I have met Karl. Once was enough.

I think at the part where you're describing how he dropped the auxiliary verb when saying "we thought we'd seen something" I think his mind was tripping up on the word weed that he couldn't even bring himself to say "we'd" because it sounds exactly like the word weed so possibly a little shy around the subject from being called out on it what with all the drug reference being made by Karl. It's really interesting when picking apart language styles and a lot of what we use in language has so much to do with who we are fundamentally at our core as beings so anyone who wishes to learn either a new language or a new way of speaking or an accent essentially has to become as genuine and authentic to their desire to learn that they become a completely new and different person. We all have an Australian in us. It's just a matter of connecting with it.

g'day, how's it going? one thing I would like to confirm. In US English, after r, flap t is used, e.g. party, immortal, mortar, martyr, etc. How are these words pronounced in Aussie English? Should I use true t or flap t?

The R in those examples isn't pronounced in Aus Eng, instead it signals there's a long vowel sound and we just use the T-Flap after the vowel.

Hey Malyn. Thanks a lot, mate! Check out some of the vlogs I've done previously on this channel. TV wise, have a look at the website - iView. It's like the Australian government's version of Netflix and has a lot of free shows you can watch if you're in Aus. If you're not, you should be able to access it with a VPN. Round the Twist, Seachange, Glitch, are some good shows to check out.

Those copyright laws about music in the background of videos like this are so absolutely stupid.

"Tall poppy syndrome" is a claim that average Australians are always criticising/trying to undermine those who succeed. It comes from the notion of farmers chopping down the tallest of their poppy plants because they stand out from the rest. "Tall poppy syndrome" is basically a way of saying "the average person is jealous of the more accomplished and so will attack or criticise them unjustifiably". It's also a phrase that allows the elite/celebrities/politicians to claim that any criticism of their actions is because of jealousy. "Oh, you disagree with decreasing taxes on billionaires? It's just tall poppy syndrome."

That bogan in the thumbnail is my mates dad, Clint. He has been the poster boy of bogans in Australia, no the world, for decades now. He is the worlds most qualified bogan and he's never received a single cent out of it. It's just everyone else using his image for free while he lives in an old run down shed in the bush in Tasmania. Aw really? Huh. Well thank you. It just surprised me because one of the comments in the video says something like 'The best thing about this part is that non-Aussies will be completely lost there' but a lot of the replies say 'I'm from (insert country name that's not Australia) but I understood them perfectly word for word'. I guess maybe the original comment was phishing for foreigners pretending to understand lol?

@@AussieEnglishPodcast Hmm... i was really wanting to learn more about connected speech and linking sounds stuff like that, cuz I know that most of words not always are pronounced they same way as written, so when I read something in English like sentences I try to do the Australian accent but still I have a little difficulty because of the intrusive R.

Karl was super excited to see the guy on the left and how he looked with the long hair and the crazy beard because that's basically what to expect from Aussie surfer types. A lot like California surfer types or hippie or hipster types.

I mean the guy speaks in a cultivated accent and is comparing that to a bogan accent. That's like us comparing general American to Louisiana Creole English

honestly idk why I'm here, I'm Australian and understand them just fine. But man, they were such good sports with Karl and even more so with that other presenter (who does not have the same charm to compensate), so out of pocket! I'm sure the surfers would have laughed it off when the camera stopped rolling, but it's pretty bad form to get someone on and then straight up laugh at their appearance and take potshots at them, even if your are a national icon. Especially when you kinda look like a former head boy who peaked in high school. Now everyone go search "Karl Stefanovic Logies drunk" 😏

Jesus Christ. It's so hard to understand them.😭😭
