My name is Shannahon, I am married to an amazing man, the mother, of two beautiful children, two dogs, and a small flock of chickens. I come from a small town, and a very tight knit family. I love to cook and am an avid reader. Food preservation, raising animals, organic gardening, and embracing the simple life, holds a huge appeal for me. We are not, nor will we ever be 100% Organic. But I can live, with an 80/20 split. (Sometimes, you just really need some DQ, or French fries!) I have recently begun, to delve into the homesteading way of life, and I invite you, to come along with me, as I cook, garden, preserve, and raise my family.

Remodeling right now and will have a new granite comp sink. I think I'll use the mineral oil before even using the sink😅
I have that sink. I hate it. I will probably remodel my kitchen next year and get single basin stainless steel work station sink at that time.
wow such a transformation ! Brilliant girl !!
Thank you!
thanks for your "touch up" tip ! so happy I found your channel
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Timely for our need. What tool did your husband use to install the rivets
Thanks, It is just a rivet gun. You can pick them up at Amazon, Harbor Freight, Home Depot, etc.... They run $20 and up.
but if the feed mix have fish meal does that make it can not be Fermented ? as it will make mold easily ?
I am not sure. Mine does not stay around long enough to mold.
Just clean with Comet/Ajax and a Scotch Bright pad once or twice a week and you won't need that stupid oil.
I have tried that along with magic erasers, etc. Not the same effect when done.
@@nearlyorganicnoshing2798, if you actually tried it you would know it the only thing that works and makes your composite sink look like the day it was installed. Putting oil on your sink does not clean off the calcium and buildup, it just hides it temporarily.
I'm planning on getting a white sink, just because mineral deposits in water always dry into white spots, so they'll blend into a white sink.
Good idea!
Can you go over how you wired the unit to be able to use with a generator? Thanks and great video!
The unit is connected to the electrical system we previously install in the trailer. There are instructions with the a/c unit on how to connect it but it’s just a simple 120v terminal block. (Line, neutral, ground.) Then , just use a proper extension cord into a generator the same as any outlet.
Haven’t used my power pressure X in years. This video makes me want to take it out again. Thanks for sharing.
I’m not sure if it’s the lighting or not but the right sink looks like it has a brownish stain on it.
Must be the lighting. No stains.
Thank you! Mine drives me crazy, as well!
Will it remove turmeric stains too?
I would assume so. You might need something like peroxide if that does not work.
I did the same thing
Can you tell me more about the feeder you use when you go away on vacation? I have a tube feeder that worked great for dry feed, but I can't for the llife of me figure out how to leave them fermented food for let's say 5-4 days. Any sugesstions? Thanks for the great video! Subscribed.
Sorry, I may have not been clear in the video. I do not leave fermented feed for five days. I fill up regular dry feeders when we go out of town. My FIL is the one who helps when we go out of town, & he is 80 & I don’t want him having to mess with ferment when I am gone. No suggestions for that. Sorry.
Was that mold on the top??? 😳
No mold. It is part of the fermentation process. Like making a sourdough starter.
This works great and is really easy compared to the expensive “supreme” 3-step kit I bought that only lasted a few hours. The only thing I did differently was I used a magic eraser for the 2nd cleaning. Also want to mention that the vinegar should be diluted with water before putting on the sink per everything I have read.
Sorprendente!!! Muy agradecido por tus buenos consejos!! Saludos desde España
Gracias por verlo. Espero que te haya gustado el vídeo.
Thats a superb video.. We just bought one of these for our utility, it comes with pages of instrutions on how to care for your sink that could have just been summed up and replaced with the instruction. "Do not Use " so will certainjy not be buying one for our new kitchen..but will keep the one in the utility now and use your method herd to keep it looking decent . Many thanks
Happy to help!
You need to make some banana bread

Here you go.
Thank you so much!!
Glad it helped!
So once it’s fermented do you just empty the entire bucket and start fresh. Or are you just using that same water and adding more feed?
I keep adding more water and feed. Personally, here in Fl it is so hot I wash out my bucket and start over every month or so. From what I have seen on other sites they just keep adding and rotating.
@@nearlyorganicnoshing2798 thanks
How long does the mixture last once the fermentation process is complete?
Probably a few days. I honestly have never just left it. I am constantly rotating. The temperature I am sure would also be a contributing factor for spoilage.
when was the last time you cleaned it? lol
Can I ask how many chickens your ten scoops feeds?
Currently 28
Thank you
Hope it helps.
I have tried virtually every type of oil for sealing my black granite composite sink and the one that lasts the longest is boiled linseed oil, it seems to penetrate the composite better than other oils, looks great for much longer the water just rolls off
Thanks for letting me know that. I have always just stuck with mineral because it is food grade & doesn’t go rancid.
How long do you ferment for?
It really depends on your weather and the amount you need. Most other videos show people fermenting on a three day cycle with multiple buckets. Because it is so hot here I just use one. I honestly just start using it immediately. I cannot say if that is right or wrong but it is what works for me.
I thought white vinegar n baking soda couldn't be mixed together, due to any chemical interaction, looks like I was wrong.. G🎉🎉d.. will try that. Also plz where did y get that white corner by the back of the sink, base board or what ever that call it? Thank you for the demonstration.
Are you talking about the tray? I purchased from Amazon. It has been years but I think this is the one.a.co/d/4DiuVOu
@@nearlyorganicnoshing2798 Not the tray, the white strip tape to cover the corner between wall/back splash & the counter, not clear if that's tape or stiff plastic. Thanks
It is plastic trim quarter round from Home. Depot@@KarmasKamin
Never seen that happen either but i bet those 3 jarred were super yummy
How often can u do this??
You can do this as often as you like. I honestly do it about 4 times a year, or before an event at our house.
@@nearlyorganicnoshing2798 Thank u!!
Thanks for watching!@@lynnelder7334
This soup looks so good!
It is one of our favorites. Thanks for watching.
Sloppy Joe’s sounds so good right now!
They are the best. Double the recipe and freeze and have a ready-made meal for later.
I love doing that with chili too!
Mine didn't work😢 Stuck to parchment paper
I am sorry about that. I have never had that issue. I know wax paper will melt, but parchment usually works like a charm. Maybe silicone trays might help.
Great ideas I live in Florida also and I may copy a few things for when we go camping thanks 😊
Have fun!
Lol who comes and complains that you’re scrubbing too much in a video that’s about cleaning. My sink was a mess. Thank you for this update
So glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching.
Hi. Great video . thank you . Would it work for quartz countertops ?
I honestly cannot answer that. I have never owned quartz. Sorry.
Nice set up❤
Thank you.
So many of these youtubers get cute with their pea salad recipes, putting in all kinds of extra ingredients. So nice to see a straight pea salad, thanks!
I am a southern girl and cook the way I learned from family. I can get fancy with my appetizers and desserts lol. Thanks for watching.
'Promosm' 😻
*Thanks for providing such valuable meal prep inspiration!*
Glad you enjoyed!
I want to talk to you about natural food for chickens
I am not an expert by any means but I will answer any questions I am able to.
Your presentation is very beautiful and you are managing your farm in a completely natural environment
Thank you!
i hate these sinks !! just gonna change mine to a stainless steal .
From what I have read the scrub daddy paste works amazing at keeping stainless shiny. Good luck.
If you Air Fry those skins, you're in for a treat! no need to waste them
Thanks for the tip!
Only one request. Speak louder please.
This has worked great for us. Thanks for posting!
Glad it helped!
The black soldier fly is good for the chickens but this process isn’t! They aren’t getting fully fermented since you keep adding and not stirring.
I actually do stir every time I add feed. I only do this in the summer because it is so hot here. If I let feed, go for numerous days in one bucket it seems too fermented. This works perfect for my personal flock and method.
Hi, think I just made a mistake by bought granite composite sink like this without deep research.... It's not installed yet as my house still in progress of constructing. but now all these maintenance problem that i read/watch make me worried. I'm really curious, how hard it is to maintain, compared to Stainless steel, especially on hard stain like tea/coffee, or any stuff that left for a weeks uncleaned? Mine have grey color, but most people buy white or black which i know hard to maintain, whatever the material is. Like black shower, or faucet are already hard to maintain right...
Honestly it is not that bad. I love a stainless sink, and would never have another enamel one, but that is personal opinion. Where your soap dispenser is, you will get more streaking, but I have not had real issues with regular use. All the styles take effort and have their pros & cons, but I can shine my sink up quickly in a few minutes.
Thank you that is so helpful ❤.
