I concur with the utility of the desk organizer. When I had to work from home on a desk with inadequate space for my tasks, I did get a desk organizer (actually, a spinning makeup organizer - it had a smaller footprint) and it was a significant help. Whether it’s struggling to use an ineffective interface, or having to find a highlighter on a cluttered desk, you shouldn’t have to expend any mental energy on the tools you use. Ideally, no aspect of the tools you use should distract from the process.

is feels nice to see a book with two colors of tags coming everywhere from the book somewhere outside my room, but what is very interesting and also "comforting" about your videos, is that you decided to make videos and did it without making the whole experience feel so fancy, with lighting or the desk, or any item that feels so "aesthetically pleasing", thank you for reminding me with the golden age of KZread, when it was less superficial, and more real, and lastly, it is too bad that i cant share a picture of my books that expel blues and greens.

My biggest helper is to always have a notebook and pen or SOMETHING to write with manually when I get some kind of idea. It can be literally any idea, but when it comes to learning I will often write down a question to delve deeper into a subject. Also if I'm using pencils I either have multiple sharpened at once so I don't have to stop in the middle of something to sharpen. If I'm using mechanical pencils I check the barrel at the beginning of each session to make sure there is at least one extra stick of graphite loaded into it. It may seem like overkill to check every time, but if that habit is developed you will never make the mistake of running yourself out of graphite. Especially if you keep multiple pencils in multiple locations. So I suppose a big part of this suggestion is to keep backstock. Or "have more than you need." Not in a hoarding kind of way, to be clear. Just make sure you have enough around that if you go over what you expect to need for a project or any given month, or whatever your metric is for what is need, you are not detrimentally resolved to end your session/study/learning to go get more supplies. When that happens it feels somewhat similar to when you go to the store for ingredients to make a special dinner and after getting home and starting to cook the meal you realize you forgot to get the single onion you need.

Any good video recommendation that helped you? My brain is not getting any younger and those two are way easier (judging by my tiredness after a lesson). Next on my quit list is the church choir, which is very demanding in terms of time and especially weekend time, it also reminds me of quitting greek which is very hurtful just like that whiteboard of yours.

Heya. Yours is among the realest, strongest content on KZread. Really excellent stuff. So I thought I would point out some things that might be getting in the way. - background wall - decide on the set: if it's the whiteboard, then feature it and center it - desk - you need to expand upon that concept of a desk organizer ☺️ - if you clear up your desk and feature only the things which you advocate, for instance the book stand, etc, it'll enhance your videos essays - repetitive point-making - tighten your scripts - graphics aesthetics - select a comprehensive style of font & images (the fine art style is really nice) that can give your videos a simple, distinct and consistent look - lists & points of advice - repeat and add to onscreen as you go, so we keep track of our screenshot your points - video thumbnails - select a consistent one (your art & books style perhaps) - stock video clips - maybe not at all, or rather ditch the generic "person doing something" ones and select specifically themed ones per video (nonperson ones tend to be less distracting) - timing - 9 mins seems to encompass everything you need to say in your mini essays 😉, and the longer, the more it borders on repetition - last, while this might seem trivial, I swear to you that investing in video lighting will instantly auto elevate your channel - your appearance, cadence & pace are perfect. I already consider your jersey and eyeglasses iconic. Please feel free to ignore or delete this comment, just wanted to contribute as I could to a channel that clearly deserves big things. We need more of your type of knowledge evangelists and less of the hype and "courses." Best of luck to you, man.

Have you thought about using this amazing invention called a computer or e-reader where you can highlight stuff and actually search for exactly what you are looking for (highlights, notes or topics) rather than having to thumb through physical pages and wondering which of the 50 sticky tabs you stuck to the page is what you were looking for?

  • @odysseas__

I don't like reading on either, and it's not a hassle if I have index tabs because I move through them in order to transfer everything online

5:22 LOL I know the feeling... I've also got myself a book stand for exactly the same reasons you mentioned, and I've also ended up not using it a whole lot. However one benefit I found it have is keeping my books in the view whenever I glance away from the computer. I just put something I'm reading or want to read there and it's stays at the eye-level - much better than having it lying down on the desk (and probably away from view) - and keeps the book at the forefront of my mind. For example right now Atomic Habits is there so it reminds me of some of the principles and the notes I've been taking from the book recently. // By the way, since you use Obsidian a lot - do you have a process for forming connections between your new and old notes? It's pretty easy when all the related notes are recent, but I'm still trying to figure out how to do the same for notes I'd taken a long time ago...

  • @odysseas__

That's a great point, keeps it fresh in your mind to think about. As for obsidian, I do my best to include obvious keywords in the name of the note, so when it comes to searching for similar ones, they pop up easily. I also use tags to give an extra layer of searchability. You can also look at the notes within that tag too see any possible connections

I am tired of mixed understandings on recollection...I hear you, and many who agree with you but then there is Erih Fromm, whom I recall saying writing things down is to forget, I.e. in the way of pure conciousness. I can see both sides with valid points. Strange it is to decipher this for personal understanding..Iuse to do this white board "thing".

Loved that point about not skimping out on spending more on things which demand the most of our time. Which is why I bought the Kindle Paperwhite instead of the entry level variant. That reveals the fact that I read e-books rather than physical books, am I still accepted on this channel? :)

Thanks -you can do this by going to the graph view settings, then in the 'groups' section, creating new groups and typing 'path:' + a folder you have, which then lets you change their colour.
