Terrible acoustics today.
Sure, our studio has still not been soundproofed, and we were using our Sennheiser microphone, which is excellent but...
Pardon?
if somebody came into your shop with krugerrands and used the money you paid them to buy sovereigns at the same time ,would there be capital gains tax on the krugerrands or is it just an exchange, purely hypothetical
When they paprted with the Krugerrands, it would be treated by HMRC as a disposal, therefore would be liable for CGT. If the owner exchanged small quantities each year, they could keep gains below the annual threshold.
@@lawrencechard5914 thank you that makes sense
A complaining woman? Have you met my wife? We've been married 20 years. You only get seven for manslaughter! - Les Dawson (probably?)
The old ones are the best!
It's probably sacrilege, but a 9999 sovereign would be awesome.
I agree with you on both counts. Recent Perth Mint sovereigns are 22 part gold, 2 parts silver, and they look a beautiful colour.
@@lawrencechard5914 Perth Mint needs to make a bullion version of those sovereigns.
@@rustyshackleford2719 They did!
MG Cyberster
Well spotted, but which version?
@@lawrencechard5914 I can’t tell if it’s single or twin electric motors. What are you driving now? Do you still have the i8? I used to have the i3s but have bought a Smart #1 Brabus. Oh boy it’s quick 😻
@@garrycroft4215 It's the GT with the twin motor 4 wheel drive. The Smart #1 Brabus is fast 0-62 at 3.9 seconds, faster than the i8 or M3/4. The Cyberster GT is rated at 3.2 seconds, which is slower than my wife's car.
@@lawrencechard5914 So your wife’s car is a Tesla Model S Plaid? Or Porsche Taycan turbo s?
@@garrycroft4215 Good guess, but no, simply a Tesla Model 3 Performance, but she lets me borrow it when I go skiing because the 4 wheel drive is very practical.
They look way thicker than a britania 100g bar🤨
Will you be stocking the quarter ounce gold ..and if yes when please ..I really do not want to hand over my cash to BBP if I can help it 😂
We will be stocking these! It's coming soon, sign up to our mailing list and you'll be the first to be notified when they are in stock.
@@Chard1964Ltd am on the mailing list and spoke with the customer service team on the phone they said you are not ordering them
My first sovereign, a 1957, was a “proper” yellow gold colour. The modern red ones disappoint me.
No mention of the 1/4 oz gold will you be stocking them?
Hello - we WILL be stocking these yes, thank you for this question!
New to purchasing silver and gold, only 2 months in. Bought a few 1g gold bars to ease myself in and silver bars and coins. Thnk the yellow gold for me is the more beautiful . Enjoying your informative videos
This guys a modern day pirate 🏴☠️
Is that a compliment?
if bought over this weekend whats the time framefor delivery
Usually within 48 hours.
What happens if I order at the weekend when the markets are closed? Do you sell at Friday's price, or will it be the price when you process the order?
@@MintMark-bt1ti Yes that's a very good question. How do Chards deal with this issue?
I am a fan of Britannias and you are normally the cheapest, with Tavex not far behind.
Strangely, Tavex's prices for Britannias are significantly higher in Lithuania and nearby countries than in the UK, rather as if they are using preatory or loss-leader pricing in the UK.
Brilliant company to deal with.
Thank you. We also constantly try to improve.
Very open and transparent dealer, glad to see you’ve got a microphone too. Needed for such a softly spoken distinguished gentleman voice.
We have used 4 different microphones in as many weeks, In the studio, it's usually a Sennheiser which can be located out of sight.
When is the hatton garden store opening?
It's scheduled for August, but it does depend on a few contractors
Good effort, always interesting and thanks for covering this subject.
Another brilliant, informative video. Thanks Lawrence, I'll be shopping with you again soon!
You're welcome. We hope to see you soon.
I’ve bought a couple of double sovereigns off you and was shocked at how ‘red’ they looked compared to my 1oz Panda. Not sure I’d buy any more modern sovereigns now I’ve seen the difference. I think I’m in the ‘yellow’ is best camp lol
🔥🔥🔥
Thats BEAUTIFUL 😍 nice stackin!!!
It’s as thin as the paper it’s held in lol

Amazing design

Which year were the last yellow sovereigns from the Royal Mint? And, do you think the change is a cost saving measure for the mints?
The answer is not perfectly simple. 1932 could be considered the last, but some QEII sovereigns contain small traces of silver, therefore do not look as red as very recent years. I have come across a single specimen of George V which contained <0.1% silver, yet still looked yellow. From a recent conversation with Dr. Kevin Clancy, it seems the Royal Mint struggle to source sovereign blanks of the correct specification but containing silver. I do not know which year they stopped procuding their own blanks. Cost almost certainly is a factor.
12:10 yellow coins for me but I do have a few red ones.
Thank you for your comment!
Yellow gold for me. Modern sovereigns look too much like copper coins
We address this in our next video, where a customer actually thought we'd sent a copper coin, rather than a sovereign!
It’s got to be the yellow gold the red sovereigns just don’t look right
Thanks for this comment Clare! I personally like the red sovereigns, whilst Lawrence preference is the Yellow gold! Make sure to subscribe for more videos weekly. Thanks, Christian
I prefer 9999 but having some red gold(eagles, sovereigns) look good mixed in with pure gold. I have to agree that the sovereign looks better and more golden with some silver. All the sovereigns I have are 2021 and newer, so I'm used to the current one.
It does seem that a lot of people are in the same boat, provided that the gold content is the same, some investors are neutral about the colours!
I have 1925 coin
Covid😂
Boomers are still testing themselves 😂.
To be fair, people of a certain age are more susceptible to it although I am surprised the current weak variants are causing issues. Perhaps it's the impact of multiple j*bs depleting the immune system while not giving any protection.
"Getting Covid again" was supposed to be one of the "your highlights" I invited at the end of the video, but Christian seems to have edited it out! 😎
@@Korwin_Mikke23 Me? A boomer at only 29? It helps to protect our staff, customers, et al. Fortunately, I can WFH, but I will be back in our office soon.
As a troglodyte myself I doff my cap to you for venturing into the wilds. Thank you for sharing this with us and hope you feel better soon.
The wilds of Welsh Wales? Thanks, feeling 99% now, the same as my blood oxygen levels. Still isolating to prevent the spread of infection.
A pinball wizard?......... from growing up in 1960/70s Blackpool, perhaps?
Absolutely correct, and also from helping to maintain and repair them in our family's amusement arcade, not to mention the dedication required to test them regularly! 😎
Before anyone asks, It was quicker and easier to position the painting on the piano than to move all the books and clutter off it then back again.
If you are doing so well financially, why don't you reduce your storage charges?
Thanks for your comment! The title of our video was actually a bit clickbait - it refers to Lawrence's impressive 1.1 billion score on pinball, not our financial status. While we are doing well as a company, our storage charges remain competitive within the market. We aim to provide high-quality service with top-notch maintenance and security. We also periodically offer promotions and discounts, so stay tuned for those. If you have any specific questions or suggestions, we're always here to listen and improve.
"So well financially"? Not really. Our storage charges are half the price of the Royal Mint or most of our competitors. 😎
Lawrence i trust you 100%
my friend was buying silver 1 ounce coins in 2016 - 2018 for £13 to £14 per coin from Germany
The MTT’s all have the same date (1780) if produced after 1780 as Maria Theresa died that year and the subsequent mintages never changed the coin design. They are still minted today to the original design. I have two of them - dated 1780 of course. The London mint sovereign ceased being minted in the 1st world war (1914-18) and only returned to significant minting again in the late 1950’s. The London mint 1925 George V sovereign was (re)struck in 1949, 1951 & 1952 (the latter from wiki). The 2012 Olympic coins were minted in 2010, 2011 & 2012, as per the Chards webpages ! My research found that Lawrence opened a coin shop in 1968 in Blackpool at the age of 20, so born in 1948 and that makes him 76. How so 29 - there is a story there somewhere….
The Maria Theresa Thaler coin struck after 1780 carries the date 1780 regardless of the actual mint date. The sovereigns were minted in 1925 because Churchill wanted to return to the Gold standard that year. Not sure. The Olympic coin Neptune was struck in 2010. The Jupiter Altius was struck in 2011. Mars Fortius was struck in 2012. Birthday - June 9th 1948. Wife checked internet 😂 29 is a good age. Just ordered 1 oz Gold Britania today from your good selves. I worked like crazy over the past couple of months to get it to put towards retirement or family when the time comes. Now saving towards my next one. We are up in Scotland. Thanks for the videos and keeping us informed.
I recon you were minted around 1955 👍🏴
I just want to say thank you for my order the other day, and thank you to the lady I spoke to, I think her name was Lesley. She helped me out when my ID process after an on line problem.
How many oz?
Very informative video. Although I found it difficult to hear you in an echoey room without a microphone.
Hi Lawrence. Enjoyed your last video. Always very interesting. New question. With the General Election almost upon us, from what you already know and currently hear, when the result is known and confirmed, do you think the Politicians will lock onto and target a review of the Capital Gains Tax incentives for UK legal tender gold Britannias and Sovereigns? Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you.
There is a well established bullion dealer in London that will sell gold without the need for ID, up to £5000, obviously I can’t name them.
Do you publish the results of your pentests, or show who did the tests, when they were done, what the scope of the testing was, and how competent they were? From an outside perspective all bullion dealers claim to be secure and I can't see anything that sets them apart otherwise.
We wouldn't publish any penetration test information, due to security reasons. However, rest assured this is something we conduct multiple times per year, its always a priority for us to stay as secure as possible, given the industry that we are in.
@@Chard1964Ltd That's a shame - nothing to show you're any more secure than any other dealer then?
@@MrJibble We will be releasing an endorsment via the reputable Pentester we use in the near future. This will show that we have conducted a pentest, but would not mention what exact findings came out of the pentest, as this would be a security issue.
@@Chard1964Ltd That sounds great!
Woah!!!
