Chards are an invaluable source for Gold and rare jewels according to my bosses. I was fortunate enough to have had Chards sell me some coins for my children many years ago. The team on the phones are beyond helpful and love the Lancashire charm.
Not sure Lawrence will ever make it as the worlds greatest hand model, but his vidoes are always thoroughly good watch. Also may assume the one fake you let out the door may well have been one of those 1887 quintupple sovreigns that give you nightmares.

Seems a shame to scrap these fake gold coins, especially if you are not certain. I would consider marking the milled edge with an agreed mark. With a certificate of examination, these would be worth saving from the melting pot.

That's a reasonanle idea, but there are a few reasons. First, we get so many fakes that we need to recycle them back into cash. Technically it is illegal simply to own counterfeits of "protected coins", at least without a valid defence. It is also illegal to sell them, although a case could be made for educational reasons. The most compelling reason is that there is little or no market for them. Your suggestion of countermarking them in some way is good, but the three reasons I already identified may still apply. I certainly would prefer not to scrap the two excellent Albert chains, but our cost to promote and market them, together with other costs, and the effort required may render it better to scrap them sooner rather than later.
