1988 Heavyweight Gold Medallist and future WBO World Heavyweight Champion, Ray Mercer, makes his pro debut against the slightly more experienced Jesse "The Tank" McGhee (5-2). McGhee was always going to struggle against Mercer, he was coming off back to back losses, he was giving up 6 inches in height being only 5'7" tall and he had far shorter arms. The loss to Mercer would be the first stoppage loss of McGhee's short career. In his next fight he lost a unanimous decision to another future World Heavyweight Champion, Bruce Seldon (which in hindsight was actually an impressive outcome considering Seldon would go on to win 36 of his 40 victories by way of KO!). But McGhee's final fight came in Oct 1989 against former World Heavyweight Champion, James "Bonecrusher" Smith, who stopped McGhee within 2 rounds. McGhee would retire with a 6-5 record.
