Wildlands is a 7/10 but the parts of it is wildly different quality. The gameplay alone is 10/10. But the plot and writing holding it together is like a 1.

Most AAA games these days are categorically 7/10 games. I just finished AC Valhalla and it absolutely was. The bad voice acting for example is front and centre (and looks like it will be in Shadows as well, based on the latest trailer). Activision has been churning out 7/10 COD games for years and years. When was the last FIFA that wasn't a 7/10? When was the last time EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc collectively put out a game that wasn't a 'let's play it safe' 7/10?

it's sad because GTA IV while still very on rails mission wise gave you freedom to clear areas how you wanted but the gameplay makes it hard to experiment and then after with RDR2 and GTA V the gameplay got better with newer technology but the freedom over how to tackle missions disappeared

I love "The Surge", one of my favourite atmospheres in a game and quite unique considering it's a "souls-like". Story's non-sensical and boss fights janky. One banger of a song in the soundtrack that you'll hear constantly but never get sick of. 7/10.

I played GTA CTW for the first time using PPSSPP but since I didn't have a controller, I had to switch to DeSmuME, then I got a budget controller and I could play the PSP version. Beat the game 100% numerous times since then on both versions. I always liked the NDS version more because of its solid art style. Now I prefer playing it via DraStic DS on Android because it emulates the game much more accurately. The way R* handled Japanese censorship in this game is pretty amusing. They didn't remove the drug dealing option because the game doesn't show the use of drugs, but instead they renamed them all to colors and replaced the syringe with a bag of heroin and weed with cigs. I was surprised that fooled the government into giving the game CERO 18 rating. Imagine trading bags full of pigments, colorful placebo and cigarettes filled with green 'tobacco'. I bet that change was amusing for the players. It made sense to rename coke to white and heroin to brown though (since Asian heroin is also brown).

Agreed. A game is as good as you like it. I get that numbers and reviews are necessary to know whether you will spend your money on it. In a perfect world all games would be free until you know you like it and then you would give the developers your money for it, but that is literally an impossible system. I’ve loved so many games people hate and hated so many games people love. Such is the dichotomy of man. Either way developers deserve more money and fuck the cooperate aholes who take all the money.
