Classic Boxing Matches

Follow this channels Twitter @classicboxing

Some of my videos may have already been seen however I also include a detailed description of each fight and the important facts or information surrounding the fighters to try and build a better appreciation and understanding of the historical impact some of the these fights played in the world of boxing or a particular fighters career.

I became fascinated with boxing since watching my first fight in my Father's garage back in 2003, David Tua vs Hasim Rahman II. Since then I was hooked and started buying DVD's and VHS tapes of classic boxing matches while collecting biographies from all the great fighters. I've had the privilege of being ringside to watch some of New Zealand's most popular boxers, Shane Cameron, David Tua, Monte Betham, Robert Berridge, Sonny Bill Williams and Joseph Parker.

Fighting Harada got robbed to become a triple crown division world champion. He would have been the first Japanese and Oriental Far East Asian boxer to win a third world championship in 3 different weight classes.

Oh, no! Fighting Harada won outright this fight, but Johnny Famechon did very well and was game.

Cooper was catching Ali, a lot. Both hands. His left was too quick for Ali's reaction. Ali was short with his left leads also a lot. because he was wary of that left hook. I had Cooper ahead on points when it was stopped. Pity he cut so easily. He could have won this.

Cooper really has no defense against Ali's left jab, which cut him to pieces

If only Henry's hammer had landed 2 seconds into the round and not 2 seconds from the bell, the whole history of heavyweight boxing may have changed.

Why is this man twisting English Language? Cooper will fall in round 5, and the referee stoped the fight in round 5. Where is the difference here? Fall here must be necessarily "to fall down" or be knocked out, but that the fight will be over in round 5 -. That's why such fights are still called "Knock Outs". A boxer may fall down twice and still win the fight. So stop twisting this language

Clay's lack of sportsmanship made me dislike him intensely for most of his career. The cut over Cooper's eye saved Clay from defeat in this fight. I really believe that. He never once hurt Cooper in the 5 rounds save for the cut. I think Cooper was gaining his measure and the knockdown in the 4th was no fluke. It wouldn't have been the last either. SI naming him sportsman of the century was a ridiculous travesty. It's as if Babe Ruth never lived.

Cooper pulled some crooked holding crap because he knew Ali would be impossible for him to beat. Half of Coopers hits were while pinning Alis arm under Coopers arm pit. Ali was definitely the better boxer and cooper knew he couldn't beat him toe to toe.

It's incredible how most of the yanks try to undervalue joe. Of all their champions, who they say wers 'shot' and at the end of their careers, they haven't the intelligence or honesty to realise that joe was also at the end of his. Whatever might have happened if they'd have met earlier in their careers, Joe would ALWAYS have burned them out by thd 12th rounds. Even his worst critics would recognise that he had the best engine. Ever. Hopkins went on to win another title AFTER Joe screwed him, but they conveniently forget that. Bless them.

Tyson's loss was foreshadowed by earlier fights. He struggled not with big STRONG punchers (who were the majority of his opponents and who were slower than Tyson) but with big FAST punchers such as Greg "Quick" Tillis and Tony Tucker, who often beat Tyson to the punch. Tyson was made to order for Douglas, who was a faster and straighter puncher than the other two. Based on this pattern, I think Ali had the perfect style to beat Tyson. And of course Ali could take a punch better than all of them.

He came out at round 5 gun-blazing and there was no more playing, trying smoke up that boy. Ali could beat down anyone if he really wanted to, the worst you could do was mess with his ego like this guy did and he'd turn on that beast mode and beat the hell of that opponent..😂😂😂

Only two commentators recognized immediately that Buster Douglas was posing problems for Tyson that he never faced before, Sugar Ray Leonard and Bob Sheridan. All the others kept making excuses for Tyson. Also, credit must be given to Tyson, who fought hard every minute of every round. Buster was simply the better fighter that night.

I recall Chuck Wepner saying in a interview that every time Sonny hit him he broke something. I think Sonny is underrated as a puncher I believe in the history of the sport he has to be top five. He use to spar with George Foreman I can't begin to imagine how brutal that must have been those to behemoths.
