels at manufacturing facilities, repair depots. It is likely that some soldiers were issued M16A1 Type 603's with Type E stocks, although probably not many.

Very good video well done. You would think for that kind of money they would have matched the small part to the receiver anodizing...

Exactly. This was my first purchase from Palmetto State Armory. All the pics on their website for the H&R retro line are grainy and in black and white for good reason, I guess. Think maybe their QA is not where it needs to be. I have seen many videos where all the pins, releases and such were same as the anodizing of the lower. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate you-Doug

The steel parts aren’t anodized. They’re manganese parkerized. That color ranges from dark charcoal grey to nearly black in appearance and are clone correct. I built my E1/A1 clone using a mix of original parts and reproduction parts from H&R. And the funny thing the original pins and the repro parts are pretty darn close. Looking at photos of original guns or guns sold at auction the same occurrence happens. So I wouldn’t worry about it.

Appreciate your knowledge, and thanks for the feedback.👍👍. My mistake on the verbiage. Possibly, the lower I have is not the correct color versus the upper.

@@404tactical7another thing I wouldn’t worry too much about heavily on either. Those grey receivers are hard to nail down, they were back then and still now. There are some clear photos of atleast 20 M16s laid out on a tar and the uppers and lowers rarely if ever matched. I’m talking in color photos where the lower looks almost silver or white and the upper is a dark grey.

Buyers want them for the markings or just to have a "clone" of a rifle that was used by the military. Also, most people served in battles and wars with rifles similar to these Retro rifles, and it's familiar to them or nostalgic. The price is higher because of supply and demand. My opinion regarding these "Old School" offerings. Thanks for the commemts-Doug

Colt did not invent the AR-15. The Armalite Division of Fairchild led by Eugene Stoner invented it and sold the rights to Colt.

Touche'. Your facts are spot on . Colt was the first manufacturer to produce the rifle designated with the name M16A1. Thanks for the feedback.
