Welcome to edificity, where you can find videos all about cities, transport, design, architecture, travel and much more. We put a particular focus on our native North East England, especially the Tyne and Wear Metro.
I suppose the only place you can stand in British subway trains is in the middle, as the sides are rounded, and the ceiling is sloped. Do people hit their heads often? This would be a no go where I live, parallelepiped-shaped traincars here.

The ride is truly dreadful. Anyone prone to travel sickness will be in a bad way after a few stops. Apparently, they are to be fitted with dampers. I'm afraid the previous carriages were significantly more comfortable. The station announcements are almost inaudible and sometimes missing - why not digital screens as in any other modern system? Crazy. Sorry to be negative but it needs saying.

Nice trains, but they better fix those tracks sooner rather than later or that accordian pass throughs are not going to last long.
Pity that the new trains are made overseas, but good reviews, but don't make the mistake of driverless trains. Surprised that they don't indicate where the train is along the line. It's been in place in London tube trains for over 2 decades. Great shame that the same supplier is in line for the wonderful Newcastle metro. No wonder we're in a manufacturing mess, particularly as Andy Lord of TfL has gone for the appalling Siemens of Austria, with the New Piccadilly trains. Glad that you are happy with the new trains, but when we invest public money, it should ,in my view , spent on British or Irish jobs, technology and engineering skills. At least we're renewing some infrastructure.
Ah, I was in Glasgow last month. I didn’t realize these trains were brand new. They’re very nice, though the ride is still rough on those old tracks. The drivers did announce the stops as we went along. I don’t recall seeing any of the old rolling stock, though being mid-June, perhaps they’re mostly in storage even then. The lack of digital signs to show the next stop did bother me. I feel that’s a key feature for any metro.

Very unique subway cars. They have a retro modern design to them with an homage to the old model. I like it I had to laugh a little when I saw the warning over the door to watch your head. I've never seen that on a subway car before. That must be unique to your system as well. Thanks. I'm from Los Angeles and have been using our growing Metro network more often as of late. We're getting some cool new lines next year, including a long overdue connection to the LAX airport.

I've never been to Glasgow, but they look really smart and match the existing decor so well with the white/orange proportions. Having been to Switzerland recently and noticed the manufacturer of their trains (which were incredibly smooth and quiet, departing Locarno) I concur that Glasgow didn't skimp on the quality, and it is probably the tracks making it shaky 😅

Just before I had a three-week work assignment in Glasgow 45 years ago, my father asked me to observe if there was anything noticeably different about Glaswegians compared to us Edinburghers. I expected the answer to be that there were more redheads in Glasgow but I immediately observed that there were a lot of very short people. I am not particularly tall at 6'2" but it did feel a bit like being in Gulliver's Travels at times. When I reported back to my father, who was 6'1", he said that the shortness of the local citizens was why the Glasgow Subway carriages were so small. My father had an imaginative sense of humour!

Nice informative video on Glasgow’s newest subway cars. As a veteran New Yorker and almost expert on our subway system, riders must get use to the bouncing and swaying of those coaches fast starts and equally fast decelerations. In fact, there is an art or almost skill on a crowded car and the angle you are standing, shifting your weight to the fast starts and stops. Anyhow, look forward to another video. Cheers my good man!! 😎
