Ethan created Hello Road and started making car/travel videos as an excuse to get off his butt, go on adventures, make new friends, discover new things, travel to amazing places, and of course, justify his countless questionable automotive purchases. His infatuation with weird cars along with a shoestring budget often leads him to filling up his driveway with a brigade of terrible, failing hoopties.

Fantastic to see the streets of LA again up close and personal & also on your fun car spotting vid from two videos ago (guessing it was a Sunday?). Went for a bike ride on my fold up ‘pedal power’ last night to collect my car from repairs, enjoyed it, & thought of your e bike review videos and your new found ‘appreciation of them. I think I lit a spark & although I am in outback Queensland, with mostly quiet roads I’m open to exploring this option! Thanks!
Some great spots here! I can’t believe you saw TWO Ascenders
fun video to watch brother 👍
Throw some red Watanabes on it!❤
The specs are good but the price point is just soooo high. I would find myself cross shopping with motorcycles in this range.
I'd disagree with the comment that e-bikes aren't for exercise. Drop the assist to 1 and it basically balances out the extra weight of the bike and you still get a good workout. It also enables you to bump up the assist for a big hill or a strong headwind, enabling exercise on windy days or hilly areas that might keep people at home otherwise. Maybe these heavy fat tires aren't ideal for it, but they'll work. I ride my Ride1Up 700 ST for both transportation and exercise (when it's too windy for the acoustic bike). Ride1Up makes some more normal exercise-focused bikes too - might be an interesting review for you. E-Bikes are just great all around. Glad you're doing these reviews!
Sorry I realized I should’ve been more clear, I was just talking about myself! For me I’m not looking for exercise but totally they can be great for exercise!
And yes I’d like to reach out to Ride1Up!
seems like this bike has normal tektro brakes with 1.8mm brake discs and a 2 piston brake caliper. on a bike this heavy especially if it is fully loaded it should have the 2.3mm discs with a 4 piston brake caliper😅
It's interesting, I never felt like this bike was under-braked. But for sure if I weighed more, or if the bike was loaded up with cargo, or if I was dealing with huge hills it could behave differently. It seems like it's pretty common for most fat tire bikes at this price point do 2 piston calipers and 180mm rotors
Though I have dealt with under-braked bikes! My Radwagon 4 weighs about the same as this Freedare, but it has pretty terrible cable-operated 180mm brakes. Gets pretty sketchy when loaded up. Need to upgrade for sure
If you ever want to sell it, I'm interested in purchasing it.
Ton of fun. Loved it. Would be great to see more of these!
I did the same thing here in Orange County. But, mine are a photo collection on Flickr.
Had you done more pedaling, I think your review would’ve been much more negative… these big wheel, heavy bikes are not for pedaling.
Yeah if the battery runs out on an 84 pound bike, it's not going to be that much fun to pedal! But honestly it's not too bad in low gear with Level 1 assist. I think most of these fat tire e-bikes are targeted at people who want comfort and speed, and not necessarily exercise.
@HelloRoad only thing I don’t like about most E-bikes are they have big fat tires but the front forks they use aren’t any better for the extra weight, My friend had one and the forks snapped at the head point If your battery goes dead you have a long heavy ride home
The front fork here seems a bit stronger than the one I have on my non-electric mountain bike, but I agree-fat-tire e-bikes add a lot of weight to the equation, especially if you've got a longer range battery! My mountain bike weighs about 30 pounds, most fat-tire e-bikes in this style are around 80.
@HelloRoad what make are your sneakers ? I love the different colours of them Great video
Thanks!! These are Asics Noosa Tri 15. They come in a few different colors/patterns :)
honestly, even standard subaru trim levels do really good in the dirt if you're not as into hill climbing and just live in an area where not every road will be paved or maintained well - i drove a stock 2012 legacy for about a year and we'd take that thing up dirt hollow roads in the mountains of west virginia and it got about everywhere we needed it to
Ethan i love this show. Would you please consider doing the same thing in a ritzy neighborhood like beverly hills ??
Yeah for sure!!
Still have my 1999 Chev Prizm.
Glad youre doing ebikes Ethan. Jeff E. Rochester, MN
I have a suby "xt" turbo but I'm in Australia..
Thank you for speaking on this issue from the perspective of a car enthusiast. This problem has affected me a lot personally, especially the past half year plus. I live in car dependent Long Island NY and currently work here, and I’ve forgone a car during this period. Despite the miserably long commute, I’ve been saving money with the hope of moving to a non car dependent area of NYC. I’m already comfortable commuting without a car, so I feel like I need to give a place like that a chance. Car dependency relies on wealth, and as someone from a lower income family i always felt like I’m being excommunicated from these suburbs, even though I’m from here. It takes a lot of swallowing of your pride to let go of what you see everyone else doing, especially when you’re the only person walking down the street and one of the only super commuters in the office. I refuse to believe that I can’t find other ways to thrive.
9 recallsin 9 months, we dont drive it as its unsafe, its cheaply made, and lots of problems, seems like they took all their old junk and added it to this model. as for hybrid, you only get 24 miles on hybrid since you are told to set it at 80% of the battery. lazy design engineer, have to push button to charge when yoo drive.....mazda needs hyundai engineers as this is the last mazda we buy...
Anybody know how much lift and size of tyres they have? Beautiful set up. I have 33s on mine seems underpowered might consider downsizing
Not impressed at all. Looks like an early 2000s CRV is as good if not better in quite a few ways from fuel economy to interior space and design. It at least is closer to a cube shape which is nice for space
9:25 its a renault captur with diplomat plates !!
Yes! I noticed that too when I was driving!!
What do you call someone who rambles on? Whoever the video creator is
Awesome, feel free to go away
I do the same thing, biking around Orange County, CA. You could see different interesting old cars every day.
If Subaru put beefier engines in their cars, this would tempt me a lot. I am not quite ready to give up my (Cobb tuned) Golf Alltrack with the DSG for this with the CVT and less power. At least not yet.
I have one, and it’s amazing with all the pot holes in my town. 😂. And yeah, I love it
Such a cool car
Last time I took my 2018 Crosstrek in for service, they gave me a Wilderness loaner. A potentially expensive extended test drive. Good thing my Crosstrek isn't giving me any issues.
I think this car makes all the sense in the world. It's like a mini-Outback, a nice handy size for light off roading adventures and daily work.
I used to do this on my around my subdivision when I was 12. It was a big place with a mix of condos, townhouses and single family homes. I’m sure people thought I was up to no good.I just liked looking at interesting cars.
Ethan, I will wait for the Levorg to reach this market before I describe any Impreza variant as a wagon. 😉
Cool little car, that color really pops in the sun!
Yesterday, when i was watching you riding a bike throught the streets of L.A i noticed this Subaru in your front yard ,i was going to ask if you were going to make a video about it ,but now there is no need.😂😂 Great car and brand i have a 2014 Forester and a 2008 WRX.
Haha yeah I guess it was an Subaru Easter egg in the last vid!! :) :)
@@HelloRoad totally, it was an easter egg. 👍👍👍
What do you think of this capable little battle wagon?
It is as ugly as sin ....
I'll let you know tomorrow (Friday) as mine is being delivered to my house. I got the Wilderness with the same upgrades (moonroof, etc.) and chose white because light colors contrast best with the black cladding-just like a Stormtrooper uniform! Looking forward to many weekends and summers carving my own path in the national forests here in the SW and PNW.
@@Physics_Dude Nice!!!!
Great video. I actually enjoyed doing the same thing just, driving around and looking in people's backyards to see what they have just left sitting. I spotted a first generation Ford probe just the other day only 3 miles from my house. I almost lost my mind when I saw it. I would enjoy seeing more videos like this, it was really fun. 😊👍
I have two friends who are roommates and drive a Toyota Mirai and a Nissan Cube. They have to be the only Mirai/Cube household in the world 😂
Whenever I go running I'm doing this EXACT same thing...Stopping to catch my breath while looking at cars that 95 percent of people wouldn't give a second glance to!
My parents traded their ‘86 Skoda Estelle 120(Canadian) for an Isuzu Impulse.
This is probably the best way to car spot. Car spotting while driving definitely feels extremely sketchy. Feels like a drive-by is gonna happen. Just saying... nobody does that in my city because they don't wanna get shot. It's just best to mind your business and use your eyes. I'm a professional photographer and I wouldn't dare just take pictures or video of cars without asking the owner first. Even though it's legal it's just the respect factor. But on a bike isn't to much different but not obviously noticeable. And also, getting footage of a mustang swerving and a boring challenger and a Nissan gtr that I seen several times at Walmart from hotwheel packaging (and also the race track I go to locally) is not CAR spotting. I can literally go outside or turn on fast and the furious and I see those cars. It's not impressive anymore to me.
There was a 6 month period last year where there were two different Suzuki Equator pickups in my neighborhood. One of them was a work truck by used by someone who seemed to be working on one of the old mansions, but the other one was clearly somebody's pride and joy. It looked new. I doubt I saw two of them in the first five years they were new.
More Georgia!
She's a good pup!
1st gen impulse, but it must be an 87 rs turbo
nx2k is badass but would be hard to get body paers...
Sad how people/society say renting is always a waste of money yet owning a car isn't.. Propaganda.
Fun Fact: All US Sold Volkswagen Things were made in Mexico Hecho En Mexico.
Nice car spottings! 80's cars are my favourite, for example that 1985-87 Corolla sedan, used to be everyday sight here too, but not anymore. Yesterday saw a 90's Nissan Almera 3-door Hatchback, which reminded me it's a good while since I last saw one.
That is what that car is called. I just saw one 2 days ago and couldn't remember the name. It has the butterfly grille. Thanks
I like the PT Cruiser. The Camry, I remember being in awe seeing one in the 98-99 TRD catalog with BBS mesh wheels and four piece body kit. I've always really liked the Collector's Edition with the two tone paint job. The 80s Toyota Minivan, I would like one with a Mystery Machine inspired paint job 😅 The Chrysler Concorde reminds me of the Dodge Stratus that use to be practically everywhere in SoCal but now I can't remember the last time I saw one (along with the Neon). I think those were even used in the North American Touring Car Championship racing of some sort during the late 90s-early '00s (I remember one of them was a white car with red livery graphics). This was a fun video; thanks for the upload and sharing!
I still drive a 1986 Renault Alliance, maaaan. It got Car & Driver's Car of the Year.
