The Tragic Cross House Disaster
Ойын-сауық
On the 23rd December 1919, Christmas shoppers milling around central Newcastle upon Tyne started to smell smoke, and soon discovered that Cross House, a fashionable office building, had caught fire. But when the Fire Brigade turned up to rescue those trapped inside, it turned out they weren't equipped to deal with a building so tall, forcing bystanders to come together to come up with solutions, and fast.
This is the tragic but inspiring story of the Cross House Disaster.

Im glad that more and more people are interested in local history & are sharing
Thanks for the history 👍
Thanks for telling us this _tall_ tale! :)
A really good video and a nice bit of local history which I was completely unaware of. As much as I do like your content about the metro and the wider urban transport in Europe, I do like the bits about local history too and I hope you do more of them!

@@edificity Have you thought about maybe doing some of the smaller bits on the metro line? There's some interesting bits around South Gosforth and Regents' Centre, not least the first Greggs and the old Great North Road, plus indeed why Regents Centre is called that (something I don't know the answer to!)
Great video. Nice production techniques on this one.
Make video of Extension of tyne and wear metro ..
