The new Who is so incredibly WOKE that it's almost a parody of the movement! Entertainment as propaganda...always a tried and true method for influencing our youth. Pity they usurped one of my favorite shows of all time...<sigh> Glad I have the best seasons on DVD...and my Professionals ones, too. Would *that* show have ever been considered in this new era of message before story.

A great appraisal of the specials - special they weren't unfortunately. I've watched a lot of Russell T. Davies' work over the years. I've loved a lot of it, but "Years and Years" was a messaging overload. Hated it. As much as I hate this RTD2 era. My heart broke when Rose and Donna talked down to the Doctor like that. Shame on RTD.

@@clonetrooper2003 1. Doctor Who has always been a "vehicle for the message" and woke 2. Donna "choosing" to ignore everything going on happens for a reason. Everyone that remembers what happened at the end of her season knows? Also her focusing on her daughter's well being over anything else makes 100% sense too. 3. The boys calling Rose by her dead name are there for storytelling, one wouldn't think after years of watching the show people would be okay with stuff like that? 4. The Doctor assuming Will is dead and that entire part of the dialogue makes sense too, exactly the same type of dialogue you'd find in Donna's season 5. The Meeps are over 40 years old and their behaviour makes sense too, has any of you seen the episode at all? 6. Rose makes a good point with the pronoun thing. It is an alien. You don't know if they have genders at all. You don't know anything about them. Asking them how to refer to them when you first meet them and trying to get to know them and what they're doing here makes total sense? Plus yeah of course a trans person, the people who deal with misgendering and related stuff the most, is going to make it a "big" deal 7. Specially because we don't know if they have the same pleasantries, customs and social political concerns as humans is why we gotta ask them, plus the Doctor not realising at first shows how most people behave in situations like that. We've grown used to assuming these stuff when we shouldn't 8. It is not about offense or sexual? stuff that knowing who someone or something in this case identifies as, they exist, you will refer to them, so you need to know how to do so and doing it right? I don't know what's so wrong about that 9. The Doctor has indeed met and dealt with more alien species than Rose, yet here he is behaving like a dumb human. Cause that's another point: The Doctor has spent so much time along humans that he's starting to act like one. It's normal. If you move to a different country with a different culture you'll change too 10. This guy talks about The Doctor as if he had never made a mistake, been selfish or wrong... Once again has he watched the show? And even if he was 100% perfect, it's alright to call someone out on their wrongs? Why wouldn't you? 11. Now what the fuck does he mean by the side characters should shut up and "respect" The Doctor? Are we watching the same show? How's Rose or anyone being rude towards The Doctor by speaking their minds in a respectful way? They're not insulting him they're saying "HEY CONSIDER THIS" and "I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS PLEASE EXPLAIN". Plus Companions and characters alike have always been liked for lecturing The Doctor and teaching him stuff the same way he teaches them, it's how it has always worked. 12. Rose is not doing any of the things this guy says in the video. Talking ironically to The Doctor? DONNA'S DAUGHTER? Oh she would never. Donna would never either! What show is this? He sounds dumb as fuck oh my god 13. If you have The Doctors memories and knowledge and your personal, you do indeed know better than him? Math is not mathing for y'all 14. The way this guy talks about what women are for him says it all 15. Men and women are presented with much different lifes. Sexism is a real thing. Educate yourself on that. 16. Rose and Donna are not "wiser" than The Doctor. They're just explaining how different things are as a woman. 17. Rosa and Donna are not presenting themselves in a "feminine" way. Society thinks of them as that. Masculinity and femininity are not real, they're concepts we created. 18. They acquired it second hand yes, but it's still the same thing. They share the same stuff. It's like they've lived it themselves. 19. The episode is not trying to make a point of gender identity or "how great women are". Your masculinity and ego must be really fragile if that's the only thing you got out of the episode. 20. No one finds it irritating that Doctor Who is a show that teaches people why respect is important and knowledge is power. Only dumb fucks find it irritating. It's not the writer's fault you're that kind of person. It's their fault the episode is so poorly written.

I dont need to refer to what to them by what they identify as. You cant force me to respect someone eho i dont know even like. Neither should the doctor. I agree with those bicycle boys 11. Yeah they need to respect the doctor because he is the wisest dude in the hniverse. Instead, they just insult him for being a man for NO REASON 12. Of course you wouldnt know that since all you do si defend bad ones lol 15. Yes sexism is a real thing except this show is blowing out of proportion like all bad woke shows. Want real bad sexism? Try saudi arabia! Women get arrested for not wearing a pice of clothing there! 16. In a nasty and ugly awful and insulting way they are, yes 19. Fagile masculinity?! Honestly, this video was awful. And I am saying that as somebody who really dislike "the Star Beast" but let's be honest you just did this Video because you saw it on Disney plus and saw how many views all those other anti-woke yters got, didn´t you? Because if you had any idea of who, you would bother to do some basic research, like the meep being a character from before Furbys or Pokémon was even a thing. You are just another of those posers, basically gonna over some to be honest sometimes sloppy writing just because it's progressive. There is a point to be made about progressive writing not always equaling good writing, BUT if you cared about the show or well-written stuff, you would at least bother to talk about more than just wonky lines or moments. As it is, this feels very much nitpicky. But I guess who cares? You get the clicks for a sloppy uninspired video about a topic where you probably even didn't bother to watch this thing beyond maybe the first special. Also can you anti woke yters at least do criticism of the terrible stuff disney does? Then casting an actress for a fairy tale flick isn't as bad as them having pushed the copyright laws to their limits or how they treat their workers, but I guess: "Oh no disney made doctor who woke and full of politics!!" as if not the most famous who monster is based on n*zis, lol

I absolutely HATE Rose Noble. What an obnoxious character. If this is supposed to make us like trans characters, no clue how it would achieve it. Rose doesn't look right for her age or act appropriate to the role. And honestly, Donna's contempt for the Doctor in the lecturefest was horrifying. Donna was never developed as a superior character, but rather someone who was vulnerable and insecure and even talked herself down as a temp. It was like watching a murder to see her acting like that. It was bad enough when Rose did it, but honestly, she's a nobody. I disliked her, but didn't care one way or the other. The script was trash and I was ignoring a ton of things anyway. But Donna gone from identifying as a working class temp to someone who thinks she understands time lord energy better than time lords and tells her friend in this manner to his face... hideous. Donna was blunt and comic, but never malicious or insulting until that moment. Would have been better to keep her original arc. In that moment she's the personification of this Hollywood disease. When you're humble, you're beloved. When you talk others down and act superior, it is disgusting. Amazing how people making this stuff never realise such basic things. Also it makes no sense to find flaw with the Doctor for being "male presenting" - even to be preachy, since the next doctor lined up is also "male presenting". But then what can we expect from a male presenting show runner, right? Also the accusations of homophobia are bizarre. Jack Harkness was beloved. RTD's return was awaited till he fucked up. I even like NPH as the Toymaker (well, the script is awful, but his on screen charisma isn't). But the Donna Noble who was literally matchmaking for 10 and Rose to meet in her season finales saying she thought the Doctor was gay basically means RTD has forgotten the show or maybe someone was ghost showrunning it for him the first time around. This whole thing felt like RTD is some senile man adopting the mannerisms of teens to be invited to play with them as though he really is a teen. Creepy and not likely to work in any case.

Has no one actually seen the classic series, or even just a decent portion of the modern series? You could absolutely apply the idea that Doctor Who has only been delivering a "message" since then. Yes, one or two lines in the Star Beast aren't delivered too naturally, Yasmin Finney is a quite wooden actress (mind you, with that statement I am not agreeing with anyone throwing about the vague, undefinable word "woke" and I absolutely believe transgender characters, as with literally anyone else, should be running about in media.), and the Star Beast was a reasonably middling episode - but it's not all because of the new "message". The Star Beast falls flat because it's just a middling episode, honestly, make Rose cis and cut the "let it go" line it will remain the same. In fact, the "let it go" line was, more than anything, most likely meant to be a more playful jab, although written a bit strangely - if it were meant to be a jab at men as a whole I would find that strange considering Russel T Davis is a man himself and progressive folk (particularly those supporting gender-diverse people) would not be receding to gender essentialism. Furthermore, the whole "let it go" resolution is quite clearly another RTD deus ex machina ending in order to free Donna for the next few specials, rather than it being about how women are better than men or anything like that, conclusions like this have happened multiple times throughout Davis' writing for the show, Doomsday, Last of the Timelords, Journey's End (in this case, another "Donna ex machina"), even to some degree the ending of Wild Blue Yonder (an episode I would rank enthusiastically 9/10). Regardless, Doctor Who has always been a heavily political show, sometimes subtle, and often times not. The very first serial of the classic series is very obviously about kindness, working together, and denying oppressive leader-forces and may very easily be read as advocation for socialism (although, that is just a reading and perhaps not something that was explicitly within the text), the Daleks, the second serial and also the most iconic enemies of the series are undeniably Nazis - in an episode written not long after the second world war. Although the thought that Nazis are not a force for good is hardly revolutionary or progressive, particularly a brief 20 years after the second world war, the "message" is still prevalent within the serial. Looking further ahead to the third Doctor's era, his companions and others surrounding him were usually undeniably loud, feminist characters, the typical setup for UNIT-bound stories had an attempt to shoot the invaders with guns, the guns were ineffective, etc. etc. A message of peace and reconciliation rather than militant aggression was often touted, look no further than stories revolving around the silurians or sea devils (not the comparisons to indigenous people - a conversation still very relevant today that is often deemed "woke"). Often, the third Doctor (of course those after him did, science fiction being an incredibly political genre, although for this argument I will focus on him as he was one of the earliest eras and formed many of the archetypes, icons, etc. of the show) would encounter threats allegorical for real world issues that held the same place in the public consciousness at the time as the transgender debate does now, one of his most iconic foes were the autons; the warnings of the dangers of pollution and plastic are clearly evident within the text even through the base concept of the alien force. One specific example that comes to mind, if given in its original 1970's context, could very easily be touted as a "woke message" is a brief exchange during the end of Invasion of the Dinosaurs, the third Doctor says in no uncertain terms that oil and chemicals are not the cause of pollution, rather that it is human greed Everyone complaining about "wokeness" in Doctor Who, or really anything, needs to recognise that this is simply the political climate of the world currently, and even beyond that, people of different races, queer folk, disabled folk, etc. share the planet with us and we need to be okay with that, it should be accepted that these people are going to be in our television shows, films, etc rather than all entertainment being filled with the western idea of "normalcy", this is much the same as the feminist push throughout the 20th century, the many concerns raised in older entertainment, or the feminist figures that appeared throughout the third Doctor's run and beyond of Doctor Who. Peace and love, folks

Yes. Personally most of those People who come with that stuff can be dismissive, they neither care about who nor good writing or a good episode/flick and so on. Personally as far as I am aware most of them just yell and complain about nitpicks and it being woke meaning is bad without any substances. And as somebody who really thought the Star Beast was very sloppy at times, it pains to say but the lack of care especially in a video like this makes it obvisious that it just panders to the "anti-woke"/"anti-disney"-crowd. If we put aside the fact that a lot of those people just say: "Black person as fairy tale character is bad" instead of idk, disney being a shady company, their live action remakes being soulless cash grabs not because of being woke but just being done poorly and so on, it´s clear in most cases they dont care about the source material or anything, they care about being correct in their opinion of everything progressive being bad. Especially a funny thought when we think about stuff like the most famous serials of the classic show, Remembrance being a commentary on apartheid, Genesis showing the Nazi Influences etc etc. Or even the modern show does have a lot of commentary on stuff like, some that can be deemed as "woke". Again you could critics the star beast for sloppy writing, some bad acting and so on but they will see it and think: "Nah because somebody trans is here, that means it's woke, therefore bad", which is absolutely untrue but I guess this video only focusing on one out of 4 specials tells you enough about this person not caring or engaging with who at all

To those people saying Doctor Who is being killed because it has become too woke. First: "Woke" means having WOKEn up to how badly certain groups and individuals have been treated in the past and trying to change things. This is generally something that should be applauded. Second: Every single Doctor Who story, except Kerblam!, has seen the Doctor arrive and side with the oppressed to defeat the oppressor. That is pretty woke. Third: 1963-65, saw the first female producer in BBC history, Verity Lambert, run the series. This was groundbreaking. Also, the first story was directed by an Indian director. Pretty damn woke. In conclusion: Doctor Who has been the most woke programme on television for the past sixty years. If you don't realise this, what exactly have you been watching?

I mean he could've just... not dragged Doctor Who into this? Have you ever heard the story of the wind and the sun? One day, the wind and the sun had a contest, to see who could get a man to take off his coat. The wind attempted to blow it off by force, blowing ever stronger winds to which the man only gripped tighter and tighter. Then the wind gave up. The sun on the other hand, bathed the man in sun rays, making the day warmer, and feeling too warm, he took the coat off himself, of his own volition. The message of the story is that the gentle approach is often times more effective than the forceful overbearing approach. To apply this to writing, people are more likely to hear your message when you present it to them gently, packaged with a good story, then they are if you just bash them over the head repeatedly. Somebody tell Russell to go listen to this story.

Thanks for pointing out how obnoxious Rose’s character was in this episode. Awful writing. Instead of using subtlety, Davies now delivers his messages with a sledgehammer. Also, his doubling-down on the Chibnall-era changes to the Doctor in the subsequent specials was the last nail in the coffin of the Doctor Who show we used to know.

Wooden acting too. It's almost as if she was told to perform with the skill of a seventh grade Am Dram student to attract even more criticism. Which of course she probably was. It's all part of the gaslighting. I can't help but wonder whether these bit actors are party to this ploy, or whether they are just told the inevitable criticism is solely due to their skin colour/sexual orientation/whatever? I suspect the latter, and for that reason I actually feel sorry for them. "Pawns in a political game" was a spot-on comment

@@nickgiovanniit5809 what ru on about shes great clearly you were watching a diffrent show or episode then and hes brilliant sure it started of abit rocky but people will complain if he acts to much like one of the other actors to play the dr but they will complain if he puts his on spin on it dr who fans are just plain toxic theses days the fans are having a cry over donnas kid being transgender or the dr being black or they loved david being back but then they used that to fuel more hate towards the show dr who fans need to get over them self its ok to have episodes you like and some you dont but to complain about only tiny stuff is just foolish

maybe it's because you guys weren't listening? you people can watch a show that so clearly yells "YOU ARE DRIVING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC" and your response would be to press on the acceleration pedel.

They made the whole episode a massive trans allegory, and then they scored a massive home goal: By berating The Doctor as 'knowing nothing' as a 'male presenting' Time Lord, who would have understood if he was still a woman - they are essentially telling any trans members of the audience that have transitioned from being a female (and are now male presenting) that they are stupid and inferior! Elliot Paige will be thrilled. 😂
