    How do you find the short kayak and how tall are you? Curious if the tarpon 100 would be stable enough for the sound

  • @dfjmadventures
    @dfjmadventures11 күн бұрын

    @nathanaeln Hey mate, I fit comfortably in the Tarpon and I'm 6'3" and 100+ kg. It's not as wide or stable as my other kayaks so I wouldn't take it out too far or on windy/swelly days without outriggers. It's quite speedy and awesome for river fishing, but I really only take it out on the ocean if conditions are good and I'm staying shallow (squidding) - I have my Hobie for the other stuff. Hope this helps.

  • @dfjmadventures

    @nathanaeln Anything over 10 knots I don't take the Tarpon. Like I said, I take the Hobie 9 times out of 10 if I'm fishing in the ocean. I use the Tarpon in the river 👍

    I'm willing to give it a try. At my wit's end with the swan. I see pictures of people catching things in the Swan but I refuse to believe there are actually fish here. I can't use soft plastics because blowfish shred them instantly. I can't use bait because blowfish....I use hardbody lures and get nothing. It's exasperating.

  • @dfjmadventures
    @dfjmadventuresАй бұрын

    Totally understand mate - it can be frustrating at times, especially when you can't go out during ideal hours when blowies are inactive. I have more than my fair share of donut sessions too. There are certainly less (none in some areas) up the Canning, but it can be difficult. Prawn baits should entice more than a few though. Good luck!

    Use small mussels if you can get them. Slide the hook in through the gap in the shell (good vid on here,how to). Bream,pinkies etc will smash straight through the shell while the blowies can't.

    Awesome video mate! I was thinking that would be a great spot to have a poke around on the yak when I was down there recently! Do you think the weir helps with a slower tide flow than on the swan?

  • @dfjmadventures
    @dfjmadventuresАй бұрын

    Cheers mate! Definitely worth a paddle and a fish. I'll be heading back and really giving it a crack when I get time in a few weeks. I do think the weir affects the tide a fair bit, but even so, the tide changed while I was on the water and the flow looked very slow, even on the run-out. Interesting part of the world that I look forward to exploring more 👍

    hey mate I've recently been to point walter twice for flatties but had no success at catching any even after i spent hours each session working the flats. Some people told me that winters not the time for it but I'd still like to give it a go. Do you have any tips as what i could try to increase my chances at this time of the year?

  • @dfjmadventures
    @dfjmadventuresАй бұрын

    Hey mate, Flathead are always around, but harder to catch in winter. The cold water forces them deeper and I've found while I can still get the odd one, I have to work a whole lot harder than I would in summer (I prefer to target other species in winter anyway). I'd say try to fish in relatively narrower parts of the river near steeper drop-offs to get your casts deeper amongst them. Beyond that, it's the usual stuff - stay mobile, fan your casts and hope for the best! Thanks for watching and let me know how you get on!
