Ivan didn't really choke Till. There aren't any bruises when he lets go of his neck. He was just trying to keep an eye on the points to make sure Till would win and Ivan would die.
I think that the meteors are symbolism for freedom in the way that they are free to streak across the sky leaving behind the terrible world. It is this that brings light to Ivan's eyes as he grows brighter when looking upon a sign of freedom. In the same way I think Till is also a symbol of freedom. His rebellious nature and will to fight probably gives Ivan hope. When Till got lost in his escpae to freedom when running with Ivan he had the red meteors reflected in his eyes gving them the red light as in that moment he yearned for freedom as well. In that way I think green symbolises their entrapment as when he stops running he knows that the chances of him reaching freedom have just disappeared but he can't leave Mizi by herself. This is further seen as when he is tied up he has that green light shining on him. When Ivan smiles as he looks back at Till he is tinged in green as well as he also gives up his freedom to go back for Till. It hurts Ivan to have Till leave him, the black sorrow Ivan is talking about is freedom or the missed chance of it at least and thats why the stage is constantly surrounded my meteors because he is singing about his yearning for freedom.

Sua and Ivan both died wearing white while Mizi and Till wore black. (As said in the video) 3. If you haven't noticed Ivan never actually choked Till, his hands were just on Till's neck. 4. Ivan mocked Sua about sacrificing herself in order to save Mizi; she ended up being in despair because of her death. I think the red is passion, liberation, freedom. It is the only colour you see in Ivan’s eyes as he sings and when he watched the two in the cave. Green seems like the opposite: oppression and realism as he realises ‘of course I can’t just leave’. Green is also the classic colour associated with aliens too which is a fun parallel.
“I’ll drown in you” vs “let me drown in you” is so deep to me, till wants her to feel his feelings back and to let him love her but Ivan knows he will drown, he knows till will never love him back, till only thinks of his crush while Ivan only thinks of till
Super duper late to this video but this song lives in my head rent-free so I really appreciate your analysis! (And I also agree with it, it’s very solid). Btw, the person who drew the comic for this mv, HERO, is the original creator of the webcomic which was adapted to the popular manga that is Horimiya. Understanding this song was actually one of my goals when I first started learning Japanese, and although that I have reached the proficiency to understand most of the lyrics and the words on the mv, I still have a lot of studying to do. 😅 However, I have a few ideas regarding this song I’d like to share. It’s mostly related to the significance of the title “Fairytale,”. Regarding fairytales, the lyrics in this song are very reminiscent of the Tanabata, since there’s mentions of “a dark sea” and “stars” and “reunion”. In the story of the Tanabata, the cow herder and the weaver girl, are star crossed lovers separated by the Amanogawa (aka the Milky Way). They are allowed one day to meet every year. However, the sky has to be clear so they can cross the Milky Way. If it rains on that particular day of the year, they will miss their chance to meet and will just have to wait and pray that it doesn’t rain next year. I think the woman views her relationship with her ex as similar to the legend. They have drifted apart due to circumstances but some of the bond and love remains. That’s why even though she’s chosen to move on with her life, she hopes that they will meet again. (Easier said than done though!) There’s also a comma in the title and the lyrics have mentioned that there is still a continuation to the fairytale. In Japan, a significant number of the population are Buddhists and believe in reincarnation. I agree that her wish to meet again in the future will not happen, and I think she also knows it in her head. But with all her heart, she hopes that in another lifetime, they can be reunited and have a happy ending… despite the bridges being burned, even if it takes a several thousand years. (It’s more of a romantic take than a realistic one~). Now you can interpret it as this or you can think of it as just a fairytale, just pure wishful thinking.

I'm pretty sure that Ivan chose to dress the way he did because he was always going to sacrifice himself for Till and he kissed him because he didn't want to die with regrets (not letting Till know he loved him) You can see at the end Till's neck wasn't actually red and he had simply given up *thinking* that Ivan was actually going to kill him. In round three we see from Ivan that Till, his resilience and fighting spirit, were to him, akin to the thing he first found awe in; Shooting Stars. Till to Ivan was one of the only things he found any positive feelings in; which I believe led to his obsession and him always trying to get Till's attention. Even if most of the time the only way he found he could was to annoy him or through violence. When he smiled at then end it seemed to me like a mixture of relief that he protected Till (who would live), the fact that Till finally *looked* and saw Ivan. And finally that, even though he knew it would never be returned, he was able to in a way, profess his love.

Till went all in black for his own funeral. Ivan went all in white for his own funeral too, wedding-funeral. Till was determined to die because his love (Mizi) was gone, he was depressed. Ivan knew he will die - whether by losing the round (if Till decided to move on, unlikely) or sacrifice himself to ensure Till will continue. For Ivan this was his 'confession' time, thus white = wedding. The kiss was real, not to make Till react and continue singing but to confess his feelings, this was his last time seeing Till, last chance to express his love. The last kiss was just so tender. But Ivan also knew he has to ensure to lose so he pretended to choke Till. There is no force there, just tilting the head to show pretend but we see Till is not choking at all - no person, even if they wish to die, can physically resist to try to get air. If there was even the slightest threat, the human brain, and thus Till, would have showed some signs of trying to get air. There was no force in the choke, no left marks, not even the slightest redness. This is why we see the realization in Till - he realized the kiss and there was no real strength, he saw the smile and realized what is going on thus the look in his eyes at the very end. But it was already too late for both of them. Ivan achieved his confession (and wedding) and successfully stopped Till's funeral. My poor boys, they deserve so much happiness. P.S. Till was SA-ed by the aliens, Ivan went and saw that after all happened. He saw how broken is Till, the boy who never accepted defeat, who fought against everything and everyone without regards (the scene where Till went against the alien 'dog' for Mizi, the scene where he attacked the aliens which are his owners, etc.) - the scene of Ivan there is Ivan suffering for Till, but Till was so out, never saw that side of Ivan, that tenderness. Till saw/felt Ivan's tenderness only at the stage, at the last moments of Ivan's life.

i never considered it before, but i think your interpretation of ivan’s white outfit is actually on point! from what i gathered from the comics posted by vivinos, both ivan and sua planned on dying in their respective rounds to save till and mizi. ivan actually has a problem with sua’s “savior complex” as you put it, telling her that she’s being selfish since mizi clearly loves her. he finds joy in the fact that they’re similar in that way. however, ivan thinks that he’s able to pull it off since till loves mizi and doesn’t spare ivan another glance. of course, there’s also the interpretation of the “white dress turned red” line from sweet dream where both ivan and sua wore white and died 😭

Haha i luv ur reactions on the part when they kissed.... tat was my reaction when it happened... then the after part with Mizi, the answr ur question yes... Mizi went up against Luka and theres a human resistance cuz the aliens r basically treating them as pets and entertainment, they r probably trying to break them all out... Ivan does luv Till but its onesided and he used his luv to keep going forward when he was nervous and he wanted to save Till... Till has been known for his resistance on singing for his alien masters. Till wanted to die cuz he thought Mizi was dead cuz shes filed missing, they made him lose hope and broke his spirit... so ivan chose to sacrafice himself. Also about the colors in Japan or chinese culture White is actually the color of mourning... Hope tis helps yah. Also its best to watch all them in order, i had to do tat jus to understand which characters were which, then understand the plot, a couple times, so tat help answer ur questions better. If you watch the studio recording one... At the part they were duetting at 3:20 (studio version) Ivan let Till shine in this part, means Ivan plan to make Till win from the start but in Round 6 Till stop singing. It force him to change plan so he decided to kiss him to reduce his own score and act like he choke Till to make sure he will die instead of Till The duet part sounds more like Till's solo with Ivan as background supporting voice.... It's like their relationship, they didn't harmonizing with each other, only Ivan keep supporting for Till until the end.. Also the part you said "Ivan makes no difference for the score anyways cuz he's losing from the start" , no because if Ivan keep singing or did not do anything for Till then Till will lose. Because Till plan to give up and stop singing, Ivan realized that so he went to Till and kiss him to distract the aliens from the fact Till stop sang and cover it up with his act of forcing himself on Till. The reason he keep "choking" (he didn't rly choke Till actually he was just pretending) was because he didn't want Till see he got shot. Till was under impression Ivan want to kill him and was accepting his death. Ivan Probably don't want Till see he got shot because Till will make an action to save Ivan instead (Ivan want to save Till, if Till "save" Ivan from the gun, Till will be the one who gonna die instead.)
Someone wrote in the comments that in Korea, it's a tradition to cover the body of the dead with a white quilt at the funeral. Ivan went in to this knowing full well that he was going to sacrifice himself for Till. In a way Till's eyes wake up after the kiss and the death of Ivan. Notice also how Ivan always frees Till from his choker, always freeing his rebellious spirit. And when Ivan chokes Till, it's almost as if he's both trying to wake up his rebeliousness and of course also doing it to make sure Till survives, by ruining his own score (although some comments noticed that Till didn't have choke marks, so he definitely pretended so that Till wouldn't loose.) I think the reason why Ivan looked so focused at Till while "choking" him is because he can't rest until he is completely sure that Till has won. He first realises that the job is done when the impact of the shots finally affects him. And then he can rest.

I just want to say your wrong. Till was never meant to win. I’m gonna be honest alright, I love till but there was no absolute way he was fucking bagging that shit, he wasn’t gonna win, not against Ivan who’s a fucking fan favorite amongst the aliens, and till knew that, he knew was gonna fucking loose against Ivan, but he was ok with it because he didn’t have a reason to live anymore because Mizi was fucking gone. Plus the score was only revealed after the initial kiss 3:25 meaning that Ivan was probably meant to be higher if he didn’t stop and start fucking kissing till against his will. It’s safe to assume that the reason Ivan got 70 was because he literally “abused” the shit out of till. It went exactly the way Ivan wanted it to go. He wanted everyone to hate him for kissing till he wanted them to see him as aggressive and fucking disgusting. The reaction that we got before we knew Ivan’s reasoning was the reaction Ivan would’ve wanted the audience to have. If Ivan didn’t stop singing it would’ve been over for Till, like legit. That’s why Ivan glanced at the scoreboard, he wanted to make fucking sure that he got lower and the he made the audience hate him. Also the kiss was never meant to be successful he wanted Till to resist so that it would be abuse. If you look closely Ivan never really choked till, Till wasn’t showing any signs of struggle even after Ivan let go. Normally after getting choked first you would do was fucking catch you breath because if you didn’t u would fucking die. But till didn’t do that meaning Ivan didn’t choke till. 13:40 we have a theory that whoever's wearing white dies since Sua died in white, and now Ivan died in white, in round 4, they were both wearing white and they both survived which could mean death was the correct path all along
