easy could have charged double for the coving. For plaster coving we generally charge £1800 per rooom on average 7x 3 m lengths. I know poly coving is very cheap but the labour and finish is the same.

Blowing out MDF dust into the open air and without a mask, really ? That stuff is so nasty man, it contains formaldehyde !!! Good video on the tool but not good to do that with MDF dust, wouldn't like to be a work mate having a lift in that van or a customer having it blown around the home. Buy a hoover for the MDF mate, and even then you need a mask when emptying it , especially if it's been used to suck up MDF, it's proper bad stuff mate. Your video was done 2 years ago so you might not be around anymore if you've been sucking in MDF dust.😵‍💫

Good job. But I believe the media wall should always be ready to accommodate a bigger TV at all times. For example, I now own a 55” TV. But I am going to build my media wall to cater for a 75” TV which I am planning to buy in a couple of years.. Apprentice video bombing was hilarious 😝

Nice job. In this instance, for the MDF back panel might be easier to chalk the metal back box faces then bang your cut sheet to transfer the positions & then cut out. Saves having to transfer all the measurements manually.

  • @skygod1975

Without hearing what you charge id of put it the other way around. £40 for the stairs at approx hours work, £200 day rate for the doors. Not including materials. I fired up 7 fire doors for my estate agent brother as a just finished my apprenticeship joiner in the 90s and i fell into that very same trap of lots of effort for lesser reward!

I think you set yourself up for failure and potentially unnecessary tension between a family member. You either do the work for free or you offer them a mates rate i.e. 50% off what you would normally charge. You can't ask someone to pay what they think it's worth then get upset when it doesn't match your own expectations. A lesson learnt is knowledge gained!

Some unreal comments on this video! Fair enough on your first price bro. I imagine someone called you and said “my floors broken it’s under carpet and I don’t know what’s wrong” you probably had no idea what you were getting into so you said a price that would cover you in case it was a real drama. Makes total sense to me. From a fellow self employed chippy - good work mate

I charge family full price or don't work for them. Best not to work for family if you can avoid it. The people in the comments are morons. Always charge as much as you can for work. These morons in the comments are either tradies without a pot to piss in or they do another job. You can't do this work forever, your body can't hold out. You need to earn serious money in this game. I hate builders as they are pathethic peasants with peasant mentality. I am a 43 year old tradie and my back is fucked but I own 3 houses and have over 4 million in savings and investments because I took the big risks. Asked for the big money and did not live with a peasant mindset. Never feel gulity for charging the pittance we charge. Wages are joke you should easily be earning £200,000 a year if wages had not been purposely destroyed over the last few decades.

I charge $150 for pre hung doors, recently a guy wanted his door turned around to open inside ( like it should hv) new threshold , jame , architrave, caulk done! $400. He thought it was too much so I told him how easy it was and left instructions ? He will never call me again! I am through being taken advantage of! They can do it theirselfs!

Your very own blood ? Cheated You? Sir if you’re watching you should be a shamed of yourself! Just a damn shame what you did! If I do work for friends ( like I did recently) and I charge a fair price they get pissed! It took me 5 months to build these huge set of cabinets and my supposed partner ducked on it leaving me to do the entire job! I charged what a cabinet maker would charge ! I was required to turn in receipts at the end ; questioned why I did not do line item type expenses ( everything was spot on) in fact I left off bout $400 just because and in the end I am the bad guy? I will help my daughter/ son that’s it and I charge them a big fat zero! U should go back and chew his ass up !

I am happy to help out close family members to a point. Friends are the tricky ones. A friend of mine is a barber. When he started his business he charged £10 for a hair cut. Rather than his friends expecting free haircuts, we would give him £20. That is because we wanted to support him. It has to work both ways for friends and family.
