Gibson Johnny A will get you close to this tone for half the price (used) and it's fully hollow. 470JL is trestle block design, it's not fully hollow. Rhett, what hollow/semi-hollow do you currently own?

Thanks, for letting me sing. Didn't really hear the guitars, I was way too loud. "RAMBLE ON!"

I had a blonde '51 Zephyr Deluxe Regent for several years. I used it in many Western Swing and older Jazz/Swing shows. I was sad to have to sell it when my wife (amazing vocalist) and I sold our houses and hit the road in our travel trailer eight years ago, and just didn't have room for all our guitars. I also had a blonde '51 Triumph Regent as well during that time period. Sadly, it's gone as well!

I’m scared to even pick up a guitar over $2k. I can’t imagine being in the same room as a $4k one.

Bought a PRS McCarty Hollowbody II in 2005 and didn't really connect with it. Six months ago something clicked and now it's my favorite guitar and I have a whole rig setup around it. It can do anything. I even leave it plugged in and can turn everything including the amp on with just one switch. It's always in my hands even if it's just 5 minutes here and there.

Great video and astute analysis. Thanks to Quentin Tarantino for choosing this song for Pulp Fiction. I didn't know the background, so thanks for the education. It helps me to give the song the appreciation it deserves. Your band covered the hell out of it too; I would have to do a serious "side-by-side" comparison to see if I could tell the differences (if any) between the 2 versions. My favorite Link Wray song is "It's So Easy", which Tarantino included in the Death Proof soundtrack. His rhythm section was incredible. I'm a 64-year-old rock/jazz bassist who switched from piano in 1973 thanks to Mel Schacher of Grand Funk Railroad.

I agree with a lot of what you say here Rhett, but once a heavy O/D is added it looses some of its unique characteristics & can sound like a lot of other guitars 🙃 just my opinion keep up the good work 👏👏

Avi Shabat worked on my guitars when I lived in LA. I had no idea he built such great guitars. I reached out to him last night and Avi told me next time I’m in LA to stop by his shop to check out his guitars. Thanks Rhett.

I don’t know anyone that actually, physically has $500,000. Let alone for a guitar. I love guitars, but look at what PRS is doing with their SE line. They look good, play good, sound good. And their price $750. Young kids are not gonna know who Gary Moore, Peter Greene, even Jimmy Page is. Nor do they care. It’s sad for us that they’re all dying off, along with the people that watched them in the 60’s & 70’s (me or us). But, who can buy these things? Especially when I can buy one that sounds better than the $500,000 guitar. For less than a $1000. I doubt my guitar collection will sell for 1/4 of its value when I die. Nor will I sell them for the money now, because I want to be around things that make me happy. And right now in the world we’re living in, having something that makes you happy is a good thing. Guitars are tools. Not pieces to be hung on a wall. It’s meant to be scratched, worked, even unfortunately, broken, then repaired.

A good player can find the sweet spot in any amp. It is not apples to apples. A lot of the component suppliers for the original amp no longer exist and UL standards and epa standards make a difference in how the amp is constructed. The reverb in the old fender amps can be very springy and you have to be skilled in order to use it.

Interestingly, you can pretty much play every genre except high gain metal with that guitar. This reinforces the idea that the invention of the Fender Precision was much more important than that of the solid body for the development of 60s and 70s music

Random guitar player with many subscribers thinks he speaks a truth revealed. Then he uses a classic pedal in the wrong way to play the same cliched boring pentatonic licks everyone else has been playing for the last 120 years. Oh well....

I only used one pedal and it was the boss blues driver. Thats the tone i like. Im a simple guy i like Paul Kossof and Billy Gibbons and now i really like Charlie Starr and Paul Jackson. None of these fellows really use a lot of effects. I like Budda amps and a good LPjr.
