Does not seem too bad, lots of cups of tea and a jaunt to the seaside at Weston.

Reading books or watching videos of the citizens of London during WW2 always reminds me to feel grateful for the life I have. I have no reason to complain or feel depressed.

Thanks for sharing. I went to Westdown camp several times with the army in the late 80s. I remember seeing some of the protesters parked up along the nearby roads while we were there.

1:32 to 1:52 doesn't look like footage from Hiroshima or Nagasaki, that looks more like a hydrogen bomb

i grew up in york around 30 miles from fylingdales. not too bothered about that, but elvington church fenton linton on ouse all within 10 miles and all most likely targets, menwith hill too. used to shit my pants on the few occasions they tested the ww2 air raid siren on the school boiler chimney in 1983. very scary times, its only now 40 years later that i can even start to mention it but find those same feelings growing again with the way the world is going, not just me to worry about, its the wife and kids im truly scared for. im thinking should we clear off to fiji or get a room nearest to a primary target and be done with it

I hope I’m in Bath in 1965 when the bomb drops. I get the feeling the Home Office didn’t exactly tell the truth in this film. Although a nice cup of tea can do wonders.

The base at Wane near Hull is no longer in use, to many people got to know about it! I don't know if it is still there? I joined St John Ambulance in Hull in 1984 and we were told that there was no point training for a nuclear war as Hull would be gone with just one bomb!

The Women's Institute certainly wasn't doing feminism any favours: What do women want to bring with them in the event of a nuclear attack? Of course, nice clothes and make-up...

I was a civilian contractor with the military in the 90s and met an officer of the US Navy who specialised in nuclear planning. His advice was, and I quote "You don't want to survive, believe me you don't. My advice? Go to a known target site, get your deckchair out, put on your shades and crack open a beer. You'll get a brilliant tan for the rest of your life.... all nanosecond of it" He studied this within the pentagon and I guess he knew what he was talking about. The advice has stuck with me.
