Khanlusa

A place for me to talk about video game stories and games in general.

Rumours of my power to functionally change the video games industry have been greatly exaggerated.

A fantastic video as always. If I can throw in my ideas for game rewrites: For FEAR 1 I would go with most of the same things, but I would make Point Man and Paxton Fettel younger, and make Fettel look even more haggered, like someone who aged 2 days for every day lived. I would also have Norton Mapes not just be a weasel but one that works with another weapons development corporation m trying to sell their Armacham secrets, that also throws in corporate mercs into that section for a bit of a 3 way fights with the replica soldiers. For FEAR 2, I make Michael Becket is much older, about the same age as Elma, because I would make him a former classmate of her, and her interest in him is about her trying to get you to safely from Armacham as she recognizes him but still thinking of him as her fellow school kid; he of course doesn't for the longest time since remembering a kid you went to school for maybe 2 years over 30 years ago, is a bit hard. Also add more things that corporations like Armacham aren't rare, maybe even Genevieve Aristide rant to you at end how she won't let her corporation be taken from by some hostile take over, just for Harlans failure etc. For FEAR 3 is basically so open, everything goes. Could even be about a whole other paranormal event that needs the FEAR team with Point Man still haunted/protected by Elma.

i played this game a while ago and it's crazy bc i've never seen anyone else talk about it or know what it is LOL. the game advertises itself on being a "sexual horror" game, but doesn't deliver on that at all. having a boring horror game with a backdrop of naked people having sex does NOT mean you're portraying sex in a horrifying way or exploring sex through horror. god. NOT TO MENTION; at least for me, I found the puzzles to be very glitchy (had to reload saves often) and extremely not straight forward, leading to a frustrating, boring gameplay experience when it isn't just a walking simulator

KZread being a dick and notifying me a whole DAY after a new video is criminal, especially with how much I've been binge watching everything else. The FuhThreeUr trilogy is one of my current hyper fixations, so I look forward to editing/updating this later once I've watched it three times.

If I'm being honest, I don't know if 'FEAR 2 but make the textual rape gay instead' is necessarily an _improvement._

The FEAR games (1 and 2) are probably on my top 10 favourite games of all time. They are brutal, gorgeous to look at, play very well and they do not pull any punches when it comes to horror. Few games have scared me so much as the first two, both when it comes to genuine jumpscares, but also oozing atmosphere and delving into psychological horror elements. I know the second game is infamous for it's ending. I was never too bothered by it, because I was already in the mindset of the absolutely fucked up setting the player was thrust into. Up until that point the game had shocked you around every corner, and not just with the horror elements. They really drove home just how horrible Armacham were, just when you thought they could not be any worse, you got gut-punched with the next chapter of Alma's life. However it feels like the ending was just forced to up the shock factor, and pave way for another cliffhanger. Which feels a bit disappointing. You want to have a good ending after all that you've suffered through, both for yourself and for Alma and Point Man. Where everyone involved with tormenting her get what they deserve and she can be at peace. Instead we get the edge-fest that is FEAR 3. Oh well. It has good parts, but is mostly inferior to 1 and 2. Oh, and I would absolutely love to play your reimagining of the games. Sounds like it would be amazing.

I don't know anything about Lana beyond what you just told me, but as one of the three people who liked Vergere in the EU, I love her already. KOTOR II is my favorite Star War because of all the gray choices. And the idea that the Jedi Order was basically rebuilt single-handedly by someone so traumatized she gave the Force itself PTSD, and yet managed to help that many people with their problems... Chef kiss.

The gun play and ai of this game is so good! The way the enemies actually respond to you and where you are with call outs, flanking, grenades when best etc, it was an amazing experience.

I am so incredibly appreciative and comforted by the gracefulness that you deftly employ to cover such severe topics as you have. As a now man who has been the victim to abuse, it is so incredibly difficult to be treated seriously. It's definitely become less difficult in recent years, but.. thank you. You're fantastic, and I hope that you're at 100K before Christmas. Its not an if, its a when. I'm doing my part!

The attention to sexual appeal is very strange to me, especially in a title like this which is focused on gory visceral deaths. I find it deeply discomforting to be in the gory slashing and ripping, and then the game to be like "But look at this sexy lady! You're horny now right!?"

As fucked as the second game is her fixation on a male is explainable as a weird revenge against the father that did a similar thing. It was so fucked up to force it, not even allude it ether but just force it.

I remember the ending entirely because it was the point of which I went. “ oh this is just bullshit.” And turned off the game. It made me realise that the game I had been playing with just a badly made awkward mess imitating something I had loved.

Ya know when it came to f.e.a.r while I knew that it was mostly praised for how good the ai was for the enemies when to the general gameplay with your brother and mom being the reason for why most of the plot happens (in current day) goddamn Alma's story is fucking depressing typically I wouldn't side with the paranormal entity in this scenario I can't exactly blame her for lashing out and yeah I've never needed a fictional dad to bite through curb as bad as Almas father

The issue with F2's ending is the same as that one ending in Far Cry 4? Where you choose to stay, go through a drug trip and get raped by one of the main NPCs. There's no buildup. No established tone. Nothing. Its the purest and cheapest of shock value. Game of Thrones makes it clear what you're gonna see beforehand. Besides the 18+ rating and those tags, it shows you tits and violence. You see this world is cruel and they won't shy away from horrible events. F2 is an action/horror game. You know you're gonna see scary shit and shoot dudes. At no point is it alluded to what Alma wants to do to you. There's no easing in or hinting at her plans. You just get jumped and that's the BIG REVEAL. Its basically "it was all a dream", but infinitely disgusting

You mean Far Cry 3. After you kill your friends and stay on the island Cintra doesn't quite rape Jason as this time he was lucid and consenting, she does stab him in the heart following their romp. The first time though Cintra rapes Jason as he's in a drug vision before he goes off to kill Vaas.

As a male survivor of SA but someone who is entirely (and obviously) untrained in literary critique, Fear always struck me as the last flagship series that genuinely tried to reach outside the "comfort" of the American Gaming zeitgeist to tell a horror story that would actually cause emotional impact on a player. Like the classic Lovecraft stories that touched every corner of trauma and not just 'boo-spooky monsters', showing that not only the characters but also the reader (or in this instance the player) are truly powerless in the face of actual horror. The only way to hold on to power being to "stop playing" before the monster shows up. Giving us an entirely different form of existential nightmares and a proper appreciation of our present existence, knowing that one day a power we have no hope of stopping will take this all away from us. The monster is usually just Death itself, but sometimes its an elder god, or a rapey ghost woman. Now the only time any horror gaming experience outside of just jump scares or pornographic gore its comparatively micro-dev indy gaming and/or packed with the Disney messaging of good always defeats evil regardless of the powers at work. Off topic- Congratulations on the growth! You do great work here and the perspective is illuminating, finally locking in a sub to follow along the channel.

my rewrite of fear would return the origional idea of it being an episodic anthology with every past story giving a "ghost-friend" that would help the player in the next story. Fear 1 would be the story of alma, in my version the changes would be: pointman was not just transferred to fear, but actively intercepted by them. "saved" from armachem's boot-camp where the abuse was mid-happening and mid-rescue after paxton tapped into his psychic powers to send out an SOS gets possessed by alma. The replicants would still be around, prepped in advance and in storage for when paxton and pointman were ready. Alma would try to restrain or control pointman as well, but unlike paxton whose powers go outward and affect others, pointman was gifted with the ability to keep himself safe and sharp of mind. Fear recruits poitman for this ability and now the younger point has to go stop his mom and brother. ending fatally for both Paxton and Harlan, who pointman kills with his own two hands. After the ending poitman remains with F.E.A.R. and Alma, still around and shocked at Paxton's death takes up the role of super-natural protector to the squad pointman is in, not wanting to lose their other son so soon. Story 2 would be about something else entirely, in my mind it goes to a more "cabin in the woods" slasher of a cursed corpse stuck hurting and killing others despite the soul inside it not wanting to. and fear is send in to burn the body as it is only weak to special "salted flames" but with the body moving on horror-logic speed, teleporting around and other supernatural twists, it eventually gets the drop on the fear squad only to be saved by alma. Then the next story would have the freed lumberjack ghost help out by cutting cables, lifting cars and what other shennaniganery they can do. repeat until each squad-member of F.E.A.R. has a ghost budy and they beat up satan or something.

honestly no reason not to show sa in art as long as you give it the depth and respect it deserves rather than make it for the sake f making it plenty of indie and jrpg games tackle such topics but take the time to flesh them out and give them the apropriate weight to them corpse party is the one that comes to mind where you struggle throught the game to peace the life of a very abused little girl who turned to a vengeful ghost to haunt you and the other abusers , you see bullying , harassment , sa all being mentioned in a gripping way here tho it was more crass and vulgar . no depth nor story behind , it just happens and you are left to parse out your own narritave from disjointed peices when elden ring can tell through fights , hints and ite descriptions a tale of abuse better than you AGINST AN EGG PERSON you messed up something along the way or didnt care enough
