This Guitar Was A Gift From Les Paul Himself?
Музыка
Today we're hanging out with @ArielPosen at Big House Guitars, and we got to look at some of the most pristine vintage guitars I've ever seen, including a '52 gold top that was GIVEN to its original owner by Les Paul himself. We also got to play the only 4x15 Marshall cab I've ever come across, and it's gnarly.
Thanks to Big House Guitars for letting us goof off with their most expensive instruments, go check them out if you're in Atlanta

Hey guys, I’m Dave Hope the original bass player for Kansas. That is absolutely my old Marshall 4-15 cab. I used a Marshall Major 200 watt head with it.

Man that combination makes for one hell of a bottom end. I live way out in the country. Id love to try out that set up on my deck crank way up just to see how crazy loud it can be lol.

How's it going? The first big concert I ever went to was at the old Municipal Auditorium in 1975. You guys were on the bill with Mahogany Rush and Queen. The Municipal was one of Atlanta's great venues, and everybody kicked ass that night. Kansas went on to become one of my favorite bands of all time! I miss Atlanta, and I miss those days. Hats off CHEERS!
Yep, just casually hanging out in the cool guitar shop with Rhett and Ariel on a Monday morning, playing the sickest gear... no bigs.

@@stewarttomkinson3356probably in fact 99% of vintage instruments actually have demonic possession. The Catholic Church doesn’t consider items to be exorcised only places and people so there’s no hope to save them. Might as well sell everything for a loss and stick to new gear.
That strat through the 4x15 clean was the best tone of the whole video

That Strat and Marshall together.... pure gold. OMG.
So cool to see two guitars that are so old to be in such fantastic shape, both with great stories. That Tele especially sounded fantastic.
I love these videos of when you go to guitar stores with other guitarists, and getting them to play things you don’t usually see them play … love it
That LP is like a dog off its leash, what a killer P90 tone

@@MoreMeRecording That was that old Princeton. It's probably got original tubes to sound like that.
That’s what a P90 should sound like. Such a cool guitar.
Crazy thing is that Ariel plays a lot in open C or similar. To think he picks up any guitar in standard and makes it sing like that makes it that much more amazing.

He usually tours with two guitars one in a lowered standard tuning I think B standard and one in a lowered open tuning. Then between the two and capos he can play it in a variety of tunings. He’s a master of dynamics too. I love seeing him live.
The coolest thing about this video is not just the vintage guitars, it’s that you and Ariel keep passing them back and forth and even with the same guitar and same amp you both sound like yourself. Your tone starts with your hands!
I’ll never get tired of these awesome store visits, and with Ariel on the hang? Come on, what more do you need from a KZread video?
Great video. Almost strumming the ashtray was awesome. That Strat tone at the end was tight. ✌🏼
Both of you with that strat into the Marshall was magic
When Ben says "Oh, I've got something in the back" you know it's gonna be good...that 4x15 is exactly where my heart wants to live, just a tsunami of warmth and bass washing over me...what a fucking great cabinet...
Het Rhett, cool video! You’re definitely keeping good company- Posen is one of most interesting and talented cats out there today. Rock on!
AP and some incredible vintage instruments. You don't need much more than that.
So cool to see and hear Ariel play some guitar since I missed his show in Saskatoon back in Sept to which I had a front row seat.
Talk about the king of cool hangs… Ariel seems so awesome. Also … the 12th fret markers on the ‘bird are so far apart. Crazy.
Ariel has been my favorite guitarist this year. Hearing him play in standard is so weird to my ears lol
Ariel plays amazing, what a player allways! 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Great video!
Rhett, love when you hit those straight blues licks. Sweet.
This video is the perfect example of tone being in the hands . Rhett sound so different from ariel when playing the same rig
If there’s one thing I love, it’s looking at stuff I can’t afford. And I love this video.
That Strat/Marshall combo was magical!
I had fun watching this!! Thanks!!
That Tele is soooo buttery. Beautiful guitar. Same with the early Les Paul. Great vid!!👍
Does this mean there is an Ariel Posen Interview coming on Rick Beato's Channel soon? ...It would be about time!
I really like these guitar shop videos. Reminds me coll moments with some friends when we used to hang out in such places. When the video ends I always say to myself: "Oh ! Already over ?! Damn ! Wish it would last longer !"
Xmas gift came early, thanks Rhett, amazing vibes! Cheers
I was just recently thinking how I never see case covers and what a great idea they are. Nice to see one. That 4x15 kinda overwhelmed the mics but I can imagine it sounds crazy good
The show at Eddie's Attic was incredible. Awesome video!

Man, I gotta keep my eyes open for those shows. So sorry I missed it.
Ben seems so happy at this job
That'll perk up your Monday. Great hands, the both of you. Always inspiring. I'm curious what the other bridge for the Firebird is.
Why only 20 min?! I wanted 20 Hrs with Ariel and you playing all that amazing gear.
In 1974 I met a fellow student who was an EE major, and also played in a local R&B band. He owned a ‘52, looked just like that one, with maybe a bit of age showing. At the time it seemed like the holy grail when he offered me to play it through his Marshall occasionally. I think he mentioned that he had paid the then hefty price of some $ 1500+ for it.
Some glorious tones at the end there (from about the 17:55 point forward).
the (mint?) '52 les paul and that 4X15's cab!? dang what a great vid. all the axes were great - the playing was, as always, humbling. also - more gear crackle and hum please
Love the Dave Hope 4x15 bass cabinet from Marshall! I bet it moved some air.
Great shop - tons of great vinyl too.
Some very nice gear and great playing from Ariel as always. Ariels finger tips look like they could poke holes in plywood, lots and lots of hours on a fretboard!
I used to hang out at Big house quite often when I’d go to Atlanta. I’d be star struck if I ran into Ariel there lol
My favorite part of this video is you can tell Ariel isn't obsessed w/ gear. He's obsessed w/ playing.
That's the warmest sounding fender Esquire i've heard
That tele is stunning
It’s funny nobody noticed or mentioned that the ‘59 Esquire has a top loader bridge. (I noticed there are no string ferrules in the back.) So I guess that makes it a “Campi-caster”! (Referring to Jim Campilongo’s top-loading ‘59 tele.)
I would not Need to play these amazing guitars... But Oh how I would have loved to be there in person to See and Hear them all, In person... KZread just doesn't do it justice... 🤘🏻😝
Living the Dream...Don't Ever Lose That Spark
Honestly you could just walk into this store every video and I would still make time to watch
That Esquire is amazing
Ariel Posen is so freaking good
I had a '59 Esquire. No date on the neck puzzled me til I found out that in 1959, they didn't date the necks... Also, strings don't go through the body that year. There was a different bridge on it and the strings went through the bridge.
The firebird really suited you Mr Rhett, but so tricky to get to the controls
love it when my heroes team up 💪
Man Rhett, not only did that Firebird look good on you ! it sounded great on you as well!

I thought the exact same thing. It has that sound in his hands. It was snarly in a good way.
Bro starts ripping midnight train to memphis on the firebird and I wanted to cry. Such a good song choice
Awsome store and Gear 👍
The firebird immediately has the Johnny Winter tone, you cant deny it.
I live 2 minutes away from this shop and, not kidding, I almost went the day of Ariel's show because I had a feeling he'd be there before heading over to Eddie's. I played that white custom shop Strat with the tortoise pick guard a couple of weeks ago and it was so nice. The body felt lighter than the neck.
Love a Les Paul with P90s. That thing SCREAMS.
Rhett’s dangling a 52 les Paul with one hand as he holds his $4 coffee in the other hand 🧐
The 4x15 is obviously a cabinet for a bass guitar. My set up for bass was a 4x12 sitting on top of a 2x15.
That 4x15 says "we're here to be loud, live. No, I DON'T care what it sounds like in the mix."
Just about the brightest P90s I’ve ever heard. Or it that the amp fizzing so hard?
I still see Ben as my old GC guitar dm when I was 772
That Esquire sounds just unbelievable. I would personally want to hear that Goldtop through a much less farty amp. Or maybe with the bass on 0 through that Princeton. But an amazing guitar for sure. Thanks Rhett!
@mybingobrain

Yeah, I didn't care for that amp...
the 4x15 sounded huge! i didnt know they made green backs that big ever lol
For some reason I always think of the thousands of strings that's been on a vintage guitar like this one.
Nice neck pickup on the 52 les Paul but the 60 cycle hum is real!!!
that feeling when a thing you hope does the thing actually does the thing better than the thing you hoped the thing would do when you get to pick the thing up
Caught the last show of the tour at the Turf Club in St. Paul…just a BIG OLD NERDY MUSO HANG. Gave the crowd the 3-part harmony for Angeline and the big ol’ nerdy crowd of musos did not disappoint.
Hey Rhett, unrelated to this video. Would you ever considering doing a video explaining what "tone stacks" are for us laymans?
That Firebird rules
That bridge pickup screams punk rock too me.
Holy shit the tone of the Telly
Nice show!
I wanna know more about the non-cutaway archtop with P90s hanging on the wall behind. Is it an ES-125?
So relatable.
It'd be crazy if a 4x20 cab existed
Cool vid guys! Btw. Isn't Ben at Righteous anymore?
whats that song ariel plays in the beginning of the video? something by SRV?
Rhett, you should check out Bennett Custom Audio from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Mark, the owner, creates some brilliant handmade pedals! I think you would like them!
I want that 4X15!
Hey.. the top looks exactly like my 54 Gibson. Same p90’s, same knobs, pick plate, same trapeze tail. The body of mine is hollow with more depth. Scotty played one. Bryan Adams has one.
Rhett really out here with the selvedge denim
Speaking of Les Paul… Didja know that Les actually owned a Telecaster, signed by Leo Fender. It sold at the auction after Les’s passing for around $60 Grand.
A true Kalamazoo beauty. Thanks Rhett.
Rhett were you playing a section of Lawn Boy by Phish around the 8:55 mark?
That Arial Posen was a pretty deadly player
Firebird was really cool
This may be a very stupid question , so I do apologize in advance. What does a selector switch do on a Telecaster with only one single coil pickup. Are there coiltaps installed? I’m very curious to know.
Rhett, I have that same Princeton!
I mean, whether or not It's still an awesome guitar.
Cool video 👍🏻
Fun video! Liked the ‘64 Firebird the best. You should have played the ‘52 LP through a Marshall. Not so great through the Princeton.
That sounds gnarly af
Back in 1980-ish a neighborhood friend of mine had an Esquire like that in his house. Said it was his dad's [dad wasn't around anymore]. He knew I played and wanted me to check it out. It played nice. Said he was going to get lessons. Don't think he ever followed through. Wonder whatever happened to it.
Was that midnight train to Memphis, Rhett?
Stopped to grab the good headphones when they pulled out the monster Marshall.
Never mind the cool shop & all the cool gear, Ben has just the sassiest taste in shirts tho’ ...
