Welcome! I'm Jason, an outdoor/ overland gear dork who really loves the industry. I've been camping since I was a kid and while I'm mostly in the Overlanding world now I was raised popup camper-ing and throughout college I was able to still enjoy my passion while I was on a tight budget. As I get older I enjoy a bit more of the nicer things while I'm out in the back country but I still find use for the budget gear that has withstood the test of time. You'll see a mix of both here.
I started KZread to share some of my years of knowledge about camping with everyone. I love learning new things in the comments section from people with great advice. New ideas are ALWAYS welcome! I'm here to share gear as well as taking you guys along for the ride when I go on adventures.
Born in the Appalachian mountains and moved out to Rockies a few years ago. I've learned that while it is somewhat different terrain, views in different locations people go out to the back country for the same reasons.

After 4 failed attempts to fill a 5lb. tank at local retailers, I gave up and got a 20lb. Ignik has a carry bag for this size now, and it's great.
R u fckn serious?! With those two custom toyotas, combined around 100k, you are talking about budget overlanding. You should be a politician.
Bro what? Lmao. What does my truck have to do with budget camping? In your mind Ive had money all my life, never was a broke collage student who still camped weekly, I just skipped my 20s all together and instantly landed a good job out of college, had no debt to pay off?? Just because I have it now I don’t know what I’m talking about? With that kind of logic, maybe YOU should be a politician! Smh
And yeah a 10 year old 4Runner with used parts is 100k or maybe I have friends who own trucks as well and we hang out? Why would I own two 4Runners?
Are you able to sit up when you’re on the bed or would you hit your head ?
On the bed, no unfortunately. If I got the higher height topper I could. The wheel wells make it so that anything you build has to be a bit too tall. That being said you can sit in the middle section and fully sit up.
The ads are so annoying
What ads? The ones KZread placed?
@@OXFOOT the literal 6, 20 second impossibly to skip ads
@@sbe0001 weird, I don’t put those ads there, KZread does. I don’t really have much control over the duration or what type of ads.
Thanks for posting the install! Thinking about doing this for my train horn compressor but wasn't sure which bracket would be best. This is one I've been considering and I think you've sold me.
Great review. Definitely the price range I'm looking in. Your channel is by far one of the most helpful I've found. Really appreciate your content. Thanks from a fellow Coloradan
Hi. What is the name roof rack system? Thanks
The one I have on my 4Runner is called Outgear Solutions. It’s just two cross bars.
nice vid, just got this off of walmart
Jetboil the biggest rip off stove company in existence
What’s your gripe? Any better suggestions? I’m testing out some camp chef stuff now to see what I like better between their stuff, jet boil and Coleman.
Have a link for the running with tacos engine mount for the garmin light switch. Couldn’t find it on their website.
Can you tell me the name of the traction board's brand? Your links dont work anymore. Thanks
I believe it’s bunker traction boards and it’s from vicoffroad US.
eh, perimeter lighting will prevent all the wildlife like owls etc. We don’t have to bring the city with us do we?
How do you cook, walk around, brush your teeth, etc without light?
Wait what tf, budget & cabelas don’t go together.
I love the way it looks and how it's built but what's the difference between this and an old fashion canopy?? When theyre bagged they're almost the same size? $400 for a tarp and a pole?
Please don't buy the Energizer power station. The number one reason why they say at the warehouse for 2 solid years was the price. You can do so much better with Ecoflow, Bluetti, Segway, Anker, and Jackery. This uses an outdated NMC battery, a very noisy fan, slow solar charging, and no Bluetooth. They finally lowered the price from 1400 to 499.00 during the Memorial day weekend. They finally sold out. Pure Junk!
So repetitive. Same info repeated over n over. Wasteful of time.
Very cool bro thanks!
I see you are exposing the unit to full weather/rain/snow. Although external parts are aluminum, I am unable to find any documentation that indicates this unit is weatherproof. Do you know if somewhere the manufacturer indicates it is safe to use in weather? I am thinking that if it does not say that it is weatherproof it is probably not and should be protected/shielded from damp weather conditions. What do you think? Thanks and Cheers!
State parks in Ohio offer off season rates, and while the water may be turned off, the electric sites are still operating electric. This means with an extension cord rated for whatever wattage heater you are running, you will be able to run an electric heater, and have the campground to yourself more or less
This seems like it took forever to set up. How do you feel this stacks up against other models (HeyTrip) or the Softtopper?
It takes a while longer but it will likely last longer than the HeyTrip. Hard to say since I’ve never tested it but since the one I tested is canvas it needs stronger support so it needs more stuff to set up. The HeyTrip will be easier and if you only go a few times with it, will probably be fine.
The soft topper being permanently attached to the truck is obviously going to be the easiest to use. I like them but they aren’t cheap. Considered that before just getting my regular fiberglass topper but ultimately the hard topper worked better for me.
Great clip, nice truck. Texas 5th gen ORP, KO3.
This easily made up my mind as far as which to buy. I can go thru 6 napas before I reach the ARBs price. If I go thru 6 of them, it’s my fault and I’ll report back here 😂
Pathetic. Guy walking through Harbor Freight just picking stuff off thr rack...."I don't know, never used this, probably ok" or "yeah, picked up one but it's just my back up so, yeah" why make this? Why waste both of our time.
In the next video I’ll spend $5k on parts just to make you happy!
This is a video showing you all the parts you can find at regular stores compared to going to an offroad shop. I’m not recommending any of this or saying not to buy it. Just pointing out that there are options out there even if you don’t live near offroad or camping shops.
Hey there, what are you using for power supply?
It depends but typically I’ll use either an ecoflow or bluetti battery bank. Typically around 400 or more watts just to play it safe but it could be run overnight on lower wattages.
@@OXFOOT are you using the cigarette lighter 12v 10A?
@@kadedelacy6629 mine does not allow for use of that outlet when the car is off as far as I know. I only use a power bank to run this heater. When driving to the next camp site I will charge my power bank with that 12v outlet.
@@OXFOOT gotcha I see what you're saying. But most diesel heater video setups show the user using the 12 volt DC cigarette lighter on the power bank. Which Port are you plugging into on your power bank if you don't mind me asking?
@@kadedelacy6629 oh sorry I misunderstood the last message. Yes I use the 12v port. I soldered a 12v plug onto the end of the wire it comes with. 12v seems to be the best so far.
What brand ditch light brackets are you using?
I used the Cali-raised brackets I believe. It’s what ever R4T had (if you buy from them use code “oxfoot”, you get 10% off and I take no commission). They worked awesome and were low profile.
I'm actually leaning toward the recons. Another channel I follow ran a set on a Bronco Raptor that they wheeled around Utah and even took up to the Arctic. They seemed to have excellent results with them. Also, nice Tundra! Clearly I have a lot of catching up to do haha.
I love the Recon, I’m like 50/50 on whether I want to run that tire next on this build. I’m sure you’ll love it!
@@OXFOOT seems like either way you can't go wrong. I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned street miles vs off-road miles. I spend the vast majority of my time on road.
Awe the widdle wadder.
Yeah it was the only way into my GFC when I had one. I could take or leave them
Will that charge from the 100watt inverter in the tundra ?
Do you have an update on clean-up efforts?
I’m currently aiming for August as the last month I’ve had a case of vertigo that has made it super difficult to really do anything. I’ll update once I can get something in the books.
No skylight and soft bottom is a no for me..
I’ve actually come to like the soft bottom, I have it in my new FSR also. A skylight would be nice but the pole runs right through that center section on this type of tent.
Question❗️ how long does a 2000 power station like that keep your fridge running?
That’s sort of a loaded question because it depends on so many factors; 1. What fridge is it? So many different brands have different run times; 2. What size fridge and compressor; 3. How often are you going in and out of the fridge; 4. What temps are you running it at; 5. Whats the outside or ambient temp of the space the fridge is in? My new iceco APL35 ran about 24 hours outside on a 250 watt hour power bank is that helps.
To estimate how long a 2000Wh power station can keep a fridge running, you need to know the power consumption of the fridge. Most modern fridges typically consume between 100 and 800 watts per hour, depending on their size, efficiency, and how often the compressor runs. For a basic calculation, let's assume an average power consumption: Average Power Consumption: 150 watts (typical for a mid-sized, energy-efficient fridge). Power Station Capacity: 2000 watt-hours (Wh). To find out how long the power station will last: Runtime (hours) = Power Station Capacity (Wh) / Fridge Power Consumption (W) Runtime (hours) =2000Wh / 150W ≈ 13.3hours So, a 2000Wh power station can keep a fridge with an average power consumption of 150 watts running for approximately 13.3 hours. Note: The actual runtime can vary depending on factors such as the fridge's actual power consumption (which can fluctuate), the efficiency of the power station, and any additional devices being powered by the station.
Love all your videos. While I have an iKamper 2.0 already, I just enjoy having your videos playing in the background while I work. However, what do you do with all the tents you’ve reviewed? Sell them? Or are these sponsored where you send them back?
So I will have more on that very soon, but let’s just say I have a storage unit full of them and some in my back yard. I’ve sold a few of them and some tents I just got to test and return but …There’s something huge coming with all my gear I’ve built up very soon. I can explain it privately on IG but right now I can’t talk publicly until the wheels get moving on the process.
Thanks for the review on this, was impressed it was able to work with the heater. I wonder how long it would last with a small chest fridge for the car? Did you get solar panels to charge this powerstation or relying on ac power? This would be an awesome unit even for power outages at home. Thanks for the review. 👍
Depends on the fridge but for example my ICECO (video drops the 15th) I got 24hrs off of a 250watt hour battery in 94 degree day so in theory that specific iceco could get around 40+ hours off of it and that’s if you didn’t plug the fridge into the car while traveling and plug it to the power bank when stopped.

Good review. I decided to shell out the extra money for a GoFSR odyssey xl bc I’m tall and camp with kids but topoak was on my shortlist
Yeah I think they are both great options but I recently just got the same tent not in XL. I think the topoak hits a different segment of the market though as the price difference of this one and the FSR is a bit different.
Ah, a video from better days
