    Every record I buy goes on my VC-S2 with record cleaning solution as soon as I get them home. Used records get 2 complete cycles since I have no idea how they were taken care of, New ones get 1 cycle to remove any gunk left from the pressing plant. I use my Zero Stat & vintage Discwasher every time they are played as a touch-up. I clean my stylus before playing each side & after I am done playing records for the day just in case I forget next time. It might be over kill but records I bought 40 years ago still sound like new even though some of them have been played hundreds of times. Just my 2 cents. Great video btw. I have been binge watching since I found your channel & agree with most of what I've seen. Lots of good info! Keep 'em comming.

    Do these kind of machines actually work. we have records that go back to the late 1960s and they do not have scratches on them but they have crazy static that we just cannot remove no matter what we do. will these type of machines help with that. thanks for any suggestions.

    Really poor decision idea to use background music when explaining the editing process.... would have been far more useful to demonstrate what the effect of your editing was by actually playing back the track you were working on.

    Stupid Question. I have a Denon AVR 1100 and it has a phono stage. The problem is it has the volume but not the sound quality. So if I buy a phono stage like Fosi is it actually going to improve my sound quality? Like maybe give me sound closer to a vintage amp?

    2 reasons I (slowly and lightly) guide my brush towards the center label: 1) To prevent the inevitable line of dust left at the spot where you lift the brush straight up (as recommended here). 2) By touching the brush fibres against the center spindle it should discharge any static build-up since the turntable should be grounded. I think the risk of damaging a record by lightly guiding soft bristles across the surface is negligible unless your record is really dirty- in that case you should be cleaning it beforehand.

    I'm nearly 70 years old. I had perfect hearing back in my younger years, and was bit of an audiophile. And I can assure you that once we heard even digital recording to make a vinyl record (Ry Cooder's "Bop Til You Drop"), we were astounded and excited to look forward to the introduction of CDs. I was in the best audio shop in the area the first time I heard that record, and I can assure you it was used to demo the merchandize in that shop for a very long time. I'm sorry, but those who say CDs sound better than vinyl are absolutely correct, and it is not even close. Virtually no noise floor, better dynamics, better detail, easier to use, no mechanical degradation - need I go on? Are there lousy sounding CDs? Absolutely! Just like there are poorly produced LPs. But if YOU are into vinyl, that is perfectly cool - I was into vinyl for a very long time. And I appreciate the vinyl albums of yesteryear - today it is often difficult to hear that material on CD, because it has been remixed and has added tracks which are usually subpar. And, there IS a lot to be said about the enjoyment of the physical process of playing a record. Enjoy your hobby!

    It may be that you’ve disturbed some stubborn grime in the grooves or residue from some dodgy record cleaner from years ago. Tough to say, but try multiple cleans to see if it improves. The downside of a record bath is the water gets dirty with multiple record cleans, of course. Changing the water more regularly will help

    Another great video Thanks for sharing!!! I like both record fairs & stores, thrift shops Etc.. For 1 some records stores( here in N.Y. USA) as you mention do have listing stations (which I usually only use to make sure the record is not warped!! I like the element of surprise when I get home. Mostly getting stuff I never heard of..) Record stores once you shop there used bins you have to wait a few weeks or a month for a turn over rate on there records . Meaning you have wait for them to put out new stuff. This also depends on how how busy is the store? The same goes for Thrift stores, Flee markets & junk shops etc... On the other hand Record fairs come up 1 a month in different spots & different venders come out with different stuff each time.. This also depends (for me) on whether or not it's Indoors or Outdoors, If it's out doors I have to get there early & I make sure there is no heat coming off the top of the crate. This means the record might be warped? Some venders don't have tents covering there records which to me is bad. As for record stores here in New York / Long Island & the city USA, Human Head records in Brooklyn has a great $2 bin (= 1.56 pounds). Infinity records in Massapequa N.Y has a great $1.00 bin ( =0.78 pound) & Mr Cheapo's in Commack N.Y Just to Name a few.. As for Record fairs The Long Island Music Lovers fair is good they do it 1 a month, Some radio stations have a fair 1 a year like the WPKN in Bridgeport Connecticut or the WFMU radio station in N.J they do there Big 2 day show (This is the show I like the best it's in N.Y.C 250+ hundred venders who come out). Not to mention there WFMU table has a great $1.00 bin =0.78 pounds , Last year I came home with almost 60 records from there $1.00 bin.. not to mention what else I bought & that was just on the first day... Let me know what you think! Enjoy your Day & Happy Spinning!!!

    The biggest trouble I find with streaming is you have a phone in your hand. I don’t think I’ve listened to a full track yet. Playing an LP on my lovely system whilst drinking a glass of wine is everything to me. I listen to the full album and enjoy every minute of it. Great vid by the way.

    I've noticed a trend lately in the records stores: streaming. They always play music in the ones I go to and I was surprised to find out that they were not playing a record but streaming music. I mean I get it the convenience etc, playing the latest album without having to open a sealed copy etc.. but come on, this is a record store, play some records, don't you think? I've noticed it here in Reno in the US but also in the south of France where I was in March.. Sometimes you hear something you like and you can ask for the record, what's going to happen then: oh you can find it on Spotify?

  • @soundmatters
    @soundmatters4 күн бұрын

    Yeah, that does seem counterintuitive. Playing an actual record can start conversations, too, and probably encourage sales! (On a side note: the south of France is a beautiful place)

    I have the Oyaide BR12 mat, which is conical in shape (1° angle). So i need a min. 300g weight to flatten the record to the surface. Works perfect, every waved record is flat and has maximum contact with the mat. This helps a lot against static charge! Always had problems with espacially one cartridge, the Denon DL 110. No problems any more since i have this mat - and with this mat a weight (or good holding clamp) is a must - otherwise the record only touches the edge of the mat. Works on my belt driven player as well as on my DD. So you see, i have a good reason for using a weight - and yes, it looks cool :-)

    I used to live In Letchworth, and David's has had a lot of my money over the years. It's a good shop. The new records are separate from the secondhand, which is really useful for me. I love record fairs. There are often some bargains to be had. My tip? Find the guy who isn't a dealer, just someone selling their private collection. He will be open to offers. His wife has probably told him to shift the records or they will go down the dump! Also, don't buy brand new records at fairs; they are probably fake. I've been caught out a few times. Nice video! I could chat about fairs for ages!

    The MoFi's I bought in the late 70's are pressed on heavy vinyl & they feel and play better than the regular pressings that I own. Not saying that the heavy vinyl makes them sound better just that I have never had one warp. That for ME is a reason to buy heavy vinyl. I never could stand a record that flexed & bowed when I took it out of the sleeve, looking at you Dyna-Flex.

    I use the Analog Relax brush; costly, but I much prefer it over carbon fibre to eliminate static. Brushes are NOT for PRIMARY cleaning. First, stop kidding yourself (as I did) you know better, and rig up an ultrasonic bath. Can't adequately stress its primacy in reducing noise. Second, when cleaned, keep vinyl in good inner sleeve. If you have the Relax brush, before playing, touch the brush against the vinyl per their instructions. Before and after playing, lightly draw the brush across the spinning vinyl and then away from the outside edge. Lastly, I flick the brush clean each time against (shock horror) my hand. Refine these things if you wish, but the above gives me fantastic results.
