Chevy let me borrow their all new Colorado Z71 mid-size pickup truck for a week, and I decided to take it on a little road trip and see how well its turbocharged 4-cylinder can tow my 5,000 pound travel trailer. Let's take an in-depth look at the features, the interior, and see if this mid-size truck can do full size truck things!

Are full-size trucks getting too big? Are mid-size trucks the best trucks?

Yes and no.

I love my mid-sized truck (Nissan Frontier), but I wish they were even smaller! I love the size and stance of the old Nissan Hardbodys
As happy as I am that midsize trucks are taking off again, I would still love a truly SMALL truck option like what used to be so popular in the 80s/90s. Especially without four real doors.

Ethan, A few weeks back I rounded a corner and saw what I believed to be a Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon. After a double check I realized it was a 10 year old Sierra. Mid-Size trucks are so big and heavy these days yet their undersized beds are a joke. Give me a T100 or Dakota sized pickup with an 8 foot bed any day. A single-cab Hilux with a 2TR-FE engine and 5 speed manual is closest thing in the world today to the truly compact pickups we used to have. Don't get me started on unibody 'pickups ' with 4 foot beds. 🤨
It's as big as a 20 year old full-sized truck, so I hope it can tow. I'll still stick to my Toyotas.
In 2009 i got the new V8 4x4 Z71 Colorado. Disco Gray Piant. Had the 5.3 V8. Stock did 15.0 1/4 mile. I loved that truck.
Great review! Thanks. I've had a 2024 Z71 for about a month. Custom ordered it in Dec. I live in southern Utah where there are more dirt roads than paved. So it will definitely be getting dirty. Glad you liked the towing capabilities. We'll be adding a camp trailer soon. So far the truck has been great. And I'm beating the EPA rating. I'm seeing 23 city and 25 highway.
Your Colorado montages had me rolling...
NSA Surveillance Team 😂
I appreciated the long bed in the prior generation and am immensely frustrated GM dropped it with the new version. Love the camera work to highlight the change in the paint with varying lighting conditions as well as the thorough towing review + useful feedback on the backup cameras!
it seems like chevy really wanted to make a more truck-thing oriented mid-size, but if your paying that much you could just get the silverado for less with similar capabilities, it seems like they wanted something to be best at compared to the competition. The paint is pretty though
Love the Nitro Yellow paint! The Colorado/Canyon come in some great colors
Good review! Thanks!

Thanks for watching!
love my 2017 Z71 Colorado Duramax Diesel! My MPG high score is 44! It's a shame that Chevy didn't keep the plant that produced the Babymax. With my emissions compliant ECU/TCU tunes, after market CAI and proper maintenance, my Z71 runs amazingly. Soon to be a rare midsize truck to find if not already. 🌭
Re: The headlights being on the touchscreen only... I thought this was dumb at first as well. That I realized in my current car I almost never touch the switch because I have auto headlights.

Yeah if you leave them on all the time it’s not really a big deal. There are a few rare instances where you need to turn them off and a screen for this isn’t that bad

Plus the brights are still on the blinker lever.
Sick video Ethan! Do a piece on the Dodge Grand Caravan!
Love the color, not electric, over-priced but happy dog, so I'm in
Successfully towed something while the truck bed was empty. Yeah, will stick to a Ford Estate - better at the carry/towing combo and moves more things!
4:34 dat hotspot name tho
Wait a minute why did it say NSA surveillance team on the infotainment screen???

That’s my phone 😆
Nope Nope Nope !! Short bed, 4 cyl turbo, cr4p gas mileage. At $ half price it's still too expensive.

You probably drive a 1992 silverado
Chevy just feels like they're really shamelessly ripping off the tacoma to just sell units. the "can't beat them, join them" adage, can't blame them because even in the prior generation having a diesel engine option couldn't even dethrone the Tacoma 🤷🏻
europeans are like "midsize??"
