So pleased I stumbled on your videos, really nice casual presentation of interesting information. I used to ride the ‘metro’ from Monkseaton into Newcastle as a boy in the early 1950’s, I knew them as the gun-da-gun trains, so thrilling to travel on at the time. Great to see about all the updated services, I must visit again soon. Keep up the good work!

If I was to change anything about the Metro it would be to stagger the transition between peak and off-peak services, it sometimes feels like there are at least two trains in a row that will terminate just before I need to get off. It just needs to be done a bit more sensibly and this includes not turfing out the passengers at Regent Centre when the station is on a fire alert. The other element I would change would be to sort out the platform changeover when using South Gosforth, not only physically as it's an issue for people with buggys and wheelchairs but the timing of the trains. It's great when you cross over the bridge to find the train you need is just about to arrive, but that's rare. This goes double for the last trains of the night, you should be able to be on the last train coming from the Longbenton direction and be able to catch a train from South Gosforth that will take you all the way to the Airport, the same for the other direction of travel too.

Thanks, that's a good example! Can't believe it slipped my mind. I'm sure I read somewhere that the rationale was that on football derby days the Newcastle supporters would use Stadium of Light and Sunderland supporters would naturally use St Peters... Not sure how much truth there is in that mind

If I was to change something about the T+W metro it would be to change from 1.5kv DC power to 25kv AC power like they use on the mainlines. That would open up the potential for a partnership with network rail to electrify the line to Middlesbrough and Hexham and even implement new alignment on the ecml to share with mainline trains to run the metro down to Durham and up to Cramlington

That's a good shout, hadn't thought of that. I would imagine they'd rather buy dual-power trains though

Why do you have a moscow metro t-shirt? I mean yeah, you are interested in trains, not politics, but you know it sends the message. And as a previous regular moscow metro commuter I wouldn’t say it is well designed. It is a direct stupid implementation with no any adaptation to local area. They don’t have line splits, they (almost) don’t have light metro sections, zines etc., just pure straight lines intersecting in the center with nothing that makes the system flexible to the area where it is. A lot of new stations in the system are just subsurface stations located near the highways, far from the places where people actually require the access. Oh and about accessibility of moscow metro - there is just no such a thing. Like there are some lifts that don’t regularly work and a lot of unnecessary stairs and that’s it. Didn’t mean to hurt you by any chance, your content is really impressive and I wish there were more content creators about trains, it’s really cool, but yeah, Moscow metro is not the best in terms of planning, maybe it is not that visible from the outside. And again, for me personally it makes some awful associations seeing something positive now about russia with no context. Moscow metro was built by the workers in awful slavery conditions and what’s going on now is ridiculous, i just can’t ignore that, maybe that’s my personal stuff but yeah. Anyway great video, I really enjoy your work, wish all the best, your content deserves more views
