I’d say she’s excellent but with the likes of Neil Peart or gene Krupa - sadly, I honestly don’t think she’s near them (none really are). I’d absolutely put her in a top 75 or 100 though. Hope you’re well.

@DRUMNERD if you're including The greats of History like Peart,Rich,Krupa,Purdie, then I'd put her in the top 25 myself. Mostly due to her musicality

@DRUMNERD I guess I should have clarified by saying current drummers. I mean Purdie is 85☹️

@@JayDavisAtHome I can’t imagine how that list was made in having Purdue (one of if not the most recorded drummer) in 85. Let alone his feel. I fear some of these poles are popularity contests.

The broken internet aside, I enjoyed this reaction. I was hoping for a bit bigger one on Pau's scream but that's OK. You gave a really nice technical breakdown of Pau's drumming. This is nothing. You need to watch more The Warning videos to really see the range of her talents. "Dust to Dust" is a really good example.

IMO Neil was a percussionist rather than a traditional rock band drummer.

Buddy Rich was a machine on the drums. Gene Krupa’s drumming had heart - machines don’t have hearts 😉 While Rich could dazzle you with his technical ability, Krupa’s drumming (IMHO) was more “musical”

  • @Lensmaster1

Exactly why I prefer Krupa. Wow rich is probably the best technical drummer ever, Krupa puts his soul in his drumming.

It's like this, it doesn't matter what you do on top. The bass drum keeps the beat, and the same time. She's good, this is why the bass player and drummer always play in sync.

I'd like to recommend I Speak Astronomy (official video) please. It highlights Dmitry better and is my favorite song by them. If you do the song please notice the 2nd time throught the bridge. Dmitry plays the china on every third eighth note while playing everything else in four, keeping the pattern going until it works its way back around. The song also has time signature changes but that's kinda obvious. Not many people catch the thing with the china cymbal the 2nd time. Thanks for the video, much appreciated!

Dmitry Kim is the drummer here ... he came on after the previous drummer broke his back (or something like that) and is no longer able to drum. He did the tracks for the KoE album and shot a couple of music videos with them, and did some local/regional shows ; but they knew he was only ever going to be temporary because he had no desire to live the touring life. (which is when Vlad went to work learning how to drum)

I can’t play a single instrument, but Nightwish is my favorite band in the world, and I love watching drum cams from all bands, especially from the best drummer in the world! I will never understand how a drummers brain works -how they can make their arms and legs do all different things And keep time so the rest of the band is able to do what they need to do.

I learned and have relied on the Moeller technique since 40 years ago, and I’ll still never have a left hand like Buddy Rich. And I’ve never seen a left hand like his ever since, from anyone. Not Steve Smith, not Dom Famularo, not even Peter Erskine. After Buddy was born, they broke the mold.

Pau is a force of nature, in 2017 I saw them live in her homeland Monterrey, due to the heat she had a heatstroke, a few minutes later she returned and finished her presentation as if nothing had happened, you don't know how proud We are that they represent Mexico in rock
