Gary Hiebner - Heavy Tones
Gary Hiebner - Heavy Tones
I'm a guitarist and music producer from South Africa, and on this channel I like to focus on heavy, low tuned guitars, their setup & use in music productions
I also sometimes do some music guitar covers.

Sour is an absolutely amazing song, first time I heard it, I listened to it a bunch more times
You managed to get me to exactly the same sound! Thank you very much! I'm using Ampero 2 Stomp (V: 2.0.0). Signal chain: IN -> DRV(Black Tail) -> AMP(Rector Dual M) -> Split Signals to 2 CAB (Tang 4x12 C) + (UK Vintage 4x12)
Wonderful summary and demo! Maybe would you cover Black Light Burns sometime as well? Also legacy by Wes, amazing work there, too. I am terrible to not mention Nick Annis as guitarist in that band, probably a great cooperative work of the two.
Thank you. Yeah Wes is a machine. So many unique guitar ideas he comes up with.
did you run it through a 9v or 12v?
9V
Hey bro, greetings from Durban, can you do a comparison video between the dod death metal and the grindstein and get some awesome death metal tones?
I tuned my guitar to drop G, 6 string 25.5 inch scale, 12-62 mammoth slinkys, all strings are intonated perfectly, even the low 62, for some reason the thin 12 gauge string isnt, always slightly flat at the 12th fret, if anything i thought thought the low 62 gauge would have intonation issues
Wes is a beast! Only way to play like him is to be him.
Harsh highend and clickely drums like all modern shite.
he said pornshop and bass sex.
Doing the same with a 30 scale guitar. Tuned the guitar to E1 Standard, then lowered E1 to A0. Sounds cool, but I honestly do not know what to do with it. I feel like a string is missing 😅
Yeah I did a similar thing with my Jazzmaster Baritone 30 inch. Did the Octave tuning with B0. Actually wrote a whole song with it. So keep messing around. Some ideas will come out of it.
What a lot people don’t realize is that this type of tone is complete trash at band volume levels. Sounds cool in a low bedroom/studio volume mix. Eardrum shredding otherwise.
Hey, Thanks for the video. But actually I need something similar in terms of quality with Helix Native Pitchshifter for MacOS. Any suggestions?
I've found it hard to beat Helix PolyCapo. Closest thing so far has been the pitch effect on the Mixwave Mike Stringer Amp Sim. Or you could look at Kuassa's Efektor Pitch Shifter.
@@GaryHiebner Thank you, I'll try them out. Now I tested Amplitude and it is way weaker than Helix which I tested them on Windows.
See, its informative but confusing. Im trying to go down to DDD# on my 27" 7 string and apparently i need a .105? String gauges are confusing haha.
Yeah you'll need a super thick gauge on a 27inch if you wanna go down to Double Drop D#. Or you could use a lighter gauge and pick a bit softer
Drop f such a saw
That sound is sick
mine stl tones dont work
Your channel is great
So , it's okay to tune my E A D G to B E A D ? Nice
Yeah exactly. Perfectly fine with the right string gauges.
Which sounds more low? More bass? Bass VI or Baritone? Great video mate! Thanks! 🙂 👍🏻
can you tune the .145 gauge string back up to E1 when you need or is it too much tension ???
Unfortunately not. Definitely will be too much tension
Would a set of ernie ball 11-54's on a 25.5" scale going from 10-46's be alright for drop c? Let me know thank you.
Yeah that sounds like a perfect set. Same set I would use for Drop C.
@@GaryHiebner Alright, thank you for the reply. If you don't mind I had another question. Could I get away with 11-54's without modification to the nut?
Yeah you should be fine. From about 62 you might need to adjust the nut slots
@@GaryHiebner Ok thank you so much for help!
What jazzmaster is that? I love the colour
Squier Jazzmaster Baritone. It's been discontinued. But is an amazing 30-inch baritone
thank for your tips, i have one doubt, my guitar is pattern tune E, i could make more heavy with this tune?
Great video! What gauge would you recommend for drop C tuning on six string guitar? i have a Gibson SG . Thanks
Standard scale length? A 11-52 set should work well for Drop C on a 25.5 scale length. But also check my video on how to use a String Tension calculator to help you decide on the perfect string gauges. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqt8xa6BnsuZptI.html
@@GaryHiebner thank you so much
This is the video I’ve been searching for!
Stupid question: can I use polycapo as a "standalone" plugin? or I need an helix or something similar?
PolyCapo runs on Helix. So you will need Helix Native. You can run this as a srandalon application.
PolyCapo is also in all the Helix Hardware. So Native is the software version of Helix.
@@GaryHiebner thank you! I will try it out 😬 I saw they have 15 days free
Dude tech is how to tune down on bass vi like 2/3 different drop running’s would be awesome
I like them a lot
Love my SRC6, bottom 4 strings are drop G(ish), 5th string is a 5th above the fourth string, 6th string is a 7th above the 5th string. When I saw they made a multiscale I felt like they made it just for me. Now I just have to get one.
That 's an interesting tuning. Yeah that SRC6MS looks awesome.
@@GaryHiebner pretty sure I explained it upside down. Whoever said the "1st" string should be the highest one did not play bass.
Will 13-68 mh1000 with evertune work for drop g and f?
13-68 gauge
Yeah definitely. That has a 27". With an Evertune you should be fine to go down to F1
F standard is amazing for this
You can’t properly intonate on a 25.5 scale for a tuning that low. Just be aware
You an get it close with some thicker gauges. And depending on how far back you can push the saddle. Might need to remove the spring to get an extra mm or so
How to tone ? Is the same guitar tone? 1E-2B-3G-4D-5A-6E 🤔💭???
what about the nut slots? Do you have to cut those to fit larger gauge strings?
Yeah you might need to file the nut thicker.
very helpfull
Sounds AMAZING through a recording mix! My question is how to implement this sort of sound on stage live?
Can add an octave effect pedal into your pedalboard for live.
@@GaryHiebner adding an octave effect on a low tuned guitar wouldn't be just straight mud? I've only gotten away with drop A with it being audible.
2 seconds into the video I knew you were from South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥 much love from Kzn
Haha! Yeah I used to be from KZN.
@@GaryHiebner I’m from amanzimtoti
Toti! Nice. Used to spend many weekends in Toti back in the day.
Watching for the first time today, and I used the Pitchproof plugin (also for the first time) yesterday. It's not the best but I don't think it's the worst and it's free which is great for my bank balance! What I will say is I noticed artifacts early on and I managed to clean it up by playing around with the settings in the bottom of the GUI. Rather bizarrely, I think I noticed less artifacts when I switched off "Transient Fix". No idea why. Also I noticed that once your guitar gets a certain amount out of tune, Pitchproof really struggles. But I'm happy with it for a free plugin, and I see no reason right this second to pay for anything better!
Deftones tones ❤
Anyone know where to find a btb804ms?
You mean the BTB805MS? There is only a 5 string and 6string version
Any modification on your BassVI? It sounds amazing! What Strings you use?
No modifications. Using the D'Addario 24-84 Bass VI set.
Are these Guitar good for me to start off? It would be my 1st bassvi
Great 1st Bass VI to get. Well priced. And stock pickups sound good.
Would any single coil pick up work on the bridge pick up ???
What the best string gage or string pack for this
I am impressed, again! May you continue to grow
Thanks Bryan!
taking the advice of the clown from corn? lmfao not only do they have terrible tone they change amps every other day, they sued to pedal the warp 7 for fucks sake lmfao
The pitch effect in Line 6's POD HD PRO X is top notch as well, I use it all the time!
I wonder if this is pretty similiar to the Helix PolyCapo module?
Once you get to F it’s basically up tuning, I think my favourite is Drop G#
