Lawrence, are coins from the Pobjoy Mint ie, Isle of Man coins classed as UK legal tender and free of CGT?

No, they are only monetarily "equivalent" to Sterling, only legal tender in the Isle of Man, so not exempt from CGT.

@@lawrencechard5914 Your website suggests the opposite, so what's correct?: "The Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey are permitted to issue their own local versions of the pound sterling in their respective territories. This arrangement is similar to Scottish and Northern Irish banks issuing their own banknotes denominated in sterling. As a result, Manx sterling, Jersey sterling and Guernsey sterling do not have separate ISO 4217 currency codes and are considered local issues of the pound sterling. This means any legal currency precious metal coins issued from these territories should be capital gains tax exempt."

@@MrJibble Thanks for noticing, and also for the quote from our site, which is helpful. It is a difficult area, and one I have been trying to pin dwoen and clarify for most of the last 20 years. HMRC's website is notorioualy unhelpful, and difficult to use. We thought we had it copletely clarified until quite recenlty, when someon on TSF (The Silver Forum) said that he had received contrary advice from HMRC, which does not surprise me at all. As a result, we are seeking further clarification, but as HMRC are involved, we do not anticipate that this will be either quick or easy. I will bring your comment to the notice of our team. Watch this space!

"The Royal Mint is nowadays very competitive on bullion coins"😂😂😂 Presume that means on type, not price.....

They used to be more expensive, they aren't the cheapest but have improved. Their quality control is a bit dodge on the silver Brits
