So every program has to earn their right to be accepted into a conference? That's a take I guess😅 I'd be interested to know which program the channel host favors and what they did to deserve to be in the Big12..along with Cincy, Houston, BYU, UCF, Arizona etc. The simple fact of the matter is this: Texas is an iconic brand, considered a blueblood in football and all that, hate or love it, can't be denied. The host also seems to be unaware the SEC tried to grab Texas when the SWC was ending, and then again after Colorado and Nebraska left the Big 12, but they ended up with A&M instead which at least served the purpose of opening up Texas to recruiting than ever before. The sole reason Texas didn't go to the SEC when aggy did (or the PAC) is because of the Longhorn network. We didn't want to give it up (your school wouldn't either if you knew how much ESPN was paying each year) and the PAC and SEC rightfully didn't want a single school with their own network, but the Big12 didn't have much choice but to go along. You can blame Texas for being arrogant all you want, but NO school in the country would say no to what ESPN was offering, and anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves. Of course the one school network was a failed experiment as far as ESPN making money (we got it all) and it probably hurt football more than helped (early on practices were filmed for opposing coaches to see) but it did work wonders for our women's and non-revenue sports which is evident in number of times we've won the athletic directors cup or had a top 5 finish. (Number of national championships among all sports) I didn't write any of this to stave off hate coming our way, that would be futile. Only just correcting some misconceptions. Besides, isn't it better to be hated than forgotten? I'm sure many Big 12 programs would rather have the former.😉
Oklahoma had issues with David Boren & Oklahoma State who were responsible for OU not leaving the Big XII with Texas A&M. OSU's petulant behavior and the Big XII refs CLEARY screwing us in Bedlam is the reason why some OU fans are hazing the conference and why OU will never schedule OSU again. It will be a playoff game if we ever play them again.
I know change is hard and emotional when it’s closer to the heart. But, look at it this way. One day you’ll be old men with grandkids and prostrate problems and this will be a distant memory.
Because they have standards and Clemson and FSU don't 😂
You lost me at Paul Fineboob. He’s not close to a premier broadcaster around. He’s a SEC hack.
Voices like Finebaum is why FSU was kept out of the Playoffs.
My favorite Texas memory was Will Greer running the ball in and hanging an L on them in Austin while shooting the horns down n the camera! My favorite Oklahoma memory was WVU 48-28 in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl!
1. FSU is already in works of getting AAU status. 2. Why in the world would you listen to a SEC homer regarding B10? 3. FSU wouldn't be in court if they didnt already have a hand shake for a future destination. Cmon John.
Texas was without a doubt the destabilize factor of the Big12 them and their Longhorn network screwed the rest of the conference and it caused Nebraska and A&M to leave.
35-7
Connor Assalley's 46 yard game winner with 3 seconds left against Texas in Jack Trice in 2019.
The fear is real 😂😂😂😂
As a Longhorn fan, here’s to seeing you guys never! Bowlsbys sense of entitlement is astounding. He actually wanted Castiglione to torpedo OU-UT joining the SEC, by informing Bowlsby beforehand! WOW! That’s some serious delusion!
Bye
One good year in the past decade and Texas still couldn't do what the other Texas school TCU did, win a CFP game. Here is a nice David Sills horns down for you from a Mountaineer fan on the way out.
Traditions and connections don't mean squat anymore. Any team that is not a "name brand" (Michigan, Bama, Ohio State, Texas, USC, ND, etc.) should be very afraid. An elite league is coming and anyone that doesn't contribute will get trimmed, in order to make the wealthy even wealthier. Schools like Illinois, Vandy, Rutgers, Mississippi State, etc. will be left behind. Just ask yourself this question: If you are "THE" Ohio State, do you want to split your TV money with Illinois? Or do you want a bigger chunk for yourself? That's the future of college football.
Texas leaving … Kinda like the doctor telling you you’re cancer is in remission
Yeah! Texas is free of the Big 12 cancer!
lol the saltiness in this chat section is palpable. Enjoy your crappy conference big 12. Now we get to play on equal footing as other teams rather than lifting the rest of you junior varsity teams.
Nebraska thought that, too
By doing what exactly, between you both you all are 0-5 in the CFP and this was Texas first good year in over a decade. The only Big 12 team to win a CFP game was TCU. Congrats on never being able to win any of the games that matter and your mediocrity in the SEC.
Class act OU!! Good luck in the SEC.
If they would have been made to pay the exit fees, that money would be big now.
I won’t miss them. They are the SEC’s problem now
Colorado only got a natty because of the infamous 5th down
2008 University of texas at Texas Tech Harrell to Crabtree
The original big 12 was a beast. I'm happy they've survived all the storms but who knows what the future holds
The original Big 12 (from 96 to about 2010) was arguably the best conference top to bottom, but that hasn't been the case for quite some time now.
The time bomb with OU and Texas really started with Colorado and Nebraska. The Big12 should have done more to try to keep them together. Nebraska, A&M, OU, and Texas have large fan bases and that is what drives the $$.
2:33 John OU's 0-4 playoff record is why the Big 12 is in situation that it is in. Winning playoff games close the revenue gap. You cannot romanticize OU when fellow non-SEC BCS champion Ohio State goes 3-4 playoff record keeping the Big Ten afloat. OU trades on its name and defects to the SEC for more money.
So it’s all OU fault? Exactly what did the other Big 12 schools do to help Big 12 close the revenue gap?
Oklahoma i never minded goung to the SEC because, as you said, they earned it. Texas is just a rich kid that bought himself in...theyre basically just public SMU. 🤷🏼♂️
I can understand the sour grapes from the remaining teams....but don't act as if you were asked to join one of the premier cons you'd say no and stay in a financially inferior conf.
You seem pretty confident that your team isn't going to absolutely suck in their new conference. See: Nebraska Texas A&M Colorado
Everyone still complaining about OU/Texas even after they gone. What on Earth will any of you ever talk about going forward? I'm imagining these podcasts will all be about reminiscing (negatively of course) about that time TX did <whatever>. Without all the eyeballs that TX brings nobody will even watch most of the Big12 anymore. SAD.
Still amazing how much damage Texas imposed on others
Why don't you spend your time welcoming your new "conference mates". Adios
The Go Raiders guy after Tech beat OU in 2005 was my personal favorite. Kingsbury and Wes Welker destroying Texas National Championship hopes in 2002 was really fun. Since "the catch" was already mentioned I figured that memory deserved some love.
Yall so salty we won your conference in our last season
one out of ten try's🤣
As an Ohio State fan, Texas is a failed anchor. OSU has won the playoff games and championship that Texas couldn't keeping the Big Ten relevant and the richest conference. You shouldn't be so proud of yoru cowardice; but, you are.
@@CarlaJenkinsTV 😂 we are gunna monkey drag your champ week 2
GTFO and they thought the B12 would crumble.
Wait for the Big 12's new TV contract.
I never thought it would immediately crumble.....but as each year passes....the teams in your league will get behind further....and further financially
How soon we have forgotten how the 8 BIG12 remainders tried to crumble the conference. There were daily vids about to which then P5 each would go, yet there were no invites to cause the crumble. It was rather obvious already, but everyone knew the BIG12 would survive as a Tier 2 when the then PAC announced that it wasn't going to expand.
Crumble no, crumbling might be more accurate.
I won't miss Texas being all the little guys Superbowl every year. It will be refreshing facing coaches who's job doesn't depend on beating Texas or not, rest of the schedule be damned.😂
The Big 12 detoxing from toxic Texas.
Bowlshitsby destroyed the old B12 by lack of attention and no vision. He was just cashing checks.
Bye and don't let the door hit you where the Lord split you.
Oklahoma losing in the fiesta bowl to Boise State, and the manner in which they lost, has to be my favorite OU memory! 👍
That was an incredible football 🏈 game, one of The best in the last 10 years. That hook 🪝 and lateral play BSU pulled off to score a TD is legendary
One of the best college football games ever played.
Test
LOL Big 12 LOL! TCU LOL
It's pretty neat that the B12 schools want to pay their athletes the max. The 2 and 3 stars in the B12 will be getting paid the same as the 4 and 5 stars in the P2. That's cool for the athletes.
A week after baker planted the flag at (forget if it was OK state or texas) iowa state went down to Norman and beat then in the first time in forever amd one of our linemen I think planted a state of iowa flag in the middle of the feild.
BigTen 1 title in the last 10 years
Overrated BigTen got paid a large amount of money from Fox. Fox definitely overpaid the BigTen is the most overrated conference
As a Mizzou fan, I am pissed Bevo is coming to the SEC. They destabilized two conferences over 50 years and then bolt both once they have no choice or can grab a bag. They are like a “monkey paw” that conferences invite to join thinking Bevo is the key to money and prestige only to develop cancer and then die after they join.
I don't really like claiming it but Utah was awarded a national championship in 2008 by the ap for being the only undefeated team and smoking Alabama in the sugar bowl
To my knowledge Tech has been paying the big 3 sports FB(100 players), MBB, WBB $25k per player , all other sports have been getting $11k per player per year; I think this will increase in the next couple of years!!
I have connections to Purdue and Tennessee, so I’m a fan of both the B1G & SEC. That noted, I don’t want to see these other conferences destroyed. Amateur athletics has pretty much been destroyed. I don’t think that’s a good thing, but that obviously doesn’t matter. I enjoy watching Big 12 football too. Destroying the Big 12 would be a mistake.
I wonder if the SEC even heard about his "powerful statement?"
TCU is laughable, acting like they were the first to announce paying the max. Texas Tech announced back in April that they would be paying the settlement amount.
There were plenty of issues Nebraska had with the Big 12. Lack of a tv network was a big one. Plus other teams were openly talking about leaving (Mizzou, Colorado as far back as the 90s). Stability and more $ is ultimately why they left. Actual dislike of Texas was not the reason but it didn’t help.
LOL K State was 2-8 Vs Texas the last 10 years. LOL during their worst stretch. BWAHAHAHAHA
We are very thankful we no longer have to subsidize your league.
