Let's Talk About Postal Redux

Ойындар

Having suffered the endless torment of Keiji Inafune and Mediocre Man, Noah Campbell, man most likely to forget how to breath, snaps and decides to gun down countless innocent virtual lives in Postal Redux. Oh, and of course, he will share his thoughts while he's doing so because Noah
regrets nothing and, well, it would be weird if he followed up a review-type video with a gameplay only one. It's called Let's Talk About for a reason.
Take note, the script for this video is just a tinsy bit out of date. Postal Redux
on Switch, Postal 4: No Regerts, and Brain Damaged weren't actualities by the time I finished audio recording for the script, but they were around the time I got to editing. This mostly affects the History Tab, as I would've brought up the Switch release, No Regerts, and Brain Damaged, and the Overall section. SPOILER WARNING: I advise getting Postal Redux on either PC or Switch. Also, once again, this is a rough video. It's okay if you have secondhand embarrassment from it because I have firsthand.

Normally I hate when a remake or update changes the story of a game, especially if it completely changes some element due to controversy. However, changing Postal's final level is one I understand and support. The developers have said when they first designed it, it was meant to be this really edgy and horrible thing, a scene so gruesome it's unimaginable, before faking you out. probably just a concession of level design and representative levels. An example of this is Duke Nukem, which has places like a movie theater, a strip club, etc. While Doom takes the opposite route: Levels are just vague hallways and rooms with decorations to invoke the feeling of "industrial" or "techbase" Nukem's is easier to understand + navigate and the Doom way lets (hypothetically, let's be honest there are some shit levels in DOOM II) the creator focus on gameplay and create fantastical environments where walls collapse and bridges raise from the ground

Sometimes I wonder why KZread will recommend me things that I have to scroll over for half an hour but wait for 2 years with something that I actually find interesting. I myself, as probably many others, played Postal 2 first (in 2014, I was 12 at time so I most likely shouldn't have, but for one I am somehow still not a mass murderer, and two: by the time I grew up and finally understood the satire behind it, I just came to appreciate how over the top and completely self-aware it all was. Bottom-line is I love that game and the "Steme" store inside it was my first exposure to the first installment back in 2016. Now, fast forward to 2022. Similar commentary videos about Postal 1 and Redux are popping up in my recommended feed. Every single one claimed that this game is a lot darker, at the time I was not in that state of mind, I did not watch them. This year in the spring I replayed Postal 2 and seeing that they had a sale, fired up, I decided to buy all *3* existing mainline games and Brain Damaged. I heard that the game was short so I decided to get ready and than beat the entire game in one sitting, no breaks, on hard difficulty. I read every single war journal, examined the really good looking loadscreens and as the game wanted mowed down everyone and everything that moved. First half of the game I was having a blast as I genuinely thought (and still think) that it's a good isometric shooter at face value. However after the first half this feeling started creeping over me. Not boredom, especially not in the midgame, I was struggling actually, the game is quite hard, but every single level passed I was like "do I WANT to do this?". Not in the way like someone transforming into the nutcase portrayed in the game, but as someone who disagrees with what he's doing. Approaching the final levels, I managed to get over the hurdles and actually learned how to be aware of my and the enemy's positioning and as the levels became easier, my mind had more time to be occupied with how disgusted I was, I guess, I don't even know what I felt. After typing this absolute chonker of a comment I am realizing that I can't describe what I felt other than a certain disconnect. Again I loved the game but I guess felt some kind of hate toward the experience (?). I really don't know. And I don't know if the devs planned this, but it just ended up in my mind as a unique experience. Obviously the original ending would have been the cherry on top, but still the dry narration of this doctor dude along with the artwork and the sound effects... The only thing I could think of was: "Yea, that's about the ending I deserve". After listening to the distant bizarre droning background sounds and the gunshots and the screaming... Again, I don't know if it was just my conscience, regardless if they were virtual people (just noticing that I - without paying attention - addressed them as "they") or the devs actually planned it but they succeeded in creating a truly unique thing. Thanks if you've read through this mess, after watching the video I was reminded that I never really told this little story to anyone, despite the strong feelings the game invoked and suddenly felt the need to get this out of me. It really is a game that everyone should play once or at least people who played Postal 2. It is really cool in itself but I think it holds even more value as a contrasting piece to Postal 2. Man the amount of shit I wrote down... I really could have made my own video on this lmao

The co-op ending is actually not the 4 dudes breaking the main guy out. They're actually out to kill him. In the dialogue quote when booting the "Home" Level, the journal says, "On this day, the demons have brought us together, so that each may help to strike out against the man". The "man" which being Postal Dude is how the game calls him. They go through all of the levels, get to the asylum and the ending is them either killing the main guy, or the main guy managed to somehow kill the other 4 guys because of his Mad Rambo-Rage Tier Killing skills.

I like to think of it as being the opposite. Easy/normal show what the dude actually wrote in his journal, showcasing his depersonification into the "demon" persona (or actual demonic possession depending on the interpretation of events) while the hard/nightmare difficulty shows what Postal Dude _thinks_ he wrotes in his journal, appearing scared, paranoid, and on the defense against everyone else in town.

Yeah, the story of postal is "man goes crazy and kills everyone" Wich also could be.. Man has a voice telling him everyone wants him dead , gets an eviction notice, so he starts to see everyone as threats and goes into a rampage, until he's confronted with shooting kids (or a funeral depending the release), he can't take it anymore and finally gives up. Your description could also be given to Hatred... Hatred, beyond the gameplay is conceptually such a worse game because the character has zero dimention. Not important just hates everyone. Postal dude is a increasingly disturbed man who isn't in the verge of abyss, and as a cope mechanism lives in a delirium where everyone wants him dead. Hatred guy hates everyone.

that isn't really true at all considering postal 2 has been added to after postal 3 with expansions better than the base game as well as brain damaged. 4 was just mediocre with 4 being the only real bad game. I'd say postal 2 is better than the original as while the first has a great mood postal 2 is one of the greatest satirical games ever made

The dude (at least from Postal 1) looks to be in his mid-late 20s, so that probably rules out that he served in Vietnam. I do like to think he served in the Gulf War since it does sort of fit into the same timeframe, and the actions of that war (as well as the existence of Gulf War syndrome that caused many health issues in soldiers that fought in the conflict) could partly explain why he went "postal"

There is a strong message behind, read the diary entries, think a bit for yourself, if you played the game you'd know you don't even have to kill non hostile NPCs, the game is played through the protagonists "imagination", it's an unreliable version of the real events, he did commit a murder spree, but as the ending and many other things suggest it's not exactly how it went down, and as the diary entries suggest he might've been in the military or as the ending suggests he might've been possessed by a demon or "the player", and acted only as bad as the person controlling him wanted to, there's a lot to learn from this meta-massacre game, especially the first ending where you cannot harm any of the children and you realise you're going insane/it's all in your head, why does the player see a bunch of kids and instantly want to shoot them? I see you missed the point of this game entirely
