I prefer to ignore Portal 2. Too cartoony, comedic, and scripted. None of the quiet, horrific, open-ended feel that made the first one such a staple. Portal should have been either a one-hit wonder, or the sequel should have been ENTIRELY different.
10:15 Reminds me of Papas pizzeria
Now I can't unhear it
GLaDOS monologue during the Portal 1 bossfight after you destroy the third core: "Are you trying to escape? [chuckle] Things have changed since the last time you left the building. What's going on out there will make you wish you were back in here." "I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I'm not sure what's going on outside." "All I know is I'm the only thing standing between us and them. Well, I was." "Unless you have a plan for building some supercomputer parts in a big hurry, this place isn't going to be safe much longer."
3D Realms is dogshit at the moment, no one shouldbuy anything from them anymore. They managed to fuck up every-single-release *Graven is crap *Kingping is crap *Wrath is boring *Core Decay is cancelled *Phantom is rushed af and they are about to release Ripout unfinished. For me this is it. 3DR nevermore
I find it funny that half of the horror games don't scare me but postal 1 exists and its unironically disturbing, some other games like Hatred tried to be the next "postal 1" but failed so horribly that they added the main character from hatred in postal redux and made fun of the game. And quite honestly, there will never be another game like the original postal.
Damn straight
The Portal gameplay in the first seconds of the video made my day! It was too funny. Liked and subbed just because of that.
I knew people would love that!
very much appreciated, thx
Just found a big box version of this game for 9$ from a thrift store, can't believe it!
Dude LUCKY! I actually got a big box copy of Gunman Chronicles because of this video. The person saw the video and sold me her copy... But that was a $100 which was a pretty good deal at the time. Last I checked, big box copies for Gunman was like $300 - $400
@@ElephantsDoingCrack Wow no way! Thanks for the reply man, didn't think anyone would see my comment😂 I live in Finland, guessing not many people are into PC game collecting in my city😅 Would you happen to know how much a copy of Odd World: Abe's Oddyssee (big box) could go for? Also saw that one for like 9$ in the same store. Great video btw! Subbed :)
Damn dude I should live in Finland if the boxes are this cheap. Jesus Christ. So I just did a quick Google search and from what I see they are about $80 - $100. That is a pretty typical price and usually what I expect here in the US.
@@ElephantsDoingCrack Thanks a ton! I think it was a private seller, who just wanted to get rid off some old games😄
0:22 no this is bad comedy
What? You don't sell Postal?
Ion dev here, I think it's mostly that Aftershock was announced a bit too early and the scope grew from a few maps to basically what we considered closest thing to a sequel for the game :) As for when it comes to Phantom/etc.. we only found out about it during the same public reveal. We (voidpoint) always worked in pretty much full isolation ourselves with next to no funding and scarce information on what's going on.. (none of us were employed by 3dr/etc). Blame on a lot of the delays is on us however! I will say that it having covid / full-time job on the side definitely didn't help :D
Thank you so much for the input and feedback! Aftershock is still pretty good so don't worry about that.
I’d nominate BAD MOJO for “Darkest Game Ever”
Game I will have to check out
3650 is the connection
Yeah...
I finished the game and liked it... its no masterpiece, but better than all this AAA trash games.
Well... Glad you enjoyed it I guess.
Dude claims to be a fan of the series, talks how announcing a DLC after some time is a red flag, but then says he barely even finished most of the games in the series. Tf is his problem?
Aftershock was a red flag because it took too long to come out after it was announced, yet Phantom Fury was a red flag because it came out so soon after it was announced... Seems a bit contradictory to me. Spends the majority of the video complaining about Phantom Fury, but the only reasons he gives for _why_ it's so terrible is "it's boring" and "the AI is kind of bad", which doesn't really explain a whole lot. Why is it so bad? _"Because it is!"_ OK, thanks for the clarification. 🙄 I also don't see how Aftershock being delayed makes it dated when it's already meant to be a throwback to mid-nineties games. _"This game feels so dated and old!"_ Uh, yeah, that was kind of the point...
13:01 The Bruh-ssiles
Postal 1 is cool postal 2 is funny.
I mean... I guess Postal is cool
@@ElephantsDoingCrack as a game it’s cool. And by cool I mean like edgy I’ve never played a game where you’re going insane and shooting up a whole bunch of people because you’re going insane. It’s an interesting concept. Only on paper though shootings are not fun in real life.
I remember Vince Desi saying something like "Violence is fun in fiction, not so much in real life. Keep the two separate." Something along those lines
BUTTSAUCE!! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Is this a bad game because A) it's a good/acceptable game that wasn't what most gamers wanted or expected from the second game in a franchise B) actually a bad game or C) this months flavor of the Hot-Shit-Take Dogpile Topic
B
Ion Fury (and Aftershock) is an unbelievably complex piece of work considering it's made using an advanced version of the Build engine. Everything has to be done by hand - for example, you can't just place a light source and have everything be lit properly like in games using fully 3D engines, you have to actually create individual wall textures to simulate the different states of light/shadows. Add in how complex the levels are, the numerous different weapons, the Arrange mode added in the expansion, etc... the amount of time it's taken for the game and its expansion to be polished by what must be a fairly small team to such a shockingly high quality becomes a lot more understandable.
Yes but I still pirated it because I don't support woman protagonists
You do you.
Sounds like it would be easier to recreate build engine look and feel in some modern engine.
It’s too bad the game turnout like this. Don’t know if I was going to play this, but I was looking forward to seeing fans of the series play it. It’s crazy how in a way a game continually getting delayed might be worse than being rushed (Infinite is a great example of a game where basically nothing got done because the way it was organized was beyond atrocious. It’s pretty crazy just how useless 343’s leadership is and how they used contact workers who were part of isolated teams that were largely doing their own thing). The thing you said about the game being boring and requiring some HEAVY reworks to become good make me think of Starfield (I was going to play that through GamePass, but it wouldn’t let me install it and the cloud gaming was too slow so I just did something else). Callisto Protocol is another game that would need to COMPLETELY change what it is to become good (my idealized version of that game would be like a mashup of Condemned Criminal Origins where you’d have smart human enemies and melee focus combat. While, also having the zombies and make them be like the Necromorphs where melee is a last resort you DON’T want to do. There’s this interesting 40 minute video where some guy did a deep dive into the connections between PUBG and Callisto, and shockingly the story would’ve actually been interesting if they stayed in the same universe. Like most people I had NO IDEA that PUBG even had lore and was confused because Krafton never presented any of the story through their game. It’s all out of game stuff. The most interesting thing is that it likely would’ve been a battle royal type situation where you’d have prisoners being let out in a controlled environment, while the zombies gradually spread throughout the prison. Such a shame we got a dumpster fire that probably can’t be saved). You should do more short ramble videos in between your normal ones. That way you’ll be able to produce more content.
If that so what Voidpoint working on right now?
Idk
It's perfectly fine. It's not as good as ion maiden, but it's not 'every youtuber has to make a video on how fake outraged they are' tier.
I don't really focus on what other KZreadrs do, I see these as videos by me and for me. Plus... I am disappointed with this game.
@@ElephantsDoingCrack I don't believe you. When you saw Slipgates name on it, you knew precisely what to expect.
kzread.info/dash/bejne/a3-tp5duec_ffLg.html
Change your vid name to say "Slipgate Ironworks" or you're going to quite rightly, get yourself a lot of well deserved hate
It doesn't sound as good and plus I do address them. That is how I feel
Aftershock took a long time to make, just like Ion Fury did, because it's a very small team of modders working with an extremely out of date engine who's level editor is a nightmare to work with. Obviously it's going to take a long time to make anything under those conditions. I don't see why that would ever be a "red flag".
More of a small flag and not much of a problem, I was more or less explaining how the build up to Phantom Fury was like
Why are you so cynical?
Cause the game was rushed out the door and 3D Realms/Slipgate has been nothing but disappointment
Tis a shame how PF turned out but given slipgate/nu-3dr track record it's not all that surprising, one thing that another comment pointed out is that the nu 3dr is not the same one that made duke3d and shadow warrior, these guys just use the name to trick people Into thinking they are the ones who made those classics tho in their defense its probably a decision made solely by Frederik schrieber, that guy is a total weasel. Nu 3dr also had nothing to do with ion fury or aftershock outside of publishing, voidpoint did all the work and from what I've been told it got delayed because of 2 reasons, one is they were never full time devs so they worked on it whenever they had free time and also the pandemic was still a thing so that threw a wrench into their plans. Back to PF though I was really hoping it would turn to be good, when I saw the first trailer I was hyped for the most part however I personally wasnt all that thrilled to see blade, just felt like total nostalgia bait and nothing more, was great to hear Eric mills voice again though. Anyways back to PF again, I always wanted a game like PF to come out during this retro fps trend, ever since dusk started this trend I was hoping we could get some half likes or even SiN likes eventually, i was expecting them to start popping up around 2020 to 2021 but nah we were still stuck on these generic quake and doom clones or games that were more like doom eternal rather than the typical shooter that came out in the 90s, but then PF comes out of nowhere and I was super hyped because now were getting half likes that were long overdue but sadly when it finally came out, it turns out to be really average to below average. Boy aint that a kick in head, there was a good game in their but then thanks to 3dr infinite wisdom of starting a bunch of projects all at same time, PF didnt get the time it needed in the oven to be good.
GREAT COMMENT! One of the things that really sucked about Blade being in it is that it is like 30 seconds long. Like that is it? Last time we saw Blade was 2006 and he is just gone like that for no reason. I still remember what one of my anonymous sources that worked at Ritual said about this a long time ago: "The added kick in the nuts is seeing this creative IP, one which this original team pour so much of themselves into now in the hands of others who haven’t had their first original thought." Like... Damn this hits even harder for me now. It is just sad and depressing
You won't complain about every 2000's shooter being an awful Half-Life clone right?
@@DrundeFPS depends on the game in question, if its half life 2 for instance then yes i will complain because i think its pretty mid, outside of good visuals and physics that was it, enemy variety, shooting, weapons, all of it was a step down from its predescessor however on the flip side you have prey 2006, which is fucking awesome, it had a somewhat interesting plot, tommy was a fun protagonist, the weapons were creative, the portals and spirit walk were fun mechanics, all of it added up to an amazing game.
I might get this one only on a giveaway or something, 3DRealms doesn't deserve my hard earned cash.
If you get it for free than yeah you can't complain too much. I spent money and then refunded it.
One of the coolest things about Postal Brain Damaged to me is that they brought the OG VA back to boice the alternate personality. He refers to himself as a demon, which is what hes credited as voicing in postal 1(not fredited as the dude, but a sepetate entity)
It is a very cool detail
Agreed, the initial trailer got me so hyped for this but its a massive let down. It has glimmers of something special but ultimately ends up feeling like it was rushed.
I think the game looks hood haha but the criticisms are legit.
Correction, but very important for context: This is NOT Duke Nukem's 3D Realms. The brand was bought by Interceptor Entertainment (Now Slipgate Ironworks) in 2014 and pretty much turned into their publishing branch. Both 3DR and Slipgate are pretty much the same company, simply working under stolen valor without any of the people that built the name back in the 90s. One of the original co-founders has revived the Apogee brand, the name used before the 3D Realms name took over with Duke Nukem 3D, and they've been doing better. They were initially working with Interceptor as well, but they haven't been involved with them for a few years. They have recently published hits like Turbo Overkill and Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, so I think that company is where we should keep our eyes on.
I remember be told the first half and I completely agree man. That is the thing with time, just cause the name was on a game almost 3 decades ago doesn't mean it's the same people. Names are just that... names. For some people, that is easy to forget. Thank you for all of your input and comment! That last info was very interesting and I didn't even think about it.
I was about to say pretty much the same thing, but you beat me to it. :)
Wizordum is a banger too. Really good. Includes a very intuitive level editor as well
@@deemster4249 Damn I gotta play that sooner rather than later, thanks for reminding me
hell yeah
I hope this is a hunt down the Freeman story, because with the original hunt down the Freeman, the original devs were actually trying to slowly fix and bring back the game. (I am only talking about the OWF build of the game) maybe if Phantom Fury gets the same treatment, we could see a redemption story
I am doubtful of it happening. But hey, I want them to prove me wrong and hope so too.
Bruh
Hunt down the freeman is an unsalvageable turd. Will never get a redemption lol.
I mean, wrath aeon of ruin is pretty damn good so there's that at least...I guess?
Unfortunately still a bit of a botched product, with the entire situation of its direction falling apart and it losing the lead developer. There's a reason Episode 1 is the most cohesive and the rest took so long to get made. The game had so much more potential which sadly has been squandered, although it at least settled into something decent anyway. Wonder if they'll ever get to match this quality again?
Great to see you! From what I know, I remember playing the first Episode 1 and liking it, but apparently the lead dev left and the game feels different with each episode because they got other people to do them. Ruby Ranger I know is making a video on Wrath at the moment so maybe there will be more context when it comes out.
@@ElephantsDoingCrack I felt the opposite. The game was a bit repetitive in the first episode then got a lot better as it went on. The full game's out, just a quake clone at heart. It's a pretty good one. The mixed reviews likely are coming from the long development cycle and lack of updates from the devs.
Most likely yeah
people give others shit for liking it but i still think it's a competent shooter, it's only negative just BECAUSE of how long we waited and the pedigree of the talent behind it who left. it's a solid 8 still if i had to give it a rating tbh
Also, FIRST (like)!

The 3D Realms that pubbed Ion (and Phantom) Fury is located in Denmark and belongs to Saber Interactive. Btw it belonging to Saber morally barriers me from buying anything from Saber-owned 3D Realms and other studios Saber owns(I won't disclose it publicly).
Hmm, I don't know of any Saber controversy.
@@Deadforge There isn't. It's just one office that barriers me and many friends from buying Saber games. We've been worried that they were likely to take 4A (Metro Devs) with them, but gladly that didn't happen.

Is that an AI voice of Rick Hunter reading the basic intros to each level? It sounds absolutely on-par, like it was always intended he'd voiceover them
Yes it is an AI (elvenlabs). It was a really cool thing to do and I'm proud with the results Just for the record, I don't endorse AI and only use it for entertainment purposes.

That should be the Postal 2 title
Oh man, no idea how I've never heard of Arena Blast, especially considering I still have pretty much all of the real blasters they used. I sure as hell wish the Pulsator was actually that cool in reality 😂 I should also add that the animations are way better than they have any right to be, actually using the pumps and seeing barrel flips was not something I would've thought they'd bother with. I love Chex Quest to death but I didn't expect to leave this video wanting to play a Nerf game
Nerf Arena Blast is the fucking goat. I used to get bitches when playing it back in the day.
