I updated my plug-in hybrid with the latest 20 kWh Nissan Leaf batteries. It's still running strong after 17 years! Incredible!
The unicorn is a 2500 with the 350 motor. Get all the beefy suspension, and I'm pretty sure the 4L80 too! But still get double digit MPGs. 20 is definitely a stretch though!
Definitely a good drivetrain
How do i get one made
Feel free to email us at [email protected] for some options
Front and rear 40psi ?
is there a way to keep the full bench in the back, and the full bench in the front? and fit in the other details? maybe smaller bed?
hello, the suburban is very nice ... could you sell me the whitw wheels? for chili , I have a way to bring them
Thank you! This was very interesting ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@suboverland they are the original SUVs
Are you at the cache valley car show this year?
What are those old suburbans going for?
2-12k
Thanks
When I bought my 92 1500 in 2001, I drove it from Albuquerque to Layton, UT through the 4 Corners area and got 19 mpg! I still drive this truck but since I moved to the Buffalo NY area, the rust has started. To answer that, I just bought a 1995 1500 in Albuquerque with no engine or transmission. The 350 and 700R4 will soon be in a new home. I've been following your page for mechanical upgrade ideas and hopefully to you for interior designs
Would love to find out how much you charge to take my 2003 suburban and make it an overland. It’s a Z71!
Awesome! Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
Any chance you have a link to the springs you used? They make so many variations….Would those be the “comfort” 2” lift springs? Thx!
Can I come work for you
Can you explain what functions the fan serves. Is it just for typical air circulation/cooling? Or does it also help with exhaust and condensation?
I’m 10 year in and 55 grand into my 1990 suburban!! It’s ready for paint tho. Barn doors. Half ton.
Where are you located?
Twin Falls, ID
Man this looks so good
Your website is pretty, but ultimately not very usable. I could not find the swing away spare tire carrier on your website anywhere.
We don't sell it anymore. That's why it's not on there.
I recomend doing the duramax dual battery mod. Just buy the second OEM battery tray and it bolts right in. I have an isolator but its not really necessary if batteries are new/matched.
I did a lot of brake jobs, front bearing packing, tune ups, oil changes, and transmission services on those in the 70s. If you took good care of them they would not let you down.
Agreed 👍
Im building an 85 1/2 ton with barn doors i have an 85 donor truck with a tailgate i really prefer the barn doors because of issues with rhe tailgate windown not coming down and that makes it impossible to open the back but you did a real good job of describing available options and such with these trucks with the aftermarket being so strong in the squarebodies now your options are pretty much unlimited if you dont mind searching the web for what your looking for
Nice!
So when you change your shocks to 5100 do you have to change your back springs to
You don't have to but we change them out with a HD coil
2 feet shorter than a suburban
Thanks
For any off roading that 98% of us would ever do wouldnt require low range. Personally I have an 04 yukon with low range 4x4 but I wouldn't ever need it Personally because im not gonna purposely take my vehicle on any trails that are gonna potentially damage my vehicle. So I would be fine with a Denali. And would prefer it actually. But I do love my 04 Yukon
Good points
Are the wheels powder coated?
Hey Grady, a friend turned me onto your channel because I call my 2004 suburban the suboverlander😂, love your builds, im planning on doing something similar with mine so me n the kids can go anywhere and camp in style, I was going to have vinyl badging made for it but now I gotta find another name for it dangit 😂
That's Awesome!
I have a 2001 3/4 suby 4wd, 130k mikes; I bought it for towing and all the ressons you mentioned plus a few you didnt: Bigger brakes, factory trans temp guage, factory engine oil cooler, bigger radiator(??), bigger alternator, 38 gallon tank (i think its actually 2 tanks)
Nice. The Factory trans temp gauge is nice for sure. Radiator and alternator are the same as 1/2 ton versions. The gas tank is a dual tank system with a small auxiliary tank with its own separate pump.
Love the side storage
👍
Awesome, I got one of those too
which chevy suburban has best 3rd row seat legroom? other than squarebody
Without looking at specs I'd say they are all very similar.
Speaking as a Cruiser fan with a 60 and a 40 series I’m liking what you did,👍👍
Thanks!
That's a nice fridge! Great job, as usual. 👍
Thanks!
Nice build! Gotta '88 3/4' Suburban 4x4 with manual trans I'm looking to unload.
Beautiful Build!
Thanks!
Would a 2012 Jeep Liberty be ok with that type of build? Thanks 🙏🏻
We could try it out. Send over an email to [email protected] for more info
How do these square body suburbans do on the highway? Can they cruise at 70mph no problem? I’ve been look at getting a manual one to daily. I’ve owned old cars so I’m no stranger to them but I’ve never had a square body suburban. Decided I’m going to replace my current suburban (2007) with a square body since mine needs a engine and trans now..
Mustang is the longest running from 64-current
Suburban started in 1935-current
@@suboverland I stand corrected, mustang is the longest running car brand
Perfect for stealth camping and camping Perfect for Hotshot trucking with a 18ft / 20ft flatbed car trailer the gmc envoy and Chevy Trailblazer are basically a gmc Yukon or Chevy Tahoe just a bit smaller great trucks love our trucks
I'm glad to be in the sweet spot with my 2005. Lol.
👌
Bought my first suburban 2 years ago… 1999 GMC … now has 77k original miles. Hoping to take it to 1mil
Nice!
chevy suburban top 3 platforms : 1- squarebody 2- gmt 400 3- gmt 800 350 and lm7 engines are the best
Great choices!
2003 with 260,000 and running strong in great shape. Wife needed a more economical vehicle to commute to work. Served us well for 20 years. Had to trade it in. 5.3 liter engine is a great one. We had a 1971 suburban when I was a kid to pull a travel trailer. Had a 400 cid engine. What a gas guzzler she was. Gas was less than a buck a gallon back then. Great trucks
Awesome!
I currently own a 94 GMC K1500 Suburban. I've also owned and '86. Both 350s. I used to run my electrical business out of one. Keeps tools safe and dry, plenty of room, great for camping, 4X4 for the muddy adobes and mountains here in CO, super reliable. '94 has G-80 rear gear (I just had to change at 260,000 miles) was super hard to find right one, but she's still my workhorse, although not my daily driver anymore. Interesting video.
Great vehicles!
Thank you for this discussion!
No problem
the 5.3 with the 4l60 is definitely not the most reliable suburban. The engine is but the front diff is not reliable, the trans is not reliable, and even the rear diffs have bad pinion bearings. Ive rebuilt my trans twice.
Hmmm. We haven't run into those issues very much. I've replaced one front differential and a couple rears.
Hey from Caddo Lake East Texas and Northwest Louisiana, great video on the different generations. I have a 04 LT 4wd 221,000 with sleeping platform in the back. My new is 2002 Z71 with 131,000. Keep up the great work and I hope you sell as many as you can buy and build out! Erv
Very cool!
2000-2006 my favorites.
Nice!
Really nice Tahoe. For daily driving, family camping and light off-roading, which generation of Tahoes do you guys recommend? I like the GMT800’s but clean examples are getting hard to find.
