    Less water and a lid for the veggie pot would have made that part go faster and easier. I have a cast iron skillet just like that one that I use all the time to sear steaks and burgs. I saw your open topper glass door leaning over your stove at the beginning and thought, Uh oh, he's going to get a whole crapload of condensation. If there is room above the stove/ pots try closing the upper hatch if that puts the stove vapors outside the camper. Maybe that will help, otherwise a great meal! Love my 12v electric blanket, too.

    I liked the video and have been thinking about making steak like you did on my next camping trip. The question is, was that Wagyu steak taste any different than another regular good steak?

  • @OXFOOT

    @OXFOOT

    5 ай бұрын

    The steak tasted about the same. Maybe a little better but that could be placebo. I also have since learned that there’s a huge difference between American wagyu and Japanese. American Wagyu is apparently not as desirable. So a real Japanese Wagyu would probably have a much different flavor.

  • @buscampers
    @buscampers5 ай бұрын

    That steak looked delicious. Nice set up. I used a heated blanket during my last snow camping video and really liked it. What made you go with a cap vs something like a pop up bed camper?

  • @OXFOOT

    @OXFOOT

    5 ай бұрын

    The Cap vs Camper thing really came down to 2 things, price and the ability to stealth camp if necessary. Price was the biggest factor though. 3-4k for a topper vs 7k+ for a camper.

    Nice setup! I'm currently converting from RTT to ground tent. Curious what made you switch? For the wagyu, its more or less a marketing term now in the US. Like "free range" on eggs. I might be a little better but its not the wagyu that Japan is famous for. The marbling on real wagyu is ridiculous.

  • @OXFOOT

    Hey, new viewer, I’m curious what made you upgrade to a tundra from the 4Runner. In your mind, what are the pros and cons of a truck vs suv?

  • @OXFOOT

    @OXFOOT

    5 ай бұрын

    The 4Runner didn’t tow enough for what I have coming up. I like 4Runners but they are just about the opposite of what I need. I needed more storage, towing capacity and seating isn’t important to me. Tacoma didn’t really make sense either and that’s how I ended up with the tundra. The cons of a truck are for sure size, I have a harder time getting into parking spots. Also I wouldn’t be as capable if I was a hardcore wheeler, but I’ve never really been interested in that.

    On the tundra no, when I did my 4Runner it needed it. The 5.7 liter with 35s does about what stock is like. Still need to get a bumper and clear out space in the front though; my tires rub on sharp turns.

    It wasn’t too cold, I think the lowest it got was like 8 degrees that night and while that would be super cold at the beginning of winter I’ve gotten used to it now with just the heated blanket.
