I Made a Tube Map of Every Greggs in Newcastle
Ойын-сауық
From its humble origins as a bicycle-based bakery delivery service in Newcastle upon Tyne in the 1940s, Greggs has grown to become a true Northern institution, now boasting thousands of branches across the UK. To celebrate the bakery's Geordie roots, I designed a Tube-style Map imagining if every Greggs on Tyneside was joined up by a metro.

My Grandfather owned the butchers next door to the original Greggs bakery on Gosforth high street and used to supply them with the meat for their sausage rolls

So cool!
Brilliant content , mate! At work, I'd challenge my colleagues to name all of the Greggs in N'cl city centre. This has all of the answers (there's more than you'd think)!
I love how there are three in the MetroCentre, as if to power you from one end of the place to the other.
That is certainly more useful than Teesside Airport Station!

You know what would be marvelous? If Gregg's got fully on board with the concept, had one of those maps in each shop (with their branch highlighted), and even had a Speed Challenge (visiting all branches by Public Transport/on foot in the shortest time) - once you have an officially-recognised best time, the maps could be updated to include a number a la London Underground Labyrinth Pictures (there would, of course, be no requirement to purchase a Steak Bake at each branch).

I LOVE GREGGS I LOVE THE STEAK BAKE SIMPLE AS
I went to the UK for the first time in September to visit a friend of mine in Birmingham. Of course I had to try some British foods. We also went to Wales on my last full day there, so when it was time to eat we decided to make a stop on the side of the motorway when we saw a Greggs sign. They were closed. To this day I have yet to try it.

Interesting, thanks 👍👍
King Street in South Shields used to have three branches, two of them just two doors apart.

Sounds about right :D
Great. Would love a print out for our wall! Do you have any plans to make this available?
Oh I wish I had one of them like!
The Arthur's Hill outlet is worth the occasional visit if you are addicted to both Greggs and discounts.

Can confirm both of those things

@@edificity In the last few months, the reductions have become much less. For instance, it used to be possible to get three packs of scones for £1.5 but now it's strictly 85p each. Cost of living crisis I suppose.
honestly this is epic now we can easily find a greggs
Nice
Would be interested in the Greggs map if it were available on Displate as a metal print.....
I'd love a print of this! I saw an Arthur's Hill branch (I guess this is on West Road? Is the two ball lonnan one on there too?

Oh, bloody hell, you're right. Serves me right to trust the Greggs website I suppose - I'll update it!
Excellent 😂
Your stations markers are interesting (the black line-and-point). Did you come up with that on your own, or did that come from somewhere else?

Some of Greggs shops were Thurstons. How did that come about?
@edificity

I think it acquired Thurstons back in the 70s, and wikipedia says they were then all brought under the Greggs brand in the 90s

You're right, I should have mentioned. I use Adobe Illustrator, but I've also used Affinity Designer for the same kind of projects which is also very good (and only a one-off cost)
