Before anyone asks me in the comments, yes I do plan on talking about the Postal 1 expansion pack "Special Delivery" as well as the Japanese port with it's two extra levels. This was probably the darkest and most fun I have ever had while making a video. It was suppose to come out on the 30th of October, but I didn't meet that deadline. So I decided to just have two videos for Halloween because I love the hoilday to death. Hell I even dressed up as Postal 1 Dude just for this video alone. Vince Desi actually specifically draws a line at harming children, that was the entire reason they're invincible actually, to show you the game _wasn't_ going to go there.

Postal terrifies me. Not many people understand what psychosis is- and this game feels like something all too real. Someone who has been stressed to the point that they are at the very end of their patience and sanity- suddenly snapping irreversibly. It feels influenced by something inhuman. Something we might know, but don’t want to acknowledge. I don’t know how else to describe it. The art work is beyond terrifying and has that feeling of “I shouldn’t be here” when you see any of the loading screens.

i have early signs of psychosis ( tame for now dalylight allucinations , voices like murmuring , dettachment from reality , etc the only thing that gives docs hope is that i´m very calm and collected ,quite diplomatic they say so it´s probably just stress ...maybe? )and postal is way tooo familiar for me , love the postal games regardless though

Maybe just anger/hate because the world sucks too. I feel that. I have a silent demon in me, my anger. Earth is hungry must mean you are hungry for violence. Anyway, the real plot is just the town is crazy and you kill to survive. Postal 2 is that. Also the movie.

You see The Dude wielding an AK in a lot of promotional material, like in the Postal 1 black and white picture of The Dude, the Postal 2 Dude holding it in the Share the Pain boxart, that one wierd old mobile game shows more of the same, Redux artwork shows The Dude, AGAIN, with an AK, etc. Yet... no official Postal game has an AK until Postal 4... game where the same gun i'm reffering to is named and modeled after an AKM, not an AK-47.

I certainly agree that postal 1 wasn't trying to be edgy, it tried to be a traumatizing experience, and it succeeded, but at the cost of being a little edgy in my opinion

Postal 1 is probably the best example of a extreme tone shift, It like a band that does edgy comedic Noise rock but their first album is Noisy Dark Ambient.

I find it funny that half of the horror games don't scare me but postal 1 exists and its unironically disturbing, some other games like Hatred tried to be the next "postal 1" but failed so horribly that they added the main character from hatred in postal redux and made fun of the game. And quite honestly, there will never be another game like the original postal.

I like to think that postal dude's mass genocidal crusade did happen all the way to the Air Force Base. And his dwindling sanity snapped and had mental breakdown. Which caused him hallucinate the elementary school. Also the ending dialogue confirms it all happened. "Population pressure and the stress of modern life may cause an increase in violent tendencies. The urban environment is the incubator for all sorts of undesirable behaviors. However much this atrocity disgusts us, he may actually consider himself a hero. This is common among those who are referred to by the popular slang, going postal. In his tortured mind, he may feel he was battling against impossible odds. It is not unusual for some individuals to believe that the entire fate of the world rests in their palm. In the end, our subject displays all the classic symptoms of a paranoid delusional. We may never know exactly what set him off but, rest assured, we will have plenty of time to study him."

Phenomenal video essay, your additions the entries really help visualize the horror of watching the actions some broken beyond saving. While I do like the demon theory and it has its appeals I think the best interpretation is just pure acceptance. Postal dude was truly just someone having a breakdown, straggling on to hope of a solution, a break from horrors of the universe. What makes it truly horrifying is not the thought of the human spirit breaking, but what it will resort to in order to maintain hope.

One of the coolest things about Postal Brain Damaged to me is that they brought the OG VA back to boice the alternate personality. He refers to himself as a demon, which is what hes credited as voicing in postal 1(not fredited as the dude, but a sepetate entity)

Great game , I had got the first postal game for my switch , it’s really awesome 👏 and creepy , by the way , the postal 1 dude is actually the father of the postal 2 dude . When you go to the grave sit in postal 2 , it will show postal 1 dude sir grave , meaning that the postal 1 dude sir killed himself in the mentally ill hospital . It’s also hinted in postal 1 that the postal 1 dude was mentally ill and I also believe that the game hinted at the postal 1 dude being possessed by a demon or a evil entity .

it's funny you mentioned the first game being more horrifying than most horror games nowadays, i'm actually planning on making a video essay on the potential this series had to become a horror franchise before p2. it's so depressing thinking about the ideas that could have been implemented, but simply were just changed to be more comedic in tone. i'm glad postal 4 and brain damaged are finally starting to bring some horror back into this franchise if even a little bit, especially since i consider og postal to be "faux-horror" and the rest to simply be action-comedy "edgy" shooter games that give the vibes of diet 4chan/diet reddit. as for the top-down perspective, if ya hated this then _hoo boy_ i know you'd hate hotline miami lmao

4:45. Correct. Postal was banned in Australia. However. It was and still available on Steam back when it was called: Postal 2 Complete in 2012. Check the list of banned games in Australia wiki. EDIT. (April 22nd, 2024). As of April 18th, Postal 2 has been delisted from Steam in Australia, days before its 21st anniversary. And just another day or 2 later Postal 4 has also been delisted too. Reasons? Unknown.

I mean the whole point of the marching band was purely for laughing at how loud all the stacked up screams are. this is what separates Hatred, its very clear they were just trying to take the edginess even further but without the humour and personality of postal

Its more of a matter of if you really want to or not. The game actually works fine now and can mostly play it without crashes (from my experience). It's not as bad as some people make it out to be, but I do put it at the bottom of list.
