The Tyne & Wear Metro Class 555s Are Finally Testing!

Ойын-сауық

The day's finally arrived for the first new Tyne and Wear Metro class 555 train to venture out onto the system for daylight testing and kilometre accumulation, ahead of its entry into public service. So I headed out to see it go past.

    You'd think as the premier content creator covering the metro, you could manage to convince them to give you an early peek!

    Really? Anyone can pop out with their smartphone and wait hours on end for a test train to arrive. Doesn't make anyone a content creator, especially a 'premier' one, just someone turning up and hoping for the best. I think you need to be a Geoff Marshall to get any of those privileges pal and even then, its not guaranteed. Sadly, this 'premier content creator' is nowhere near the 300k mark that gets you those perks. The entitlement these days is staggering.

    @@coxallk32 OP knows as well as I do the operators aren't going to give some guy with 3k subs insider access. youtube.com/@deadtotheworld22 I take the compliment in the spirit it was given- with a sarcastic wink. I want to make my videos with love and simply hope that the people who watch them derive some enjoyment. No entitlement present, pal.

    My office overlooks the railway lines running through Brixton and I occasionally see these trains on the long way to their home. They look great.

    Are there any plans to preserve the old units? The Merseyrail PEP unit (507 001) has been bought and is currently fundraising for transport to her retirement home! :)

    Yes, metrocar no. 4001 (the first prototype) is going to be preserved at the Stephenson railway in North Tyneside, run by Tyne And Wear Archives and Museums. Six further units were offered to charitable causes but that plan seems to have been abandoned due to transport costs, which is really sad.

    @@edificity That's great news! Shame about the others, you'd think something like departmental services would at least strip them down and reuse them! Our railways are so wasteful nowadays!

    Why does the Metro use kiliometers? Uk standard is miles

  • @pj6641

    @pj6641

    Ай бұрын

    Speeds are in km/hr, distances are measured in metres and kilometres etc. When it was designed, in the 1970's, the metric system was becoming the accepted way of designing and measuring engineering works, which is the standard used today in Europe and much of the rest of the world.

    So these trains are ALL longitudinal seating? Why do the new trains keep being downgrades for passenger comfort?

  • @coxallk32

    @coxallk32

    Ай бұрын

    Thats a joke in itself. 'Passenger comfort' means "get those seats longitudinal so we can squeeze in as many people as possible", so your 'comfort' goes right out the window because everyone will be squashed in against each other. Deep down, they don't give two sh!ts about passengers.
