Classic Albums: Fleetwood Mac - VMP Essentials Reissue

Музыка

The release of Fleetwood Mac's self-titled album in 1975 saw the band move distinctly away from their British blues roots. The arrival of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham symbolized more than a change in personnel; it heralded the birth of a sound that would become iconic.
Fleetwood Mac is the end of Bob Welch's era of the band and the beginning of the longest-lasting classic pop-rock lineup behind Rumours (still one of the greatest albums of all time).
VMP (Vinyl Me Please) have released Fleetwood Mac's classic "white album" as their Essentials record of the month. Join us for another installment of Sound Matters Classic Albums.

Tusk does sound great on vinyl! An acquired taste that album. Tango in the Night is very 80s, but I love it for what it is

Songbird and silver springs for me. I only have rumours & The dance in my vinyl collection. When the dance came out in the late 90’s it was “go your own way” that influenced my decision to leave wales & move to London for new adventures. This album holds a place in my heart now as I later met my wife and started a family. This would never of happened if it were not for fleetwood mac. I lost my wife to cancer in April and have taken a lot of comfort in my grief from Songbird, Landslide, silver springs to name a few. It’s funny as my parents loved Fleetwood Mac, I do also and my kids are beginning to know the songs and like their music. That’s a testament to their talent that they reach three generations.❤

The Dance is fantastic. I was a bit obsessed with that DVD back in the early 2000s. Thanks for sharing your story. I'm so sorry to hear about your wife - treasure the memories and every moment with your children. I too inherited my love for Fleetwood Mac from my parents. All the best, Marc.

Back in October of '95 for my 11th birthday, after being familiar with the classic Mac albums because of my dad who had this album, Rumours and Mirage on vinyl with Tusk and Tango In The Night on CD, and not to mention being a young fan of the music, I wanted these albums on CD for myself. After being given Rumours on CD as well as what ended up being Led Zeppelin IV because it had the 3 songs that my dad had on a mix tape from somewhere (Stairway..., Black Dog and R&R) I used whatever birthday money I had to go to an awesome music store (Silver Platters in Tukwila, WA) and ended up buying this very album on CD which happened to be the very first CD I ever bought. So these really ended up being my very first CD's. I knew these were great albums, but I had no idea just how great at the time!!! Safe to say my CD and vinyl collection have gone a long way since then... I definitely will look out for this rerelease!

Thanks for sharing that story. I knew Rumours before this and sought out this album off the back of it. Similar to you, on CD at the time. It's a nice release of this. Sounds really good

I didn't know much at all about them. I like Stevie stuff but sounds like there's a lot to explore.

Great record Mark. I was lucky enough to unearth a 2012 RSD version of this album. Mastered by one B Grundman esq. at 45rpm and pressed at Pallas. Cost a bl@@dy fortune but so worth it!

Keith Olson retired in a small city in Nevada called Genoa. I never knew until one my wife told me that one of her patients passed away (March 2020) and he was a music producer Intrigued, I pressured her a little to know more and she told me he worked with Fleetwood Mac. I made the connection real quick (she would never tell me any names) and boy was I sad... if I had known before, I would have asked her to arrange a meeting. I would have loved to meet the man and maybe hear some of his stories.. At the same time, maybe he would have brushed me away as so many people probably bothered him about it ... Anyway, Rest In Peace Mr Olson.

I’ve got the WalMart exclusive White vinyl pressing of this album. I had the Reprise cassette (a later issue, not the first run), and noticed that there were several songs that didn’t sound like what I heard on the radio. (“Say You Love Me” having a more noticeable Banjo!)

@@soundmatters sounds great! Certainly better than the cassette, and has the correct mixes as well. I’ll have to pull it out and see who did the cutting and mastering, for that matter! All I saw, other than the catalog numbers (both US and International), in the deadwax is what looks like CB there. Couldn’t find anything more than that. The cutting person is not even credited on Discogs.

I love this album, but it's really topped by Rumours. Unfortuantly, I think from there on there is a steady decline in the albums released (still lots of great stuff though) - apart from Tusk, which I also love, but for some reason appear to be in the minority! The early Fleetwood years with Peter Green however, should not be ignored - different to the popular Fleetwood sound but excellent in my view and probably my favourites!

I like this Fleetwood Mac album as much as Rumors and maybe even a little more. I went ahead and signed up for VMP with the one album a month account. I wanted to get this record so I did. I also wanted to get the album by Heart, Little Queen, so I added that "Track" to my VMP order also. It didn't allow me to use my 20% off or $10 off of $50 or more codes though. Any idea why? It's hard for me to see with my vision issues and maybe I did something wrong or missed something. I sure would have enjoyed getting the 20% off of $88 though. I'm going to try to contact VMP if I can figure out how to do it. How do I drop the apparent 2 albums a month now from VMP? I wouldn't mind staying on with one album a month but I definitely don't want to pay them $88 per month or lemoore for two albums. It did say that I could cancel at any time but I would like to keep the month to month deal but just with one album and not two. It's kind of strange the way this works until you understand it I guess? Brian and Fort Worth 🎶

Hey Brian! Thanks for your addition. It's a super album. I don't have any agreement with VMP for a partner discount code unfortunately. I may get in touch with them and see if they can sort one. You'll have to go into your account settings to unsubscribe from whichever one you don't want. The good thing is, if you don't like the release of one "track" on a particular month, they give you the chance to swap for another option from the other series. I.e swap Essentials for Classics, for example.

I think the backstory to the album in many ways is more interesting than the album itself. Rumours is overrated, as far as I’m concerned, as there are albums I enjoy listening to from start to finish, and this isn’t one of them.Vinyl? I have a Technics SL-110, but I’d never choose to listen to Rumours on vinyl. Clicks, pops and all the rest of the noise that infects vinyl playback, no thanks. I’m more interested in the Atmos mix. From listening to it on Tidal the way the vocals and instruments have been mixed has brought a new clarity to the production.
