Trains On Football Club Crests 🚂⚽

Ойын-сауық

Join me as I ramble through the extremely niche overlap of two seemingly disparate special interests- trains and football (soccer) logos. With so many sporting events happening over this summer, I ask: How many football teams proudly feature trains on their crests?
It might be more than you think!

In the KHL, the top Russian ice hockey league there is Lokomotiv Yaroslaval. Recently infamous for losing the entire team being wiped out in an aircraft crash in September 2011.

The football club Leigh Genesis used to be known as Leigh RMI, and Horwich RMI before they moved to Leigh. RMI is "Railway Mechanic's Institute". The history page on the Leigh Genesis website says they were also founded by workers of the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway. No idea what the badge used to look like, but I found what could be an old enamel pin badge with a steam locomotive on the club crest, sold on eBay. There is now an amateur football club, Horwich RMI AFC, which does feature a locomotive on the crest.

There are also two clubs that have railway nicknames Theres Crewe Alexandra who are the most well mnown but theres also Leigh Genesis, the offshoot of former conference side Leigh RMI, they went into financial troubles and last I heard, had dtopped into a Lancashire sunday league in 2012, theyve never been heard from since Both are nicknamed “The Railwaymen”

Also - bizarrely not featuring a loco on their crest are Inverurie Loco Works FC (BBC Scotland did a great little piece on their ultras "the chuff chuffs" which you'll be able to find by searching on here. Lincoln Moorlands Railway also spring to mind. No railwayana on their badge either!
