I have the vivitar 3900 (potato masher) which I liked, back in the days. I liked the handle as you could easily carry it with your camera. I wish someone made a similar handle mount flash bracket that you could mount a speedlight on it. Something that would keep your flash and camera together but give you the option to detach the flash and lift it up.

@@GB-AK loved those old vivitars. I built something similar to what you mention a few years ago to cover a political conference. A bit heath robinson but it worked quite well. I’m sure profoto make something but it’s probably the price of a ride on lawnmower.

On my R5 I set my DOF button to open the flash menu, I can then easily change the flash settings (like high speed sync) via the screen instead of the small flash menu.

Fascinating video, thanks Roy. I am a hobbyist photographer who shoots mostly birds down by the river or in my back garden. I have a 90D and an R8. I absolutely love them both but I find it easier to get great shots with the R8, the eye detect auto focus is brilliant! I also struggle slightly to get the exposure spot on with the 90D, it’s usually a bit over or a bit under. The 90D has a canon 100-400L usm ii attached permanently where as the R8 now has the RF 200-800. I treat my 90D like a classic car now, I love using it but the R8 out performs it in all areas so has become my daily ‘Driver’.

I have gone through two of these. Crunchy focus that is noisy and jumpy. Just bought the 1.8 STM for use on my 5DM3s, which has nice auto focus. For the money, the Zeiss 50 1.4 planar is the lens for me. Solid lens and great results.

Why is 430 the best ? I have Canon 600 Ext RT mk 2 flash I was told it's top of the line? I also have Canon El 100 Speedlite Flash and I really like it !

Only my opinion. There are lots of other flashes out there and ultimately we each have to find what is right for us and our own individual use. For me the 430 just does the job that I need it for. Small, light, easy. Effective. If what you have works well for you then that’s very cool. I’m sure that 600 packs a bit more of a punch but I have never needed more power than the 430 can deliver. Might pick up an el100 to play with as looks rather cool. Thanks for your comment. All just personal opinion! Many thanks. RR

Buen video.

I have had this lense for a couple of years on my slr and it has been amazing. And for close up portraits on my RP is also amazing. However. Shooting on an RP at 3m distance or more. On single point autofocus due to the model wearing sun glasses. It consistently front focused about a foot in front on every shot. A steep rf to ef learning curve. Next shoot will be manual af with zebra lines, or face af. The ef 50 1.4 has that issue also apparently. Yes the purple fringing is extreme at 1.8 and f2

Interesting view from a professional on how this lens is used and how it performs in a harsh environment. My version was also razor sharp. But in the end the f/2.8 was a little bit too heavy. The f/4.0 version I have now is also razor sharp and a lot lighter. But still, the f/2.8 is a great lens.

I have this lens on my R6 II. I always love this standard zoom. It works amazingly well in daylight/outdoors or good indoor lighting. Love it for street photography - in good daylight. I am thinking of selling it now and get the RF 24-70 2.8 because now I am doing a lot of tournament photography and I don't like how this lens work for that. Not fast enough. I got the RF 70-200mm 2.8 and wow what a difference!! I only had this lens for 6 months, but still having a hard time parting with it as the focal lengths on this is so good. The 2.8 version is too big and expensive. So I am torn, lol. I love this lens...

About to move to RF so will buy a body with this lens on it. The old EF one dropped onto a church floor, I put it back together myself, kinda works. My 70-200 2.8 got hit by a baseball just last week. Carried on working but I think the autofocus might be out a smidge. Need to test. I love that lens, only have the II but it’s a great sports lens. Thanks for this. Interesting to hear your views. I guess it depends on use case. Sometimes one lens that does it all is just the right tool for the job. Given time and space and flexibility then a bunch of primes is without doubt the best way to go. Any issues with the R4 70-200 F4?? I had one for a while but went back to the EF 2.8 version. I wonder how they hold up build quality wise long term?

@@RoyRiley I was blown away by the centre sharpness of the 24mm 1.8 Macro. The 24-105 L just seemed a bit meh for the price. You also get the low light advantage and close focusing capabilities with those primes. Everyone’s different but I don’t mind spending the 20 seconds or so it takes to swap lenses if it means I get a sharper image corner to corner. I have found the 70-200 L to be optically almost perfect and performs better than the 24-105 L in the 70-105 range.
