What lunch, lol. There was no such thing back when i went to school. Sandwiches from home and a bit of pocket change to buy something from the shop, usually a biscuit or a chocolate croissant

Hi Pete, I think it would be great if you could record a video discussing the history of Australia and explaining why the Prime Minister holds the highest position in the government instead of a King or President. It would be interesting to hear about the relationship between Australia, the UK, and New Zealand. Is it true that the King of the UK is also considered your King? I know I can look it up online, but I believe it’s a good topic for listening and understanding more about Australia.
Why do you have to do something unique that nobody has done before? It's you-that's all that matters. You are special just being yourself.
it sounds like "you're (a) kitty!!" LOL
No matter what we love Australia .
Welcome back
I'm a Yank who's lived in the Philippines for 15 years and the flies here are downright aggressive too. In the US if you shoo a fly away it goes away. Here, it comes right back with a vengeance, landing on you over and over, bonking you on the head, trying to fly into your ear. So other than his last point about flies this kid's biggest complaint seems to be "Australia isn't the same as America, waaaah!" Well, duh! It's a different country. Sheesh.
Fairdinkum stop panderim to the whimps of this worlc
Suggestions from a true fan: I have been a fan of you for more than 6 years, from the post cast to here, love your show, I'd love to see you bring more talk with your dad, or walk with pete to KZread because we get to enjoy the view of AU as well as learn from you. Anyway Good to hear from you again
Good to have back, mate! It's been a while. Glad you here.
Don’t forget Pete Mitchell’s mum would have put the exact change in the bag. The bags would go in a washing basket and two kids from the class would be lunch monitors. They take the basket to the canteen. They collect it from the canteen with everyone’s lunch later. Then the povo kids look to the kids who get their lunch from the canteen and try to swap a bag of Samboy chips with a cheese and Vegemite samich, only to be badly rejected.
we definitely do not say that well maybe mi grandmother does but yeah nah
Hi Peter, please keep going. We are happy with your content, and you have something that is unique, and that is yourself. Life has its ups and downs, and as I can see you have an online community that is waiting for you. I am Chilean and your videos helped me a lot before moving to Australia. I still struggle with the accent 😂 but I know it takes time. Congratulations and I hope your family gives you joy every day, that is important and meaningful. Cheers!.
Hey ! glad to see you again. I'm looking forward to seeing your new Aussie English video.
My primary school you could just do that on a random paper bag. But they did have Lucy order bags that were a white paper bag with the menu, prices and blank boxes printed on it so you could mark how many of what you wanted without actually writing it out.
Hi Pete! Welcome back :) I used to listen to your podcast when I was in Brazil to try to get ready for this moment now. I arrived just 2 months ago in Australia and I feel that I have a lot to learn about Australian English, so it's great work that you're doing here. I think that talking about Australian culture would be a good thing. As your wife is Brazilian, I think that you can understand a little bit of the differences. Maybe talk about things you/your friends/family listen to, watch, things like that. This week I watched your video about hospitality vocabulary, and it was really helpful. This kind of specific vocabulary for things that make sense in Australia is not so common on the internet, so maybe you could use this, if it makes sense to you. Wishing you great success in this new beginning!
Cheers, mate! Great suggestions. I'll try and get Kel on the channel again.
I was in Primary School in the fifties and sixties and this is exactly what we did. Then you put your money into the bag, the Nun Teacher of your class collected them and appointed a responsible girl to take them over to the Tuck Shop. They were made up and sent around to your class, usually about ten minutes before the bell, to give Sister time to distribute them. As we got older, we just went to the Tuck Shop ourselves and bought what we wanted. The Tuck Shop Mums would see me in the queue and ask if I wanted the usual? I nodded. 😜👍
Haha amazing :D Sounds like what my folks went through. I think it's died out more recently as a practice though
Yep, I had the exact same thing. I know that is an old list because of the prices though! I think we paid like 40c for a pie! My kids did the brown paper bag in primary too so nothing had changed for at least 25 yrs.
Oh wow, it's still going? Crazy!
@@AussieEnglishPodcast I don’t know mate, my kids are adults now well and truly. I am in my 60’s and lost interest in schools many years ago. LOL
Yep! Exactly like this. Brings back memories!
Hehe yep!
i live in NYC and we just got what they had for the day unless you had dietary restrictions they usually had PB&j or a cheese sandwich
@@wildwitchwest That’s something we’ve never had in Australia - eating from a food tray whatever you were given. In Oz, some kids brought food from home, especially the migrant kids from Europe, others bought theirs from the Tuck Shop, and on Fridays, everyone wanted hot chips or some potato scallops. Thankfully we were allowed to order from the place just down the street.
Hi. I watch another Australian channel too and I notice that they say here-ya for here. As in "What do we have hereya? Is this regional?
Yep, it can be either a long vowel sound or a diphthong.
Walmart in America has a shelf FULL of toothpaste , 100 different brands all under $3.99 Coles in Australia has a shelf FULL of toothpaste , Crest and Colgate , nothing cheaper than $10.00
Yep... it's screwed.
Small chips $ 5 , Medium chips $ 8, Large chips $ 10 , You got anything else besides chips , like hot dogs or hamburgers , Nah Mate , only chips
Welcome back 🙏
Thanks, mate!
Hi, Pete! I'm sorry to hear you that you and your wife've had a difficult time with your daughter, but I'm glad she's better now. And as the others say, please don't worry about being perfect. If we love your channel that's precisely because you've been yourself and done plenty of amazing and useful content. We got your back! And speaking of which, I'd love it if you uploaded more conversations with speakers with broad Aussie accents. I've been to Port Douglas, Queensland, and when a couple of locals talked to me I went 😮 Just a suggestion! Thanks again for everything and best wishes for you and your family!
Thanks so much for the kind words, mate!
This video is one of the best Australian English teaching video I've ever seen. You gave so many examples for me to know how to use it and repeated many times enough for me to remember the pronunciation. And the slangs in the video are something I would like to learn as well. Thank you Pete!
You made a pointless video chap, its clear to understand exactly what he's saying 😏
lol this is a channel that teaches Australian English to non-native speakers, chap.
Hello Pete! Great to have you back, I thought you were gone for good 😅 totally forgot about your podcasts unfortunately. As somebody interested in au English, I have to say that what is missing on the market is a dictionary, online as well, where you can check the pronunciation of a certain word like you do in Australia. That is too much of an ask, but perhaps you could somehow take this into consideration 🙂
Hey, mate. Thanks! Have you checked out the Macquarie Australian English Dictionary? It's the Aussie version of the Oxford Dictionary.
If a baby is lactose intolerant, just get the mum to stop drinking milk and you can go back to breastfeeding. Worked for us and we didnt have to resort to artificial lactose free formula rubbish. Anyway, good to see your chanel is back. My son has a bit of an American accent creeping in to the way he talks, so I have been using your videos to help him hear the differnece.
Thanks, mate. Yeah, all good now. We're out of the woods hopefully.
OMG, welcome back! I subscribed and was disappointed that you didn't upload anymore, but now you're baaackkk!!
Also, the Ultimate Guide link is broken.
Thanks, mate. I'll get my team to check now.
Hey, mate. All fixed - aussie-english.ck.page/ultimateaeguide
Thanks!
Thanks so much, Kenny. I really appreciate the support!
I'd prefer daily vlogs
Cheers, mate! I'll see what I can do :)
❤❤❤
Thanks, mate!
Welcome back Pete 🎉 it's so nice to enjoy your presence and to hear your aussie english voice 😊 you could read the dictionary, it woul be a bloody ripper! ❤
Hehe you're too kind, mate. Read the dictionary? As in from start to finish!?
@@AussieEnglishPodcast it's worth a shot 🙃😁🙃
Hi Pete! I'm so glad that you are back! I totally understand you when you said about your personal life issues, by having another kid and then you and your family facing some health issues...oh boy, I've been there (and I'm still having that thing that you realized that your kid will always be an autistic person). Still, in my case when my wife was pregnant with our second kid, and our first kid was diagnosed with mid-level autism at 3 years old. Now we are ok, my boy is now 7 years old, and he has gone to speech therapy and several other therapies since we got his autism diagnosis. Our little daughter is just a blessing to our lives too, now she is 5 years old and she is always pushing his brother to speak and to do the right things, she is so smart compared to him, and both of them are going to school and having a normal life. Anyway, I just wanted to share a bit of my story with you and to your channel subs in a way to share about resilience, to be strong, and to say that we can go through the difficulties and survive in the end. Welcome back and we will wait for you to post new content here. See ya mate, cheers from Brazil!
Oh, mate. Muito obrigado! I really appreciate the kind words. I'm sorry you've also had a tough time. It's not easy. Sounds like you're in a great place now though and your family's lucky to have you, mate. Cheers again!
❤
sooooo glad you're back❤
Me too, mate :D Thanks!
Welcome back! How about making a video where you go on an expedition to find a thylacine?
Hey, mate. Haha I think I'll be searching for a long time :P
Hi, Pete! I'm glad to have you back! Your videos have been a massive help for me! I find your pronunciation videos extremely helpful especially because I struggle to find videos about australian pronunciation that cover all the individual sounds in detail and teach you the pronunciation and yours are always very very clear and easy to follow, so more pronunciation videos would be great!! I also love learning about Australian culture and history. But honestly I know whatever type of videos you decide to post they're going to help a lot!
Thanks so much, Alexandra. I really appreciate it :)
I'm glad you're back! Let's go!
Cheers, Cat!
Hi Pete. Great to see you back mate. I’m an Aussie whose been living in France for the past 40 years and I just love watching your videos just to hear your accent which makes me feel back at home. Carn the mighty Saints 😅
Oh wow, 40 years?! That's crazy. I can't imagine how much changes in that time. I'm nearly 40 and it feels like Australia's a completely different place from when I was a kid. Thanks again!
You are providing us the best lesson! Glad you are back to the channel, I still listen your podcast everyday. Please post the vid at your pase. I support you from Japan🎉 Regarding to feedback, I reqest the talk vid or podcast with your dad!
Thanks so much, mate!
Hi Pete. Glad to have you back. I feel you, we had very similar issues with our daughter, and guess what? we live in Victoria, too. Our daughter is almost the same age as yours. Wish we could meet and have a chat. My wife and I both watched your videos.
Cheers, Maz. Yeah, I need to organise some kind of meetup eventually in Geelong. Would you be able to make it there?
@AussieEnglishPodcast Yes, we will. We're only about an hour from Geelong. Looking forward to it.
you’re backkk!!! welcome!!!! I had been waiting for ya!!!
Cheers, mate! :D
You are the best, I’m following you for over 6 years now and it doesn’t matter if others did similar videos or the same content, you are unique! Thanks for coming back!!! I love the everyday content, showing where you go or sharing a thought.
