    Currently living in Japan (been 2 months now). I always though my internet addiction, lethargy and lack of structure was due to something in the uk. My late night work, lack of independence, lack of funds etc which kept me from my hobbies and dreams. The reality is I’m the same person here as I was there. Lacking motivation but piling wants and hopes without any effort to back it up. I don’t have any tips but I do have advice. If you can start thriving in your shitty environment back home than you’ll do even better when you free yourself from it. If you don’t make attempts to do that then you’ll still be starting from 0 in the next place

    Thank you for an interesting discussion. It's a topic I have thought about much as well and found myself quite guilty over at times, to have and acquire new hobbies and interests but not truly mastering one. Apart from your advice to find a balance (to stick to a manageable amount, prioritizing etc), I am also starting to find more acceptance in having interests that are more periodic rather than static. For example I have played the guitar for years but have always struggled to keep it going on a regular basis. Eventually it starts to collect dust, but then at times I get the inspiration and lust to start playing again more actively until the interests dwindles a bit and the cycle repeats itself. I used to feel great guilt over this for a long time but now I'm starting to view interests a bit more seasonal/non-static. Since it's a hobby and not a job it's not really required of me to be a professional musician anyway. Sometime we set the bar too high on ourselves unnecessarily. And speaking of seasonal, I also find interests vary depending on the yearly seasons. During spring and summer I tend to naturally be more interested in gardening, woodworking and hiking compared to the winter months for obvious reasons. The most important thing with interests and hobbies, in my opinion, is that it boosts your personal growth and skills set.

    I have no idea who you are but congrats on hacking the KZread algorithm! When you talked about cooking, something in me clicked. I never thought of cooking as a passion of mine because I learned to cook so young. But hearing you talk about it like that made me realise that cooking is something that I’m really good at now and something I care deeply about. I hate eating the same things so I pretty much make a different dish every night for dinner. This requires planning and researching every single week to find new things to cook. For my adult life, I’ve always been stumped when people ask me about hobbies because I didn’t think I had any “of worth”. But I realise now that just because something is typically mundane and even though I’m not a master at cooking or a famous chef, I’m good at it and it’s something I dedicate my brain space to. It’s a hobby that I’m passionate about without even knowing it! The best part is that I put on this video because I needed something to watch while I cook. There’s something beautiful about that irony 😭

    Stumbling across this video/your channel in general seems like it’s going to be massively impactful on the way I live my life :)) The scariest part of my early 20s so far is the horror of feeling like I’m finally discovering who I am but feeling like limited time is always going to prevent me from truly becoming myself. Learning to take a step by step approach more effectively seems like it will remove a lot of stress from my life. Also your voice is so calming and a lovely addition to your already excellent content :))

    There's this massive unease whenever I go to a work event or an expo. I go to all these places out of my personal interest - even the work trips - but I take care to look at the people there. Beyond my generalization, there will be people at each expo who not overlap with those at another. The car people, tech people, food people, music people, etc. will never see each other or ever come into contact in their lives as they don't share any true interests until people can bridge the worlds. If anything, people like me with many interests can occupy both worlds so we may as well bridge them.

    I find myself using this method of essay writing in a poor manner. I've decided on summarizing chapters of a PolSci book I was reading in pdf form side by side with an obsidian vault, but I've only wrote down disjointed quotes, names and ideas without much content to it. This seems to miss the point for me, but I'm not capable of understanding how to do it in a different way to how I was taught to write notes in class. Any suggestions or directions will be greatly appreciated.

    The "May as well approach" is something I needed to hear. I honestly wasn't going to click on this video because of the title (thought it was more about multitasking which is proven to be inefficient). But knowing how smart you are and how generally applicable/solid your advice is, I gave it a watch. Glad I did because there were a ton of gold nuggets of info in here that helped out

    I love the videos you made about mini-essays, it inspired me to be a better writer I kinda wished this topic appeared sooner haha. My key takeaways here are that these mini-essay can also be notes for a bigger picture to form your main idea of a topic and mini-essays are a great tool for self-education, to formulate a deeper understanding. I'm doing freewriting, self-reflections and outlining my novel for past time, but as days goes by it came to my mind to by fulfilling a goal to learn new things and expand my perspectives, I have this guilt that my efforts on college is not enough and it's been filling to do something more that rambled out and can't organize it. I'm trying to read some philosophy or self-help books, but I'm resorting to videos as of now since I'm more used to it. Do you have any recommendations on how to not worry on your structure or be conscious when writing something? It's always my main hurdle and I want it to break it out because I regretted that doing in college. Anyways, thanks for the videos, hope I don't forget to apply it on following days.

    I love this approach. I have a tendency to think more is better and burn out fast, but the more I shift toward daily consistency on things like exercise and challenging the reading the easier and more enjoyable it becomes.

    This has been really helpful. I enjoy writing but now as a mother of 3 it has been difficult to write outside of journaling. Changing the goal to a mini-essay is so much more achievable. I always coach clients to break goals down to smaller ones and it never occurred to me to make the final writing task smaller…a mini essay 🤯 I’ve written a few mini essays since watching this video. Thank you for sharing!

Prior to discovery, I had made my hierarchy of things I couldn’t live without, so this video was refreshing in the sense that someone articulated what was thought. This video gave me more insight into additional steps to be taken and I’m better for watching it. Thank you!

    Finding ones style is something I’ve been tangling and thinking of for a long time. not really with much effort or focus before but this does seem like a good framework to use as a starting point. i find that a major roadblock is the great fear of being judged i have carried for most of my life so it makes me choose to dress in a specific manner. Might you or anyone have any suggestions on where else to draw inspiration from?

    funnily enough, i dont even know how creative jealousy feels like, never experienced such feeling in my life, i really enjoy watching other ppl succeed at their own stuff, but that kinda pushes me to try more hobbies/art related stuff/science projects. Only thing i like abt social media it's that we can get inspired by the hard work of others easily.

    Awesome video! Two things I might add: Sometimes you can block things together, so focussing on one maybe two different things at a time, that are beneficial to each other for a couple of weeks or months. Once you're on track and have the basics down, dial it back and focus on something else, come back to it in the next block. Secondly, depending on your skillset to begin with some things may already be easier to you, so you can group that with a harder skill and still make good progress even though you spend most of the time on the hard one. Maintaining is always easier than accomplishing something first

    (Devil's advocate) Seemily there's a fail to mention the time it will take to actually learn and develop these skills to get to a point where its more beneficial and efficient to your daily workflow as opposed to the quantitative investment required. I think there might be a learning curve when it comes to learning new skills to make life and hobbies more effective to begin with. Just discovered this channel. Quality education.

    Managing multiple hobbies is to accept mediocrity

  • @TAWei-hi6uv
    @TAWei-hi6uv19 сағат бұрын

    Not being a master does not necessarily imply mediocrity. The trick is to be realistic, find our how much is realistic for you, and then to maintain enough focus to become good at those things. That is challenging, but most certainly not mediocre.
