$880/14 schools = $62.85M/ea $852/14 schools = $60.85M/ea $707/15 schools = $47.13M but distributed unequally. ND doesn't get a full share, so that's $49.83M/14 schools. $511M/14 schools = $36.5M/ea but TexA$$ and OUt don't get any payout as part of their penalty for leaving. So, that's $42.58M/ea for the 12, but UCF/HOU/CIN/BYU only get $18M/ea this year. So, that's $54.88M/ea for the original 8 for this year. As for the Pac12, I'm fairly sure the payout, for the most part, is going WSU/OSU in the settlement. Part of that settlement is paying off the debt owed in various places.

Wrong Texas and OU get the payouts before they leave. And there isn't any debt owed from Texas and OU either bcs it's already been paid and Fox gets the Michigan and Texas game.

I saw an article (might have been sportico) where Tech was mentioned. I think one of the executives of the company being mentioned is a Tech alum. Who knows how serious the discussions have been, but I do believe Tech has been contacted

Hi Laura: we have 6 billionaire Tech families 2 of which everyone knows. The other 4 however I doubt very seriously anyone knows about outside a number of people in Lubbock and their respective industry peers. I steadfastly maintain we’re on good shape in Lubbock. WreckEm!!

“Earn a percentage on any new growth.” So how do they grow revenue? By charging the average joes more money on their ticket prices, their food concessions get 25% smaller and 60% more expensive. All the fun sideline entertainment that costs money gets cut because well it’s not making money. If students already aren’t paying athletics fees expect a fee. If students don’t have to pay for season football tickets like at some schools, expect that to change. I hear some Big12 schools are seeing a decline in student enrollment or very little growth. Expect that to get worse if you’re telling a prospective student their tuition is gonna increase even more. Oh also gotta cut nonessential personnel because it costs too much. Meanwhile Alabama can have a thousand graduate assistants and they probably get a small stipend to boot.

BYU does not do debt financing! Everything is in cash from revenues!

Welcome to the Wild West. No safeguards, no rules, no boundaries, no accountability and no limits. An idea, athletes want to be paid, have them sign a contract that binds them to the school that signs them. Iron clad contract that that a slimy agent can’t break. This would stop pilfering, would put a hard cap for schools and at least, slow grind to a halt of the Oregons and Michigans spending millions only because they have endless pockets boosters. Sanity has to prevail sometime.

They don't have the media eyeballs and have little stadiums. They just don't turn out like SEC fans do or B10 fans.

Couldn't the SEC and B1G do the same thing and keep that large gap between them and the Big 12?

Yes, but there is a minimum needed to run a football program. Once you get that number everything else is gravy.

No one is going to throw money into a dying industry. At least not long term. The ROI on college football is not promising.

College football is more prosperous than ever. Wait til the next round of TV deals, when the SEC and B1G form a Premier League and eject their bottom tier teams while picking up a few more power teams....

That ship has sailed. The B1G and SEC have snapped up all of the top football brands, and will add Clemson and Florida State next. Maybe the Big12 should continue to focus on basketball, pick up teams like Memphis, San Diego State, Gonzaga and UNLV.....

@@ahills-plays6471 question is does B12 stay focused on competing at a money disadvantage with a 16 to 20 member conference with focus on fb and bball or change the paradigm and go for a 20 to 24 member mid fb conference with 30+ members in top bball conference?

When the B12 starts producing a good product, then that gap might start to close.

It's not about the quality, it's about having marquee names competing against each other that draws in the casual fans. If it was about quality, the B1G wouldn't be making much. Over half their teams are not very good.

The 12 has to double its revenue just to catch up. Then neither of the P2 have to grow any further. In what world, with their mid-tier brands, does that happen? It doesn’t. Catching up is wishful thinking atp

What if, and now think about this, what if the Big 12 were the aggressive one and THEY add Florida State and Clemson? Why not? The Big Ten takes North Carolina and Miami. The SEC takes Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, and Louisville. Plus the Big 12 also adds Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh. If neither the SEC nor the Big Ten wants FSU or Clemson, their only option would be the Big 12. North Carolina is the Big Ten’s #1 target. I think they also might want AAU member Miami to get into Florida. I think the SEC would rather expand into new markets (like North Carolina and Virginia) than to add schools they already have teams in.

A very unlikely "what if". For starters, UNC is now heavily leaning SEC, which is unlikely to expand unless UNC is secured. FSU's strategy may fail and end up in the BIG12, but CLEMSON isn't likely to move unless to a P2.

Just say no to private equity. This is college sports, and not the pros. This is government run schools for most of them. Our forefounders wanted a separation of state, wealth and religion. Once again. Greed is killing college football. The power 5 schools have been trimming schools down from the top tier for years which led to what we see today. The schools can make more money to include more large schools from the G5, FCS, D2 etc to help sell tickets. There are schools that do have fan base that do go to away games to help fill seats. Colorado vs Colorado State does draw the fans out since it is more than 100 year rivalry between the two. Their game last year drew close to 9 million in the ratings.

Big 12 will never close the gap with the big10 and sec. The gap will continue to grow every year

That's only half true. Certain schools will close the gap on select Big 10 and SEC members, but nobody will close the gap on Ohio State, etc.

@@JohnDry tenn, iowa and neb definitely wouldn't get dropped. They bring in too much money. Only teams that would get dropped are the ones that don't bring enough value.

You only used the first part of what Sankey said about private equity. If money was the answer for having the best football, Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Stanford would have been playing for the national championship every year for the past decade. Typical liberal thinking is that throwing more and more money at something will fix it. It doesn’t quite work that way.

With players now being paid, the smaller schools will have a much 3:48 harder time to attract the talent to remain competitive. The reason why Oklahoma state and Kansas State were not only competetive but also regularly beat Texas was because the OSU/KSU was able to get players that could be coached up. They took 3 stars and turned them into 4 stars. Now just getting players who could be coached up, but retaining them is an even bigger problem.

@@jansonroberts2616Stanford is an outlier. You gotta be good in school first and football second. They heavily restrict transfer students and the walk-ons are heavily turned off to the tuition price tag. But they do pretty well in their Olympic sports.

It’s a loan. Plain and simple. Avoid like the plague!!! Face it folks, D-1 football is a three tiered sport. The Power 2, the mid 2 and the G-5.

It seems that it is not a loan. More like venture capital. You only pay a % of revenue INCREASES not total revenue.
