Hi everyone.....I really enjoy the outdoors and spend most of my time exploring the Southern Ontario area looking for new and interesting places. This channel is basically to point out these locations to other outdoor enthusiasts looking for the same. I do many day trips as well as camping trips....so I thought I would share some of these great locations so others can get out there and check them out! I will always try to post the location for parking or the GPS cords and show the route map etc. So I hope you enjoy the videos and thanks for watching!!!
Please do not try any of the activities presented in any of my videos unless you have the proper equipment and experience.
Always check the weather forecast before heading out especially when on the water. Conditions can change within minutes!

As a boater, fisherman and geography enthusiast, I was fascinated about finding this canal system in a town that I grew up visiting before i got into fishing
This was great! I live in Newmarket and walk over the locks all the time but never really knew the history. Thank you for this 👏
Thanks man! Glad you liked it. I found it so interesting i had to make the video!
Wow. Now I know why these places were built.
I had heard that originally the canal was planned to connect right to Toronto but the shortage of water only got worse as you approached the Oak Ridges Moraine. Plans were made to install stream powered water pumps but as is still common today an election changed everything. Also Mulock is pronounced Mew Lock.
@@Crewsy well, I knew they were trying to go further with the canal and divert water from other sources, etc…. I just stuck to the basics because I didn’t want the video to be too long. a few people let me know that I pronounced Mulock wrong…. But nobody told me how to actually pronounce it…thanks! 👍
Thank you for the video about the town I live in for 17 years and I think I’ll live forever. ❤
More!
Great video man! I was born at Newmarket hospital in 1970" I grew up in Ballantrae, and went to high school at Huron Heights" Brought back a bunch of memories! New sub!🤙👊
@@rfiskillingussoftly6568 hey I’m glad you liked it….and thanks for watching my channel!
Neat
A few questions: Is there cell service out there? How long was the paddle to the islands? Thanks!
If it wasn't for "Mulock's Madness" my friends and I wouldn't have had a drinking spot back in the 80's, a lot of memories, firsts and lasts, I drink a toast to the Huron Height's crew! thanks for the memories!
That was a very long distance to travel Toronto to sell goods.
Yeah, and no hwy 400 either!… life was tough back then!
Lived here my whole life. Thanks for filming! Been on that trail a hundred times. Near lock #2 there used to be a lookout tower made of wood but they took it down years ago.
This is cool. Thanks for sharing this.
I was born in Newmarket 1970, is this at Eagle and Main?
Yup! In that area. First time I had ever been to Newmarket! Nice place. Thanks for watching the video!
Very cool video. Thanks for posting.
Can really hear that accent eh
LOL!👍 thanks for watching my video eh!
@@Kurt_Outdoors Lol. Thanks for posting. Grew up fishing there
I love canals. Thanks for doing this. Well done. :)
I drive over lock 1 every day on my way home from work!
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video very educational and interesting
You have to remember that when these canals were built we didn't have 18 wheeler trucks and trains only went to some places. You can put literally tons of freight on a barge and you can push it with a stick.
Hi, what from the 65 till 78, and the reservoir was still going strong. Had no idea about any of this.
Always look forward to your videos!!
It's been awhile thanks for sharing ...
Great video, enjoyed watching. Mid 60's, lived my whole life in Ontario and knew nothing about this, thank you. 👍
Thanks for sharing Kurt!
….and thanks a lot for watching it!
All your day trips would make a handy book.
Fun kayaking adventure with great information... Thanks for the paddle ✌️
Nice video. I know this trail well I ride it on a regular basis. I’m a local resident.
Any fishing?
I did see a few people fishing there....
Awesome
Thanks for the video!
Neat!
Thank you for making this video!
It's too bad they couldn't make it work. It would be a great way for pleasure boats to to Lake Ontario if they finished it. Sort of like the Locke around Merrickville.
Awesome video and I learned a few things, thanks. Never knew of how Newmarket came be, very interesting history of the trek down then walk 45 km. You’re right about the waste of money on the locks but they do make for a good video.😉
Great video! Who knew? Very interesting and thank you!
Cool video. Thanks. You would think some of it could be used for recreational boating/tourism.
That’s what I was thinking when I was checking it out….. it’s already there so it should be used for something. Thanks for watching my video!
very cool video ,i never lived in Newmarket but i as i grew up in Barrie but visited Newmarket many many time growing up and i never know that there was a lock system that was never completed. thanks for posting this.
I wonder how the fishing is there? Thanks for sharing
Very interesting thanks!
The Politicians were corrupt back then, like they all are now. Go Figure.
Interesting. I’ve lived in the Newmarket area for 10+ years and didn’t have clue. I’ll have to look for those landmarks.
Fascinating and sad. I've always admired the canal system in the UK and wished for something closer to home.
Particularly fascinating for those who might have visited or traveled the Welland, Trent, and Rideau canals. I had no idea this project was ever attempted, even so far from practical as it was.
Thanks for the great video,we would walk that trail many times but didnt know what the poured concert was all about,,THANKS.
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching it!!
Very interesting video! Love the history of our land!
This is a great place ! I've known about it for yrs !!!
Great video . Very informative and I’m going to make the trip to visit this place
Thanks I hope you find it as interesting as I did! And thanks for watching my video!

This system in Newmarket failed because of total ignorance. All that was needed was a system of steam operated pumps. These pumps would have filled reservoirs used to take water up hill. Anybody that thinks this won't work should turn their attention to the 2700 miles of canals built in Great Britain. They took water 600 feet above sea level up into the Penines using steam pumps and reservoirs to fill and operate locks to take Narrowboats pulled by horses to transport goods. This was done starting in the 1700's. One tunnel that was built is three and a half miles long through solid rock. In this country (Ontario) old Mullock was laughed out of Parliament because he was told water can't run uphill. Little did they know. Modern Narrowboats powered by diesel or solar still use the canals in Great Britain which can be found on You Tube.
Yes, they were thinking of pumps at one point, but they just ran out of money. They were over budget and the projected revenues would not cover the cost. They would not have had enough customers passing through the locks. The whole thing is pretty interesting…. Thanks for watching the video.!
@@Kurt_Outdoors I know that Mullock went to Ottawa to see about asking for money and the Conservative government laughed at him. Their answer was you can't make water run up hill. I've talked to lots of people in and around Newmarket over the years and many had the idea it still it could have been finished using Diesel pumps although steam is quieter. To bad because the project is so close to being completed.
Thanks for the trip, I've been super intrigued about this for years. I've taken my kids for trips on parts of this in a paddleboat, not easy to get in and out and around many spots, it should be opened up for paddling sports.
