Simeon Kurosky

Simeon Kurosky

My name is Simeon Kurosky and I am a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. I created this channel to try to spread the knowledge I’ve learned throughout my career to others who are seeking the unfiltered truth. You’ll often find my videos contain very few cuts, zero scripts, and my opinions in my videos are spoken off the top of my head. No notes are needed. I love to provide an unscripted unfiltered journalism style to my channel that I hope you enjoy and find extremely informative. Also, don’t be surprised if I mention my faith and love for Jesus Christ a few times along the journey. Always remember the opinions on this channel only represent my own and do not directly represent the DOD or the Marine Corps. Have a blessed day!

This is a very good video for the modern perspective recruit for the Marine Corps. However the presenter needs to understand that the Marine Corps is ever-changing. Show the statement " If you've already been to boot camp then you know this....." Is not close to being correct. I'm betting that a lot of the old-timers besides myself have never heard of half the things he's mentioning here. Then he probably only misspoke When he mentioned the difference between MCRD and Parris island, Since Parris island and San Diego are both MCRD's. All in all he seems like a good marine With some good information for today. Remember in a year or 2 it may all have changed again.

Young Marine- great video. I was one of the smallest and some advice to the HS stud athletes… it matters little and you might not have faced hardships and several very physically fit guts that were twice as tough as me were dropped. They weren’t used to not being glorified.

I get the “don’t lie” part of going through boot camp. And, I get making sure you maintain their physical standards. But, “failing to adapt” I doin’t get…. This is where I would probably have the biggest challenge. Someone screaming at for no other reason than for the sake of doing it,is one of the reasons why I never enlisted when I was young (my biggest regret in life). I’d need an actual example of this.

When I went through boot camp back in 87', when I was done with boot camp, I only lost about 8 pounds, but I lost 4 inches off of my waist. Can you say physically fit?

I went through boot camp in 1960. At that time in San Diego they could (and did) physically abuse you. I got a blow to my stomach that knocked the wind out of me. The DI commenced to beat me , but never where it would show. But it did show enough that the platoon commander asked me what happened. My reply was, “Sir, I ran into a door.” 😊 he said, “be more careful.” My offense: I kept calling my rifle a “gun.”

It’s been a long time since I was there at 99-01, failing a piss test (usually about six in each company). Pretty dumb really because it takes a few weeks to get those results back, one time 5 weeks. But you get sent home. Now that weed is legal in some states, I’m not even sure that waiver now. Hard core drugs equals no waiver. Injuries are few but I did have a kid break his leg on a hump. Good kid too. The Corps used to have a policy that the six month mark was the limit. Either you passed before that or you’re sent home. It’s not that hard. Never had anyone Army dumb but a few tried to reach that level.

Threatening a drill instructor is another way to get sent home. I remember a recruit having a mental breakdown and he actually went after one of our drill instructors. Long story short we never saw that recruit again, the ironic part is that we were a month away from graduating. Stay motivated and dedicated. SEMPER FI MARINES!!!🪖🇺🇲

Three of my best friends are Marines, great guys very loyal friends and very protective, but my God do they have the stinkiest feet, it's a given when Zane Tyler and Zach come over I've got the candles burning, because their shoes will come off and let me tell you, thier feet stink. And yes they are very hygienic keep clean, but all three of them got a bad case of athletes foot in combat and on rucks, treatment has helped a little but on a hot summer day forget it.

Geez can we get some younger people on here? What if you can't do a pull-up to save your life? I am 6'7' it always pissed me off that the fireplugs with two foot arms could knock out 10 pull-ups no prob, but someone like me with 4 foot arms and a lot more weight is almost impossible.

I was born a Marine on 10 October 86. I was one of two Marines Meritoriously promoted to PFC. This young Devil Dog speaks the truth. We don't need you in my marine Corps. You have to prove to us that you're worthy of earning the title. Too many men, and now women have sacrificed their lives to God, Country, and Corps. Madd respect to the other branches. But, the Marines is a fraternity. You want to be a Marine. Earn the title, and listen to this young Marine. This is a valuable video. My advice, be selfish. Before you go in. Ditch the girlfriend/boyfriend. Don't be in Love in Boot camp. It sucks to see your fellow recruits suffer from Dear John letters. They'll be more girls or for you girls more boys out there. Trust me those Dress Blues are a girl catcher. Just be respectful, because that's someone's baby girl. You'll understand when you have kids. Clear your mind and focus on your knowledge. Learn your 11 General Orders, learn rank structure. Eat right, and exercise. Run, run, and run some more. Practice you pull ups, and sit ups. LEARN TO SWIM......That was my weakness. I should have practiced in the pool more. find mentors and stay positive. Listen to your elders, respect your parents. If you can't listen to your parents or adult figures how the hell can you listen to your Drill Instructors, (DI's). One final note. The journey you take from the day you get off that bus and get on those yellow footprints to the day you "Hopefully" graduate will be the toughest days of your life. I'm 57 now and i still reflect on the Marines as a positive pivot point in my life. if you can be a Marine and be faithful, there is NOTHINHG YOU CAN'T DO!!! Good luck. and if you graduate, let me know!!

MCRD San Diego 6/7/99 to 9/3/99 (my 19th birthday). Best birthday present I ever got. My mom's oldest brother told me to keep my mouth closed and go as hard and fast as I can, and if I graduation and they don't know who I was, I did good. On my graduation day my mom asked my Sr. Drill instructor how I was, and he said, " fine just fine." My mom told me he face went blank.

Parris Island, our platoon started with 80 recruits. We picked up more recruits that had been dropped in training by their previous platoons. When we graduated, only 40 of us made it.

I was one of those unsure young kids who was absolutely shocked by what I found at Boot Camp back in 1976. I wanted to get out so bad that I actually infected a blister on my ankle in hopes that it would get bad enough that they'd have to amputate my foot. I didn't want to be there at all. Then one afternoon, because I was on bedrest [ordered by a Navy Doctor] the DIs were putting the rest of the platoon through "special instruction" [mountain climbers, bends and thrusts, 8 count pushups, front straddle hops, etc.], as I lay there in my bunk I started to cry...I cried because I was not there with the rest of my platoon enduring that punishment...I cried because I was left out...I cried because I wasn't a part of the platoon anymore... I know how that sounds to civilians, but it's true. After that point I wanted to get better, recover, and become a part of what was going on. I wanted to BECOME a MARINE. I decided that I would accept whatever came my way. And after that, whenever there was a punishing episode of "corrective Physical Training", I would voice my usual; "Aw...fuck...goddamit...what did we do now?" But I'd go and do what I had to do, and I found that those episodes didn't seem to last that long. After a while, I got to a point that Boot Camp was no longer such a burden as it was a CHALLENGE. And from that point forward, I welcomed it.

Know a guy who finally passed USMC Boot Camp on his THIRD TRY. And eventually got discharged medically after getting disabled (hearing) on the grenade range. Seems he pulled the pin Rocked back And threw the pin. And dropped the grenade. The guy he was with saw what he did. He grabbed the grenade and threw it. Then pulled the dummy down Fortunately it wasn't a fragmentation grenade. The dummy lost part of his hearing. I've no idea about the guy who saved their lives.
