This channel is all about fixing things. It follows one family from Wichita Kansas in possession of a combined 8 salvage titles who learned a long time ago that its cheaper and more fun to do it yourself. I'm Luke. My Dad and my brother Jake will appear as guests from time to time and my brother Brian almost always makes the music you hear in the videos.
*EDIT* Oh, apparently we do C8 Corvette allocation news and info too. That seems to be working well, and I like to keep on top of it, so I'll make videos about that from time to time too.

Normally the thing to do is to unscrew the 2 latches which hold the cover closed and let them hang at the bottom, this way it avoids having to always pull the handle inside. After all the adjustments have been made, we just have to reinstall the latches where they were going. Ps: Don't Forget to go around the latch with a pencil to put it back in the same place.
I found your video, while looking for information about it. I just got one. Has a channel issue. Great video, great explanation.
watched both videos...thank you
The thing that worries me about C/F wheels is the tyre shop. Does the guy changing your tyres care enough about your wheels to not damage them. Does the shop have the correct centre stabiliser that registers on the wheel lug nut holes, and not the centre hole? Most small tyre shops will not have the new machine that doesn't touch the wheel.
I know right? I am considering buying a machine to mount them myself. We will see
thank you. One thing that hurts, no matter how bad the car was hurt, why not put a mat or sheet on the floor to protect the seats from abrasion, as well as something to protect the sills when pulling them out of the car? That made me cringe...but, you have somew of the best c7 repair content, and i really appreciate your effort and sharing...baring it all.
You’re right, thanks for the suggestion. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that.
210hp difference? You got to be kidding. I can see 100 making that difference, but 210 ..they should have been lapping you. Great job..time to start modifying her and making her really proud. Then you can say the zo6 has nothing on you. PERIOD> no EXCUSES ... gitterdone! Supercharge it...Bump up the crank HP to 650 WHEEL horsepower , stay out of the wall, and have fun!!! of course, im not paying for it, so might as well bump it up to 850 :)
Lol, I’ve spent so much time taking basket cases and getting them back in OEM shape that I don’t enjoy modifying cars much. Maybe I’ll get into it some day. With this Stingray though, it’s got 55,000 miles and something like 36 hours of track time and it’s never had a malfunction. It’s just so dang reliable. I have really enjoyed its dependability and that would probably go away with mods. I’ll get there some day I’m sure, just not yet.
well, considering the HUGE difference in power, I can't see how they didnt walk away so you did a great job.
awesome..that G meter on the right is very cool. I could feel the pressure in the seat of my pants together with the inputs of the sound and visuals. I am wondering if the z51 has that in the dash or is that something aftermarket.
Z51 has it onboard, but this is from an aftermarket Garmin device.
If i came to Kansas lol, and im from CA , would you help me obviously i would pay, i bought a red one same c7 and previous owner had front damage would you help me with so panel gaps ?
If you showed up here and I wasn’t working I would try to help out. I’m not savant though, it’s just trial and error and you’re probably just as likely to get it as I am.
I’m assuming you got you C8, what are you thoughts on the competition seats thus far? Thanks Steve
Ha! Believe it or not, Not yet! It will be built 5/31/24!
Imagine doing all that but with jacks stands with only 2 feet in the air and u doing everything on your bck those lifts are life savers ....
Believe me, I was thinking that the entire time. I would not have done it back in the old driveway days.
Does anyone know the part number for both bolt and nut or retainer for the back fenders?
I do not know which bolt and nut your are referencing, but your local Chevy dealer can get you the part number for any part.
Hi, where did you get your welding wire from?

Looking for the video on the rollbah. Got a 2007 Sky that I am researching adding to supercharger to the stock engine
I think that C7 has about 5-6 seconds to pull out of your lap time. What tires are you running?
Good eye! You were correct, the next session I was able to get the lap time down to 2:36 (4 seconds faster) and I think I could have taken another 2 seconds off by being more aggressive coming in to 1 and 12. I was still working my way down to later braking markers and I don’t think I pushed it as hard as I could have.
Oh, and I was running Goodyear Supercar 3’s.
Great video...Buy a car from the auction. Since you are so mechanically inclined you can buy a rebuild vehicle and save a ton of money. Just a thought. I'm in the process of buying two C8's.
I have thought about it, but they made the frame much more difficult to repair on the C8 and it’s often difficult to tell what needs replaced until the car arrives in your driveway.
It was impressive how you were able to hang in there. The white Z07 ate your breakfast. but you were able to stay within 10s of your friend it seemed. A friend of mine decided that the money he had set aside for his Z06 would be better spent elsewhere. Before he could call to cancel his reservation, they called him to tell him that he was next in line. THE MOST DIFFICULT CONVERSATION EVER... If you have the means to own it, then go for the Z06. If you do not have a place to keep it, it will just be a third track car, or if finances dictate then I would pass.
Wise words.
Awesome! Great C7! It hung in there real well. I have a C7 Z51 and just bought a C8 Z51. Can’t wait for track time! Thanks for the great content!
Thanks man! I have driven the C8 Z51 on track and it feels like a more planted C7 Z51 where the rear tires have better traction and it’s more difficult to lose the rear (oversteer). I loved it. Smart move, having a warranty for your track car is worth a LOT.
@@RecordsRebuilds I went to the Corvette museum in October and I drove to C8 Z 51 coupe and I loved how I handled. I was chasing a C7 Z 51 and was on his tail. I just got the convertible because I like the fact that it’s a hardtop convertible and you don’t lose trunk space. Wish you the best with your c8!
Glad to see a new video! I took my Z06 to Firebird raceway here in Idaho this weekend and had a blast!
Chente, that’s awesome! You should post the film to KZread, I’d love to see that beast in action. Major respect to anyone who tracks a C8 Z06!
@@RecordsRebuilds unfortunately it was only a drag strip but I’ll be going to Utah for a circuit track soon. I’m at 5k miles and loving every minute of it
New video! Love the track footage!
Thanks!
You sure have a messy garage!!!!
Lol, I suppose it’s in the eye of the beholder. It’s a three car garage that fits 4 vehicles including a 2021 Suburban so it has to bet kept pretty organized in order to stay functional. Everything has its place, but the walls are not painted, and the floor is not coated and there are ugly tools everywhere so it looks messy on camera. For most of this video it was also littered with spare parts. So far, I have made a total of $210 on KZread. When it gets to $50,000, I promise I will build a new TV ready garage that is clean as a whistle. I don’t think that is very likely though ;)
Great videos! My son and I are doing similar build and you have helped us tremendously! Quick question please…the frame rails have a bit of play vertically…how did you align/set yours prior to the initial welds? Thanks!
Awesome! Tell your son he’s a lucky kid! First of all, there is no correct answer except “go buy a laser frame machine for tens of thousands of dollars and get it exactly right.” Obviously I did not do that. I tried my best to make sure the back of the male frame horn was 100% square with the female receptacle. You push it in and it hits the back wall, you want to to fit completely flat to that back wall. Then I put the car on a completely level surface and had people hold it in place while I set the crash bar across the frame horns. Then I used a long level to make sure the crash bar was level with the ground. That only gives a very rough approximation and if you want to do it you need to make sure all 4 tires have the same pressure. Then, you make your best guess and you go for it. There are a lot of layers of adjustment between the frame rails and the plastic front bumper. The second time I did this repair I was close to tears because after the welding was over I was pretty sure I was off by 1-2 degrees. It turned out just fine and any irregularity was able to be adjusted out. Be anal, do your best to get it perfect, but if you mess up slightly it will probably still be ok. If it’s not, and you have to take all that stuff back off, cut the welds, adjust, and re-weld, it will be a huge bummer, but it will still be worth it in the end. My best advice though is that there is a hard backstop in the female receiver and the frame rail should insert and fit perfectly flush to that backstop.
When you get it done, send pics, we’ll post it up here!
Any update on the Salvage Suburban Rebuild series? Your two series is Awesome. Please post other videos as well
Very sorry, it’s been done for 6 months I just haven’t had time to make the video. I’ll try to get started on it again soon.
Good job. I'd like to find 2016 z06 competition seats for mine. Gm products only
Thanks! They are out there, but I searched for 3-4 years before a found a cheap set.
did your targa alignment need adjusted as well ? my father hit a deer in my car recently [c7 2lt] / no damage other than the reflector popped out of the driver side bumper and the roof is gapped a bir up a few millimeters on the driver side. im reluctant to pull all of my 8interior panels to geet to the bolts to adjust the roof alignment. let me know fi you did this or if you have any tips on it im about to tear into my car this weekend. its far past warranty at about 80k miles. so its on me to do all the repairs like normal
sry for typos my meds are horrible*
I think I did adjust it a bit but can’t really remember. At the time the entire interior was out of the car and it wasn’t a big deal.
Do you know which fuse or Relay that Control the Rear Lights?
I do not, I'd have to go read the fuse box or look at a wiring diagram
Well done, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Wow. When I got the wrong year comp seats I swapped the whole seat bottom to get it working
And I know you hit a thousand subs by now but I subscribed anyway 😅
Thanks!
Curious, What was the cost for the salvage?
I think the first time I bought it salvage was $14,500 and the second time was like $16,500. I have rebuilt that car from totaled twice lol.
My wife’s 2015 LTZ AWD 3.6 , has no codes and puts like a kitten when idling and driving down the road and all the gears shift fine . The issue is when going into a incline and keeping the rpm’s between 1800-2300 it wants to buck and jerk it goes away when you let off and or give it more gas. I have read a tune of forums and they all say check different stuff. Any thought ?? The vehicle has been well taken care of with top full synthetic fluids and intervals
I don’t know, sorry, wish I did. My wild guess would be transfer case or transmission or diff.
The gear ratios are too short , i never see that before in a supercar. It's a total engineering garbage works.
Take a look at every Porsche Boxster/Cayman ever built except the current gen GT4rs.
Was this GM transfer case made in China like all the ones I'm seeing on EBay?
I don’t remember and I already sent it to the scrap yard. The OEM units were noticeably different from the eBay Chinese units.
I took my 2016 Chevy equinox 95,000 miles to the dealership to change the fluids on the all wheel drive transfer case’s underneath, the fluid was not bad. $175
Awesome. If it’s a V6, watch for it to start burning oil around 105-115k miles. It’s not a problem as long as you keep topping off the oil.
Hi, where can I get that Gm transfer case that you purchased for $1200.00? My local dealer wants $1787.50+tax. Thanks for posting this info, Dave
Take this to your local dealer and ask them to price match: www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts/gm-case-replaces-part-number-23247710-84953427?c=Zz10cmFuc2Zlci1jYXNlJnM9dHJhbnNmZXItY2FzZSZsPTEmbj1Bc3NlbWJsaWVzIFBhZ2UmYT1jaGV2cm9sZXQmbz1lcXVpbm94Jnk9MjAxNiZ0PWx0eiZlPTMtNmwtdjYtZ2Fz They only want $85 shipping on that website so it would be cheaper than $1500 to have them ship it.
My local dealer Davis Moore Chevrolet treats people very, very well on parts and car purchases. I cannot say enough about them, I think they may be the best Chevy dealer in the country.
Imagine doing all that but with jacks stands with only 2 feet in the air and u doing everything on your bck those lifts are life savers ....
Thank you for making this video, you've saved me a lot of time. I got some comp seats but they're from a 2019 vehicle and I just happened to come up on your video. Just a question though, why is it that a new buckle is needed too? (The part with the button to release the seatbelt is what I'm referring to)
I do not know, something about the change in the way the car senses whether the seat is too far foreword. It’s my belief that pre mid-2015 cars will not fire the airbag if the seat is all the way forward and that this function was later deleted. This changed the wiring of the buckle receptacle. In short, I tried it without replacing the buckle and it gave me an airbag light. Then when I replaced the buckle with the newer one the warning went away.
@@RecordsRebuilds I just did the swap this past weekend. 2019 seats in a 2015 z06 early production car. I had to take the seat harnesses from my original seats, including the belt buckle and use them on the new seats. For the passenger seat sensor, I used the one from the old seats, and just duct taped as best I could in the same location (since new seats don't have the bracket for the sensor). Everything working fine
Hi, its alaways need to change the clockspring? I had a small bump and the driver airbag deployed, seatbelt is working fine, car is working fine, just the airbag light is on and i already have new airbag to install, can i connect the new airbag with old clockspring? Thanks for your video and your help.
Sorry it took me so long. The clock spring has wires going to plastic connectors that plug into the airbag. When the airbag fires, it melts these. You could possibly do it by splicing new plastic connectors in, but this is your life we are talking about. Clock springs are pretty cheap, replace it and do it right.
@@RecordsRebuilds thanks, i will order new clockspring :)
Whenever me and my family looked at a new Suburban, we initially looked at the 2021 RST in Grey and others but it was so hard to find a newer Suburban for a low price because of the lack of inventory
Agreed, you may have better luck now. I need to update this project. Whole car was finished for around $45k.
@@RecordsRebuilds since February 20th, 2022, we bought a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban LT Signature Edition
awesome video, but how do u get the car through all the gears with the wheels off the ground? i know in my car i have to be going at least 50 to get into 8th gear.
Great question. Common misconception. The wheels do not need to be turning. You put the car through all the shifter positions while holding the brake down.
awesome. thank you so much
That’s a scam
Dude congratulations that you finally got it. I watched all the video to see the seats in the corvette and you let me down, duuuuuudddeeee. lol . Glad it worked out for you.
Aw, dang it, did I forget to show them installed? Sorry!
I fill up at that station in Mulvane all the time. I figured the 93 contained a little more ethanol than the 87 but had no idea it was E30. Thanks for the info!
The transfer case on our 2014 equinox just went out. Dealer wants $3799 to repair. Rip off?
Depends on what your experience level. It’s a difficult repair with a lift. Even more difficult without one. It cost me $1200 and a weekend if my time to fix it with a brand new transfer case from GM. You could do it for only $750 if you used a Chinese unit off eBay. If you apply my normal hourly rate at my day job, it cost me more than $3799 to do the repair when you count my time, but I like doing this stuff and I know it’s done right and I got to make a KZread video out of it. $3799 would be a $1200 part plus 14 hours of work at $185 an hour. It’s not a 14 hour job for a professional, and $185 is a pretty standard dealer rate. That sounds pretty steep to me, but I don’t think you’ll find anywhere else to do it for less than $2799
@@RecordsRebuilds Thank you! Found another dealer to do it for $3000. Going with that! Unfortunately, I'm not that handy with cars.
Price. For. 4:19 Transfer
Wichita Resident here. Love your videos! I was sketched out by the cheaper gas as well.
Thanks for watching! I’ve learned more since I made this and it seems likely that it’s ok to use higher ethanol contents in most modern cars, but I still say the labeling is shady. People should know what they are getting and when you ask what the deal is they shouldn’t say “We buy our gas local so it’s cheaper.”
We’re can I get a transfer case online ?
You can get one at the parts counter at your local GM dealer or at one of the many online GM parts websites (which are dealers). Or, if you want a used/rebuilt one you could check these places: 1. Car-part.com (database of most salvage yards in the US 2. A rebuilt one on eBay. They also have new replacement non-GM units made in China for sale on eBay and Amazon. Whatever you do. Update us on your experience good or bad. This transfer case is a bad design that explodes at 80k-120k miles if you don’t change the fluid. I went with a new GM unit because I felt confident it would give me another 80-120k.
Was having a ton of static on my left channel on my Pioneer SX-1080 which I purchased brand new in the Marines, Okinawa Japan. (1987) Never been serviced, mint condition unit. Turns out it was my Tone Off/On switch. I flipped it a couple of times and the static completely went away. I hadn't flipped that switch in probably 10 years even though I listen to the receiver just about every day. Been perfect for 4 months now. I'm a happy camper! lol.
That’s awesome man!
@@RecordsRebuilds Was a truly, lucky find/fix. 👍
What kind of radar detector do you have?
I believe it was an escort Max 360. I have an Escort Max 2 as well.
Correction, that was an Escort Max 2.
What number did you get at Ciocca?
I think I was 237 originally, like 203 now.
I got my 3LZ/Z07 with exposed Carbon Aero and Rims with level 2 Adrenaline Red Dipped interior ✌🏼
Nice!
