Great to see one from the late 80s, and great to see Raynet mentioned and featured.

Wow the graphics and animation part of this at 4:44 takes me back to the good ole days of 1978 and the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. You would think your listening to a babble fish in your ear. :)

Thank you, I remember when this first came out. There was the Home Office Display pack that went with the video, the brochure and then the magazine after. Do you have the training videos-there was nuclear weapons, rest centres, etc as part of the Community Adviser Training Programme that was also produced in conjunction with this video. Excellent channel you have-thank you

I wish I had access to all that content. Unfortunately this sort of stuff is still really hard to find. But as soon as I find something I will upload it to the channel :)

So a few blokes with an overhead projector and some radio enthusiasts were going to save me in the event of nuclear Armageddon? We were fucked.

It would appear many agreed. In 1914, the Kaiser could only just be persuaded to "roll the iron dice". In the last 80 years, NOBODY has been willing to roll plutonium dice, EVER.

No one could save you from nuclear Armageddon, however much money, time or effort was expended. One or two bombs? Yes, if you were lucky.

No they were primarily there to protect government and the elite, same as the military would be. If you survived you'd be worked to death clearing up the mess and on minimal food rations. Armed military goons in protective suits would shoot anyone dead for trying to steal food from a destroyed building.. Joe public survivors would be rounded up like cattle and put to work, your purpose in life is to protect government as without that you'd end up doing whatever you wanted. Don't work don't get fed, simple as, any medical facilities would firstly be used to treat those in power, the elite etc.. Disabled etc, those unable to do heavy labour wouldn't be provided for

This is the latest government civil defense film I've seen. This was very late in the Cold War and the same year the INF Treaty was signed.

I get a kick out of the optimism and poor predictions of the impact of nuclear war in these films. Most cities targeted in the U.S. and Brittain would not receive one bomb. London and New York would suffer at least a dozen multi-megaton hydrogen explosions that would obliterate everything in a 100 mile radius. Secondary cities surrounding them would also be hit. The entire area in the triangle around Bath, Cambridge and all of Sussex and Kent would be destroyed. In the U.S., the entire megalopolis from Boston to Miami would disappear. Survival in these areas would be unlikely, and any outside help impossible.

Well that only be in the vicinity of the blasts once you get further out you would find somewhat useable roads and the army’s lorries are built to go off road so they will be fine if they can do it in a normal war they can do it in a post nuclear environment
