Love that you mention the Yakuza series here, but you left out that it also contains one of the greatest examples of actually very blatant advertising in games: In the series spinoff Judgment, there's an entire sidequest chain that is straight-up just an ad for the Japanese steakhouse chain Ikinari Steak, where you meet and befriend the actual then-company president as an in-game NPC-- and I'm not gonna lie, it's so blatant that it comes back around to being actually kind of brilliant. I unironically adore that substory.

I'm currently playing the game. And I never in a million years would've guessed that that is an ad. But that makes it good, because if you don't know the restaurant or the people involved you would have no idea, and if you do well I guess it's just a neat ad.

As someone named Brian, I would like to formally apologize to both the viewers and to Mr. Naked Jacob for my behavior during this video. Driving while texting was negligent and I now see how I put not only myself and Mr. Jacob in danger but also all the others around us. As for my actions during Track and Field Day, my lawyers at Jakey, Jakey, & Jakey, Attorneys at Law have advised me not to go into too much detail. However, I will apologize to those I have wronged with my actions on that day. i dont have a brother, wish i did though. my sister is a complete kleptomaniac narcissist compulsive liar who stole things from me all throughout my childhood. she stole my xbox to give to her boyfriend, she stole over half of my clothes, she stole money from me multiple times, she even stole my 2,000 dollar macbook that I worked for months to get, and I only got it back because I had a tracker on it. My parents always believed her because she was the favorite child. She lies for no reason and makes up stories about herself to make her seem more interesting. She claimed that multiple guys in her high school r@ped her, and then once our parents went to the police, she broke down and told us that she was lying because she wanted pity because her boyfriend broke up with her. In the end, I really with I had a brother, and get help Rachael. Don’t end up in police custody for the 7th time for stealing items from retail stores! You’re 18 now, and you’ll end up in prison!

My favourite for these were the ads in the rainbow Six Vegas games (mostly the first I believe), that if I remember right would change if you were online. It was a "dynamic ad system". And when those ad servers were shutdown, recently, it screwed with the game itself. Werent able to play the game online due to that.

CEO's at game companies definitely say "How can we get some of the mobile gaming money?" when making normal video games now, it has been said out loud, many freaking times at meetings.

the ninja boy game is’ KAMEN NO NINJA HANAMARU’ but Hanamaru’s design is clearly based off ‘Kamen no Ninja Akakage’ or ‘Masked Ninja Red Mask’, based off a series by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who created Giant Robo and Sally the Witch. Akakage was referenced in the Giant Robo OVA as another red masked ninja with a similar name, but as an antagonist instead of a protagonist. kinda like the noid who was the enemy in the commercials but is the hero in the game

My favourite advergame is pocket monsters, it's a company that make playing cards like magic the gathering, but in the game the monsters actually roam around and you catch them in little balls to use instead of cards. my gosh, Pikmin is my fav game, I never was broken from immersion, I knew they are aliens on Earth after humans, when I read it was specifically 500 million years into the future, I was immersed even more, I wouldn't call Pikmin product placement l, more like, "real life assets were used for a fun game"

Obsessed with the fact that there's literally a high-profile video game series about lawyers and yet in the ad break with a lawyer theme Jakey uses Metal Gear Solid music. Love it, never change.

one of my favorite examples of product placement in a game has gotta be Pikmin 2 where you find Doctor pepper bottle caps and jars of peanut butter with olimar trying to make sense of each of these weird treasures and the ship is trying to sell them off to people

I dont think jakey has any idea how much we all really needed this.

The Yakuza series really tried to make the player invested in it's world as it puts you in a tiny window of what it's like in the nightlife of Japan From all it's minigames, how people interact, and the fact I can go to a convenience store - buy a can of 7up and just ef off and do anything else that has nothing to do with the story It does feel like you're just playing as someone going out on the town after a long day.

I actually wanna go to the real places in the games

I first saw you when i was 14-5, it was about how 28 days later would be a effing badass game (Which it still totally would). I am older now and so much happens in between your uploads i completley forget that i ever watched you. However each and everytime your little headass pops up into my feed, and i hear that voice on that Yoga ball you send me straight back to that feeling of fu****ng Awe about everything related to gaming or music or whatever the fu**, that feeling of it being new and exciting and like not a bad place all the time. I will forever cheerish you. Thank you.

Video game ads are so great and noable nowadays to the point where when you watch some video or be on tv it will be a video game ads on their and great video man :]

I genuinely like the way devs handled game ads in the late 90s/early 2000s. Gran turismo ads on the cars and banners, fifa with ads on the walls of the fields etc... it was so immersive

Hats off to you, for actually making the ad break entertaining.

Always a lil bit melancholic when a Jakey video ends, cause I know it’s gonna be a while, but I’m glad you’re still doing this. The Dark Souls video may be my favorite video in all of YT I’ve watched, and the channel in general. If you decide to stop, that’s fine too. Just know you do a very good job at stuff.

Dude yes. I can't tell you how many different times in the last year and a half that I have literally cried of laughter during his Last of Us 2 recap during the Jesse part. Those 'laughs that make him stop reading the script but he leaves in there for entertainment value' are unbelievable.
