love these old performance videos featuring young Rush. I am a big fan of Neil's handlebar mustache phase.

As another percussionist I agree Neil is amazing, I got to see Buddy Rich in the '70s incredible, but Neil is on another plane of existence head and shoulders above everyone else, saw Rush and Neil 4 times ,each time his drum set got larger and his drumming more incredible

As a drummer you should listen to the next song off that album La Villa Strangiato, back when Hemispheres came out it was considered the gold standard of rock drumming by other drummers.

Neil used to play with the fat end of his sticks all the time, not just for the wood blocks, started when he was young and couldn't afford new sticks, so when the tips broke he flipped them around and used them the other way. Eventually when pro mark started giving him sticks he went back to the normal way.

The tubular bells are used in Xanadu song

Neil calls them temple blocks, tuned wooden instruments. The reason why trying to count out the beats is confusing is that Neil and Alex are playing in alternating meters, 5/4 ,7/8, 8/8

Another track you may like from Hemispheres is Cygnus X-1 Book 2; Book 1 is the closing track on their 1977 album A Farewell To Kings and also features some amazing drum work. Cheers from Toronto! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐

The 5/4 section is so much fun to play on the drums.

The tuned wood blocks are called temple blocks. Neil uses those tubular bells on Xanadu and Closer to the Heart. There’s probably others (Cygnus book1?). He’s got a real glockenspiel in the kit at this point, too, before it got replaced with MIDI pads. Cheers!

I suppose it won’t surprise you to hear, then, that Danny Carey was a longtime acolyte, and later a good friend of, of Neil Peart.

Good Morning, Love this song! There is a bit of whimsy in it. Three geniuses in one band! One Little Victory live in Rio is one to check out. Cheers

It's a simple 5/4 my guy. Side note: I'd be willing to give a generous donation if you tell if it's your computer or your internet that's causing the jerkiness in your videos. One of them needs an upgrade, because I enjoy your content.

I agree. I usually enjoy your content so that’s the only reason I stuck to this one with how bad the quality of the video stream is. Anyway, keep on drumming!

Thank you kindly for the offer and for sticking with me through these shitty quality videos. Rest assured I have found a computer with 16gb as was recommended for what I’m doing. My current one is at most 8gb and clearly not cutting the mustard. I’m paid this coming week and will place the order, though the videos won’t be able to be put out until the end of June - due to current circumstances. I hope you’re well and appreciate the sticking with me. Be well and happy Friday.

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake is an album released by the Small Faces in 1968. Those are wood blocks. Bill Bruford is the O.G drummer. You are supposed to be a nerd?

You are so naive but it's very cute. Those look like coconuts. That's just a set of wood blocks. It's called percussion. Things you bang on. I was hating your commentary at first but again you're innocence makes you somewhat funny in a good way.

I love how this kid is like air drumming and missing every accent and everything because it doesn't know the freaking song. This is prog rock. You ain't going to keep up son
